It's always great to see an OEM expanding their ecosystem, especially an industry leader like Simucube. I just hope that they won't forget how many of us use our sims to drive/race historic cars. A large diameter, wood-rimmed wheel would be excellent for immersion. Even a smaller Moto-Lita style wheel would be great (for 60s and 70s F1/protoypes). Not everything needs a million buttons, LEDs, and paddle shifters. 😁

im really thinking about skipping the mid grade stuff and going straight to high end so i dont buy things twice upgrading. any recommendations? thinking about heusinkveld ultimate pedals also. this stuff should last many years i would hope.

Two things; First: if one is racing in VR, a display panel and back lighting on buttons wouldn't be missed (an overlay in the game that can be seen in VR would be cool. Second, I find it interesting that the majority of KZbinrs that review Sim racing equipment rarely consider oval racers. Since this review, the Tahko does now come in a full round version.

@6:55 I'm glad you mentioned this Will regarding all those little things like the button clicks. You're right a lot of us are not going to even recognize all these little details. Like you said it's more to reassure us we've purchased a premium quality product so we can explain this to our wife's and justify our luxury purchase LOL.

They should have just made it round. The only reason to have a D shaped wheel is to give more room for your legs when you're getting out of the racecar. I don't think that's a huge issue with sims.

@@simucube I think going mid level for a company like simucube would be a bad idea. What differentiates high end companies like simucube, Heusinkveld, Asher etc is that their products are quality and are high end. Bringing out to lesser products to say compete with fanatec, thrustmaster, Logitech etc kind of dilutes their USP and overall reputation just to corner the market.

I've been daily driving the black Tahko for a month and absolutely love it. My only small complaint is the rotary encoders are quite sharp on the sides. I feel like you could cut your finger if you quickly pulled away while gripping it (especially the bigger left one, with the larger channels) ... Not likely to happen unless your wheel went haywire while you're firmly holding the left encoder bare handed. The rim material feels pretty smooth and the ergonomic side grips fit my hands perfectly. Perhaps they had a rougher alcantara on the early revision tested here but mine doesn't feel rough at all. That said, I've had no other alcantara wheels to compare it to.

Alcantara (fake suede) goes bad really quickly if you don't wear gloves due to the oils in your skin

@@layingblacklines It's kinda the same, but I think both can be brushed. I have black suede shoes and the suede grays out over time

Nice review Will. This looks a nice quality piece of kit and as a first attempt of their own brand wheel and I think they have done a fairly decent job. It is out of my price bracket as I see no point for me in my circumstances investing a lot of money in sim racing. However should I be fortunate enough to win the lotto I would treat myself to some top end gear. Keep up the good work and take care.

That said I like that take on Alcantara as the reason why it's popular in sports cars is becuase unlike leather it's less slick but the trade off is not much durability. As far as I under stand it anyway... This makes more sense then adding soft Swade/Alcantra to a touch serface might be nice on a McLaren or Astin Martin dash. But if it's slicker then leather it kinda defeats the particle point in it and not Leather, normal cloth or just plastic.

you do alot reveiws about high end DD wheelbases like fanatec DD, simucube and others. But how about a blind test. Someone sets up the wheelbase and you drive with it without seeing the wheelbase you use. I wonder if you can tell them apart, and what the best wheelbase will be.Also in maybe 2 of 3 different sim race titels.

Hey thanks for the videos. Been following your channel for quite a while. Can you do a vid5on sim racing footwear? May sound silly but endurance races can actually cause quite a bit of foot discomfort. Months ago I was in some several hour long races and figured I would wear my normal, light Nike running shoes. Let me tell you, by the end of hour 2 my heels were absolutely killing me. I see videos of racers wearing anything from Puma to house shoes. Anyway I think it would be a good video. Keep up the good work 👍

I know this is a Simucube wheel, but I did see a custom Fanatic wheel used in Sebastian Loeb’s actual WRC car. So I wonder if Fanatic is going to release a Podium version WRC wheel. Loeb is no slouch and a signature wheel will defiantly sell.

Always was odd they relying on others to provide rims to their customers and it looks great! But should be competing with the likes of the Fanatec poduim nascar package at $300 not the halo swapable products at $1,000... It's just not there at that massive $200-$600 price delta depending on its a lower offering or next to top. Like if you want a race car like expence you can get an Fanatec F1 rim or the nascar one and if you need more butions get the clubsport verson as it's metal I think and that is odd how the mid teir option is metal... I guess their main customer is one looking for a universal GT wheel. Still that price is to high for an entry option in the current market like what will the halo rim be? $4K?

We can be open here: before and in the start of the Simucube 2 lineup, Simucube were just one of the product line in Granite Devides electric motors. Now we have proper focus and possibility to make a whole ecosystem.

Cool wheel but I REALLY don't like that they have wheelbase features unique to their own wheel (the on-the-fly adjustment button). This should be a standard feature implementable by other wheels\user assignable. I really hope this is planned for the future as one of the main reasons to go with them is their perceived open-ness vs fanatec.

Why such a large plate [ Diamond ] with an image of simucube!! better a horn in the middle and their name, Why is the name displayed so much especially from above, you look at advertising instead of a steering wheel, its over the top lol; They'd better replace all those buttons with a touch screen,for a very high resolution 20 Euro in the middle, that costs 20 euros and you can do A LOT more with this
