I have an Alpha 15nm base and fxpro wheel, and I do not have a centering issue. I do, however, absolutely love the gear.
@limpetarch98k8 ай бұрын
Im super tempted to buy the FX Pro since 3 months, but there are 2 things that holds me back even after I made the move to switch to Simagic. 1- The wheel is such in high demands that ordering it becomes tediously long. In Canada, the only distributor that wont scam you is Simracingpros, but due to them being a pretty small distributor, they have as much of a hard time keeping up with the demand than they do updating the availability of the stocks. So if you just order without asking them if they are in stock when in fact they aren't, it will take a long time. The problem is that the FX Pro is such in high demand that it goes out of stock very quickly. 2- I do occasionally see complaints about the QC itself popping in the simagic discord server. Idk if the paddles not working (again, seen this before in the server complaints) are due to software or QC, but I seen problems that are definitively due to QC. Its not like my GT1D Pro wheel where it is definitively built like a tank (the wheelbase even more!), the FX Pro does seem to suffer from its high demand. And as someone who had a lot of problems with Thrustmaster, I cannot afford another mistake like that.

One point that should be made is that the canbus has uses now. Any of the peripherals like pedals, shifters etc... can be plugged into canbus and will report as a single device in game. Also Simagic has a canbus hub that offers 4 ports so all peripherals can be plugged in to be a single device which then paired with a Cortex device the entire ecosystem can be made compatible with consoles.

I use Iracing pretty much exclusively, so take that as you will. Really glad to see Simagic getting love, they have come a long way and seem to only be improving. I went from the G27 to the DD1 to the Alpha Ultimate and I gotta say, even after testing the Simucube Sport for an extended period of time, I just flat out prefer the Alpha Ultimate in all ways other than its emergency stop-switch only turning off USB communication and now power to the wheel. Also the only way to turn off/on the Simagic wheelbases is with the integrated switch in the power cord which is a bit silly. I think at 999USD the Alpha Ultimate is clearly the best bang for your buck high-end wheelbase. I even prefer it flat out against the Simucube Sport but I do understand why someone would like the Simucube offerings over the Simagic Alpha and Alpha Ultimate.

A couple of things I'd like to add for those wondering, I have the Mini with the GT neo wheel and p1000 hydraulic pedals I use them for ACC on PS5 and it works great, you need a sigma converter. If you choose to go down this road I can save you some time. First thing is update the firmware on all the Simagic stuff, secondly load the second to last firmware of the sigma. Not the latest! it is a beta and for some reason it spins the wheel out of your hands and locks hard to the right. The 7° thing isn't an issue anymore, and Simagic also do a much cheaper pedal set now so ye. I love em and highly recommend it.

As a SImagic owner who could have chosen Simucube. I chose Simagic due to the fact I believed the margin like you said is razor thin between FFB between them. They have cheaper accessories and that's some thing to think about with a superior QR system. And when it comes to Moza and Fanatec there is no comparison to me. Moza is targeting the low end really with the Moza R12/9/5 more than anyone else besides Fanatec.Thrustmaster is only an option if you are already in the ecosystem and want to stay there and Logitech is just a cash grab as well as Turtle beach. Not to mention but the Simagic Ecosystem while smaller than Fanatec is far more modern and priced fairly. Also, to close this out and put an end to my rant I chose Simagic because I can use ANY wheel I want and can do it without spending another $200 on a QR system and Fanatec/Simucube/Thrustmaster/Turtle Beach/Logitech you cant

@The_-_Futurist248 ай бұрын
I agree with this for asetek. Looks unrealistic to me for 'real sim look'. Enough for me to discount it being a consideration for me between Fanatec, Simagic, and Moza. I think Moza stuff looks very nice. They have very cheap wheel offerings which do look a little more 'toy' like but that's very fair considering the amazing price point. I think though that their ~500 round wheels look better than simagic options that are like 750-900 (hub plus wheel options). The GTS wheel looks pretty good for my want/needs, but rim too small (300mm) and is not changeable therefore also not suitable. Only major letdown for me on simagic's end is no fully suitable rally wheel. But I'm hoping us rally fans can get the GT Neo treatment.
@The_-_Futurist248 ай бұрын
Of note, moza is frustrating for me and lost some points to simagic in my comparisons to purchase because I do not like all the plastic Dashboard crap they put around their R16, R21 that looks like the 'dash' look on a logitech G series. It also is more 'in the way' for mounting. Plus simagic pedals are soooo much better for all accounts, even for slightly more in price, and their QR being interchangeable with IRL wheels is amazing.

Nice video. As for console support it is worth noting that Simagic has an adaptor for PS5 that allows you to use all their gear on it, shifters, pedals, bases, everything. It's called the Sigma Cortex and it only works with Simagic. It has memory slots for storing game specific settings and all of the same settings you see in the software on PC are in this little device. You can adjust wheel speed, mechanical damper, interpolation, strength, it's all there. And you can adjust that stuff in real time without exiting the game. They keep updating the firmware on it every time they bring out a new wheel or peripheral they add support. Oh and no oscillating in GT7, which is a big issue for most guys trying to get their non PS compatible DD bases working in that game.

Spent months and months researching and comparing, watching videos from all over including the Boosted Media review on the entire ecosystem. I've only had it since mid February and on each of the 2 firmware updates I have had in that time period it seems like it gets better and better. The Simagic motor design was what sealed the deal for me, the rest is in the constantly improving software. I've never driven other direct drive wheels, but I can tell you I am not disappointed and the Simagic gives all the detail I feel through the wheel of real sports tuned cars. I know exactly when I'm one the edge, where the load is on the car, and what texture I'm driving across. I've had an alpha mini for almost exactly a year now and never had an issue with it. The thing I've been most impressed with is how much they've improved the software in the last year. I've also never once thought i need 'more' torque as i only run mine at 50% in most sims. Anything more wears me out quickly. My only regret is the neo wheel wasn't available when i bought into the simagic ecosystem. I love my gtc wheel, but not the $150 more it is than the neo. The main point of the canbus is for games like the forza series, which require 3rd party solutions if your controller isn't seen as 'all in one'. Also makes cabling a bit neater, I guess, though a good quality powered usb hub provides the same functionality for the neater cabling solution.

The car suspension feeling was wrong and nearly absent sometimes. It felt unatural and simply not enjoyable, I always had to modify the settings and I was frustrated everytime. Changed for an Alpha Mini, world of difference. It feels how it should, with a much more detailed and "complete" FFB, it's stronger, I much prefer the software (uglier, but way simpler to understand what you are doing with the settings) and the quality is a step above (even tho my wheel is showing some issues after a year, the stiching has gone loose). For example Simucube = 22bit encoders, Simagic Alpha range = 18bit, Moza R9/R12 = 15bit though not sure about other manufacturers products because it seems to be a closely guarded secret by some. To me anything 18bit and above is considered a high resolution encoder , while 13 - 17 is closer to a medium resolution. I think it would be helpful for this vital info to be mentioned in all wheelbase comparison reviews to help with purchase decisions. Not a criticism here, just a general comment.
@smokeybandit10208 ай бұрын
Factual and relevant. I doubt most will be able to feel a discernible improvement above 18 bit encoders. Moza claims that R16V2 using 18 bit encoders but I've seen teardowns that show 15 bit instead. This is an outright deception if true and signals a far greater integrity issue than just encoders.
@kevinblythe21928 ай бұрын
@@smokeybandit1020 Totally agree. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' comes to mind however manufacturers also have an obligation to be truthful in presenting all relevant data. Doesn't seem to happen in the sim world. I know for instance that the R12 was originally promoted as having 18 bit encoders but that claim was withdrawn when questioned and 15 bit was subsequently admitted. So it does then bring into question its bigger brothers as you describe. I think the 'notchiness' in wheel rotation described in wheelbase reviews may actually reflect the use of lower quality / medium resolution encoders but its never stated that way. It's never spelt out ...
@smokeybandit10208 ай бұрын
@@kevinblythe2192 the notchiness is because it does not use true servo motors in it's lower range. It obfuscates this. It does uses true servos R16 and 21 but misleads others to think it does so for all it's wheelbases. It's primary target customers are easily fooled because they won't know the difference coming from non direct drive wheels. Detractors argue it is a servo not understanding the difference between a servo system and a servo motor.

I have the VRS DD pro, which has 20NM and I realistically (judging by the graph in iRacing) use half of that in regards of holding force and regular driving. I wouldn't really want to have less torque than that though and It's also nice to have the headroom. The motor doesn't even really get warm to the touch, which as we all know is a big problem with the low torque Fanatec and Moza bases. If I wouldn't have gotten my VRS for a really good price, I would have gone for the Alpha Mini. Dan Susuki tested it at around 13Nm I believe, and the temperatures he measured were very moderate. His test wasn't very scientific but it's a good indicator and falls in line with some of the other reviewers who say that the Mini feels like it has more than 10Nm.

24:05 The Can-Bus port on the Alpha wheelbase is definitively useful if you have a Q1 shifter, as it has settings that exclusively work if plugged directly into the wheelbase. One of them allows you to sync the Q1 shifter with your steering wheel's paddles, so that you can upshift/downshift regardless with both at the same time. And yes, the gear display on the Q1 benefits from that setting, so if you upshift with the paddles, the Q1's display would register that input.

I recently bought the alpha mini, Neo rim and P1000 pedals, was hoping to wait for your reviews but they were a bit late been looking to go DD for 6 months or more and other reviews were also positive. I do not have the centring issue, and find the wheel and rim really good feels grate, I like the back lit led's on the rim, the thumb wheels and dials are great plus absolutely rock solid no flex. I like the feedback, a definite step up from the Thrustmaster T300. The pedals umm not as sold on these, they look great and look well built but the pedals are 90deg to the plate and I find I am pressing the throttle in the corners and there is no adjustment for that, I have put a spacer on the accelerator stop to bring it a few degrees off vertical as well as angling the whole pedal mount back, this has worked. Also I have found the brake rubbers to compress, after heavy braking there is play in the pedal it doesn't immediately return to the stop for a couple of seconds. Also occasionally stress noises when coming off a heavy brake (like a metal creaking noise) maybe from the housing to ball joint will try greasing it. The accelerator also has a rubbing sound (sounds like the spring rubbing on the housing) even after greasing the spring. Was going to go Fanatec or Asetek but Fanatec have never had a good rep for customer service and that has only got worse, plus it has to be imported, they dont have a wheel to match the Neo, although their round wheels are more in my price bracket. Asetek, not sure I would get on with the pedals and I really dont like the look of the rim looks really cheap and amateurish for the money. The Simagic was a little more than I wanted to spend but is good value for money compared to the rest.
