I think the newer one would be better overall if they didn't cheap out on the band. Sounds better, color is more accurate, but the band just looks like a cheap sticker or something. Songbird will always be my personal favorite for the easily accessible and high quality OoT replicas.

I have the older one and I do like it, especially the consistent sound through most of the range without having to do any crazy tongue-fu. but the subholes are not easy for me, especially being new to ocarina.

i picked the newer model up as my first ceramic one. i gotta agree on hitting the high F. got to blow a bit harder to get it without the acute bend. but i'm still a beginner (not for long, thanks to you)

I remember getting the original OoT from STL in like 2010 as a gift and it mesmerized me at the time. I'd love to try the new model out!

I've never owned an ocarina but looked up reviews to get a gauge of if stl was a good company to give my money to. I know that wasn't the intent of the video, but it definitely answered all my questions in that regard and I'll be getting one from them soon

Thank you for the comparison, I was curious on the differences each sound would make given the alterations made and can hear the updated version plays some songs better, the song of healing is night and day and the update wins it for me the original has a slight edge on the lost woods though, but having larger hands means I'd be more suited to the original i feel, although learning the song of healing is one of my main goals.

Second one has a good sound for the Zelda songs, which I feel is important. The cramped grip and the cheap looking Triforce do weaken the newer one though.

Just now trying to get back into ocarinas after my brief attempts at it before and ngl if I get into this enough to buy one of these I might be looking at another company just because of that. I used to really want STL's because it looked so good but as good as it may look on its own now this new one just isn't as good as the old in looks and just doesn't really seem like a real ocarina of time imho

Honestly if they just kept the same nice shiny band from before I'd probably not have any problem with it but just that change alone makes it look kinda cheap imho

Not gonna lie, the new one being smaller would almost be a win for me currently. Mostly cause I've been looking around to see if I can find a smaller AC 12 hole for my son to play, without it going into a soprano ocarina lol. My son is 6 though, so I'm not gonna be spending $60 for a ceramic ocarina for him yet

Thank you for the review David! It was really good. I personally don't like ergonomics of old one. Cappello looks too small to be usable. But new one is even worse. There's no space for fingers to rest on high notes. And angle of the cappello is kinda awkward to hold. It may seem not so important but ocarinas with good ergonomics are more convenient to play.

I would prefer the updated one. It’s much less airy. Although the old one is more true to the shape of the ocarina of time. It is more cramped and that could be an issue with practicing which is why I don’t practice on my Hind altos as much. I only play pieces I already know on them. The more space I have the easier I learn I guess.

Awesome review! I just got the light blue Ocarina and am having a lot of fun learning how to play by watching your how to series ^_^ Maintaining the right air pressure for the high notes is kind of a struggle lol especially when transitioning to other notes

I remember getting the original for Christmas many years ago because of your videos I believe too, loved the little thing, I'm an adult with a job now so I might nab the new one, more accurate visually, and i have small hands The original was my first (and only) ocarina so far so I'm not really confident enough in the instrument to give my thoughts, i just know it annoyed my dad when I played it because I struggled to produce a clear tone without being loud

The old model is too airy for an alto C throughout the majority of the range for my taste. I like the airy tone on base G or base F ocarinas, but alto C and above i prefer a clearer tone.

If it was from ebay it might of not been one of these stl ones, for example it could be like the 20$ on Amazon and they look great but I saw a vid on it, worse quality and airy, doesn't hit high notes is the reviews Thats why I am looking into this vid about the stl
