Thanks for the shout out and link Sean. I too find the SB3000 fantastic for music but is not my favorite for home theater. I think it's great that you focus on 2ch because that definitely is not my strong point. I wish I could articulate what my ears hear, which you do very well at. Keep up the great work. Pssss I dare you to crank it up....I just dare you. :)

@@ZeroFidelity If you're hearing a buzzing noise from the plate amplifier, I'd highly recommend you chat with the famous SVS customer service about it. Odds are they'll have a method of repair/replacement for you, an audible buzz from the amp, especially that loud, is likely something they'll fix under warranty as a hardware defect.

Great review and spot on. I bought two of these subs to pair with my Wharfedale Denton 85th. Anniversary speakers as my main 2-channel and Home Theatre speakers. My, oh my, oh my!!! These babies have brought a realism to my music and Home Theatre that is just amazing. My main interest is 2-Channel music listening and the dual SB-3000 subs put the artists right in the room with me! Now I am relistening to much of my jazz collection and find myself now adding even more to my collection. All genres are fabulous with these subs. The bass is fast, articulate, punchy, and extremely musical. It is also just there, in glorious fullness! No boomy, directional thumping ... just solid articulate and musically powerful bass that revitalizes the bottom end of your music everywhere in the room. I love these subs!

Just received a gloss black SB3000 a couple of days ago and so far I’m very pleased with it paired to Ultra bookshelfs . The app is well integrated and designed. Although I’m brand agnostic, this isn’t my first SVS sub. I have a SB2000 paired with Paradigm Prestige bookshelf speakers in my office. Prior to deciding on the 3000 I agonized for weeks staring at websites from HSU, Rythmik and others. What brought me back to SVS is their customer service, build quality and aesthetics - this sub is beautiful. Having said that I’m getting a nasty 50hz null and probably need to move it out of sight.

Man you’ve got to do a HSU review... in particular their ULS-15 MK2 because music and 2 channel users looking for nice clean bass will love it! Its a 15inch sealed sub, it’s specs are amazing flat from 200hz down to 20hz +/- 1dB and can hit at 12.5hz at 90dbs! Price to performance I really don’t think there’s a better sub out there at $800! It mops the floor of much more expensive subs... I am a music enthusiast but also a home theater enthusiast. This thing was perfect for me, not only do I can that insanely tight bass when listening to music, I can feel the right swift kicks of the bass drum... I get that total earth shaking bass while watching movies like midway or Jurrasic park. I loved the sub so much I bought a second one... not cause I needed it, I just felt compelled to run duals.

I'm currently researching subs for two channel stereo listening. I'm so glat you did a review, albeit a short one, regards two channel listening, as every review you go to just talk about bass slam, and movies. I'm not at all interested in how much I can make my furniture shake. I was looking ar REL's as they get great reviews for music, however they are very expensive. I can get two of these for a little over what it would cost me to get one REL S/510. I'm very tempted by these SVS, they're not as pretty as the REL, which are a statement piece for sure, however I wonder how much of the REL is hype, on creating a luxury item. I'd very much like to see how these compared to the REL S/510

@bigjay19705 жыл бұрын
Agree that most decent sub reviews are untimely tough to evaluate! Either they work or don’t. It’s easier to compare ported vs closed for example! The material of the driver and the tone that it produces like a primary speaker is much harder to evaluate.

I just set up the sub-3000 with psb t2 speakers, which go pretty low themselves. Set crossover at 50 -10db sound great. First day, so I may tweak. I was worried, from your review, that there would be a transformer hum, but there is none on my unit. I’m also using the wireless modules. No drama, they just worked. One thing to be aware of...people call this a small sub for what it does. It may well be in sub land, but its actually the size of a small dorm room refrigerator. Bear this in mind when you consider placement. I have it in a back corner, partially obscured by a couch.

Nice review thank you. The sb3000 is very expensive. It's a bit cheaper for US customers but it even far more expensive in Europe. Cost £1,300.00 or more which is far more than in USD. I've got one and I've not regretted an inch for my purchase. I live in a small space and it is an over-kill because the svs measurement suggested the sb1000 pro for me. This sb3000, oh my gosh, will rattle not just yours but your very neighbours' floors, walls and pipes underneath flooring as well. It actually drops deep to very impactful levels below the human hearing threshold. Plus the bass levels are adjustable to even insanely dig far deeper with no distortion if that's what you'd wish. This thing can pressurise a large living room. You could need two if your space is extremely large depending on your taste.

Omg! You called Nick out! He is the SVS guy and he didn’t know what the name stood for? That’s hilarious. I actually knew Ron very well. He had a nice home here in Colorado Springs and had an office downtown. I got to test out all kinds of prototype subs and production subs. Got to take subs right out of his own home theater room. Really nice guy. Because of all of that, I have owned many SVS subs in my life. And you nailed it though, I have NEVER liked SVS for two channel music. In fact the most recent sub I have owned from them was the PC2000. And guess what, sold it because it couldn’t do two channel. And you nailed it again. Metal is one the best genres of music to test subs out to. I have an entire playlist of double kick drum bass metal music. And if you are looking for a quick sub that is amazing on two channel music, check out the RSL Speedwoofer 10s, best Musical sub I have ever owned. And it’s no slouch on home theater. I have owned a pair now for 1.5 years and they aren’t going anywhere. In face I am buying two more to match with my new Magnepan LRS’s. Keep up the great work man! I appreciate and enjoy your videos! Oh, The Home Theater Hobbyist tested out the RSL too and he really likes them too.

I’m surprised to hear that you have humming issues that you can “hear 6-7 feet away”. It’s pretty intrusive no doubt. Mine is dead silent. I’ve paired this sub with my Heresys III, and it’s definitely a good match to add a nice foundation to the music, being very tight, fast enough and having high output to keep up with the fastest bass of my HIII and overall sensivity. Cut-off is at 60 Hz with a slope of 24 dB, the integration is seamless and one SB-3000 is more than enough with mains that go down in the 50-60 Hz vicinity as directional bass isn’t a factor. With very small monitors, a stereo sub set-up might be indicated. It’s too bad you didn’t have a chance to download the SVS app, although after a while it wears thin as you basically keep the same 2-3 settings (music | movie | gaming and/or TV) that you have tweaked. I like your “no nonsense” or pragmatic reviews. Keep up the good work.

Hmm i can only hear a very, very faint high pitch hum from the back plate if I'm like 4 inches away. Great channel. I have the SB3000 for my home and love it but need something lighter for portable use with a JBL MK2 battery operated PA. JBL can hit maybe 110db max. I play heavy electronic synth music and also full symphonic music at 100db+ in the home. Need something less than 40lbs. I don't need the handles of a live sub or the ruggedness just looking for max performance. This is not for gigging, just personal mobil use. As an audiophile I'm looking for the best SQ but need the most slam/attack for loud listening. This is for playing tracks only no live instruments. Here are my choices regardless of price: SVS SBMicro3000, SVS SB2000Pro which I read can hit 121dB at 30Hz, a live sound sub- Bose Sub1 480 watts, 40Hz low end ,118RMS, or a studio sub the RCF Ayra Pro 10 goes down to 30Hz, 120dB max, 300watts RMS. Very confused between home Hifi-studio-or-Live sound subs??

In what way or ways does a Class A/B amp sound compared to a Class D in a sub?

Nowadays? I couldn't tell you. 10 years ago? You could hear it in the upper bass. Class A/B amps would usually sound 'fuller', have more 'body', or whatver adjective you want to use. Stimpson. Vodhanel. Subwoofers. Tom Vodhanel has since left the company and went on to start the very successful Power Sound Audio (PSA) which has gone back to the original SVS roots of being made in America

My main question would be whether all 2 channel systems (that are not full range) can be improved (enough to really notice) with a sub. I am sure it is more noticeable with speakers like the KEF LS50, but for those that go down pretty low (Tektons, Zus), will it really make a difference with music? Or is it only likely to improve the sound with specific musical genres?

I just added an sb3000 to a pair of psb t-2, floor standers that are rated to the mid- 30’s +- 3 db. I definitely get more filled out base. In addition, there are some things (deep drum, deep organ, etc) that even my psb’s can’t reach.
@billwillard94105 жыл бұрын
I bought the SB-1000 but was underwhelmed, since I just came from having a 700 watt ported 15” Definitive Technology sub. I contacted SVS and they gave me a great trade-in value for the 1000 in exchange for a 2000. I got the 2000 before I sent the 1000 back and just for giggles hooked them both up in my 12 by 15 foot listening area. 2 subs really sounded good but didn’t have room for 2 so sent them the 1000. What’s never mentioned and hardly ever shown is the metal curved grill with large holes which I think beats cloth any day.

+1 on REL subs for 2 channel and he mentioned REL in this video. I would start at T7i and above though which are also $999 like this SVS sub.

Haven't heard the TI series. I do luvs me some REL subs though. Unless there have been some major changes though, they aren't as easy to recommend. Mostly due to their limited SPL output - particularly with their more compact stuff.

I love my SVS 2000. I agree that it should be elevated. It's like being close to the base drum. Realistic percussion. The SVS 2000 is awesome. Turn it way down so all it does is make up for what your stereo pair can t reach.

Thank you for this vid! This is exactly the problem i currently have. I recently purchase 2 Polk Audio S60e and i find the bass is lacking the satisfying "punch". Don't get me wrong, it occasionally reaches down low (especially in movies) but in most music i just wish it made the drums and beats stick out more, you know? Now i'm wondering if i should be returning the speakers and be looking for a complete new set of floorstanding speakers altogether or just "fill the gap" by getting a sealed SVS. What are your thoughts?

I wonder if that humming was just that particular sub? My sb2000 has absolutely zero hum. I'm coming from a B&W asw610 (10", 200W) not a drastic difference. I thought I was gonna nut my pants with the sb2000! Nope!

Where should you place a subwoofer in a 2 channel setup?...I heard it should be placed in middle between the 2 speakers, is any truth to that?
@ZeroFidelity5 жыл бұрын
If you're running a single sub, then the answer is usually: "yes". You will want it centered and as close to being aligned with the front baffles of your speakers as possible. The problem is that this is *rarely* possible in the ideal world. The next best option is to run dual subs so you can load the room more evenly (thus allowing you to get away with typical corner placement). And if neither are good options, then you just gotta find a place to put it and try your best. If that's the case, click on the description box of this review and scroll down for some generic yet good advice that comes from SVS.

I actually put it by the right side of my couch for near field listening. Hsu and the audiophialiac recommend that, although many people have other favored positions. In my room, with the speakers 10 ft in front of me, and the SB3000 to my right, it works well.

I went to an svs pb2000 as my first entry level from them and was impressed. I have their pb16 and wow. I have heard many subs with my musical ear and svs makes a great product. Velodyne subs are also a great sub other then their customer service as I said before. You can’t go wrong with svs
@sudd36605 жыл бұрын
well, you until now you could always go wrong with svs, the SVS SB3000 was the first product svs made that is competitive on sound quality at the price point. still not my first choice, its not a high sound quality brand, that's not they're design goal.

I dunno about 'better', but the presentation certainly sounds a lot fuller / more complete. Not that the Buchardts need a ton of help in that area - at least not in my room. But for larger rooms? I cannot imagine too many people complaining about the combo. :)

Mr Zero Fidelity I'm new to your channel, with that being said, I have stupid question, how do I learn more about fidelity component systems, audio systems.
@benjaminsturgeon21475 жыл бұрын
Watch the PS audio page for general education and great guidance on hifi. Watch Ron Brennay at New record Day for well produced reviews of mid-fi through hi-fi systems and straight no nonsense assessments, watch Zerofidelity for no nonsense reviews of more affordable gear.
@ZeroFidelity5 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrew. The educational process is a culmination of research and real-world experiences. There is no single resource that will provide you with all that you need to know, so I'll go ahead and point you in a couple directions worth going in. Paul McGowan / PS Audio (KZbin Channel). This is a great suggestion by Benjamin Sturgeon! Paul has been posting education/guidance videos about hi-fi for many years. He's already covered most of the questions that people tend to have about the various facets of this hobby. A channel that is absolutely worth checking out. And yes - even though his work technically falls under permission-based marketing - it's valuable content all the same. The Audiophiliac / Steve Guttenberg. Vlogs mixed with reviews. His videos are a good way to stay grounded as you go along your journey, as he'll touch upon sometimes deep topics and have insights (from decades worth of experience) that can prove useful to both newbies and veterans alike. If you want true no bullshit reviews (ie: folks who aren't producing ad copy in one way or another) from KZbin personalities, check out Thomas and Stereo or Next Best Thing Studio. Note that I know there are others who are doing a solid job. These are simply the two channels that immediately spring to my mind. Only go to my reviews if you want consistently accurate summaries on how a product performs. I'm not very entertaining to watch. I will post advice videos every once in awhile, although they are sometimes geared towards folks who are at least somewhat familiar with hifi. Audioholics CAN be a good resource to turn to (their website) for general information. Especially if you want info on multi-channel setups. I'd advise you to apply pounds of salt to the 'scientific' data, however. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other websites to and mags to turn to. Get your read on. Keep an open mind. And remember that there are tons of options out there. It's best to start off by acknowledging what kinda music you love, your real world budget, and to keep in mind the kinda listening experience that you'd like to have. Cheers and good luck!

@@ZeroFidelity Mr Zero Fidelity, thanks for your recommendations, Mr Zero Fidelity I just have one more question? Hi-Fi Fidelity systems, is that what the professionals are using? for example many of the opera performances, is that what the professionals are using for audio? thanks again Mr Zero Fidelity.
@ZeroFidelity5 жыл бұрын
@@andrewelliott3567 - I cannot answer that question with any kind of authority. From what I've observed so far, most popular musicians do not own hi-fi setups. The same can be said for the pros who master the music that we listen to. As creators, they are around this stuff all the time. So it makes sense that they'd like to find a different way to unwind whenever the quiet opportunity to do so comes around.

Glad you had the integrity to mention the noise they make. I've had a few subs that made a clicking sound every time they went from 'standby' to 'on' or vice versa when they got a signal in auto mode. Drove me nuts as this happened every few minutes. Looks like the Hsu sealed 15's will be the subs for me.
