I had to shave down the back of the solar panel , and then lay it flat on the Edge of the roof then use small C-Clamps to firmly hold the solar panel in place. It solved my problem of not being able to mount solar panel where it could get sunlight. So if you're having trouble finding a place to mount the solar panel you can try shaving down the knob on the back then laying down the solar panel directly against edge of roof then use two clamps to hold in place. Mines works perfectly now

How long does the batteries last when the light is left on constantly?
@exgenica2 жыл бұрын
Fully charged (4.2V) with the original Li-ion cells described below, for practical purposes, the light I tested provided meaningful light for about 2 hour. The light gets dimmer over time. I did NOT test it to LED cut-off as I don't know for sure if there is any protection circuit, whether the cells themselves have internal full protection (including over-discharge), or just blow the cell's emergency vent when they are abused (which basically means you buy a new cell). How long it lasts depends on the capacity of the lithium-ion cells and their state of charge and how bright you expect it to be. The 2 Li-ion 18650 cells that came with mine each provide 2000mAh at 3.7V, and they are wired in parallel for a total capacity of 4000mAh. It will also vary depending on the LEDs they use during manufacturing (which do change from time to time). The light I just tested consumes ALMOST 3000mA at maximum, but it varies as per the voltage vs. current chart below: (example: at batteries measuring 3.7V, the light draws about 1950mA current) 4.2V 2900mA 4.0V 2500mA 3.7V 1950mA 3.5V 1600mA 3.3V 1200mA The LEDs got dimmer with decreasing voltage. TO INCREASE "ON" TIME You can also swap and use your own Li-ion cells so you could for example use 2x 3000mAh cells for a total of 6000mAh capacity which means more "on" time between charges. OR You can electrically disconnect 1 or 2 of the LED panels. (requires cutting or desoldering wires which will void warranty). Note: with 80 identical LEDs, at 3.7V this likely means each LED is consuming about 24mA. At 4.2V, each LED is consuming 36mA. So by cutting out one of the "wing" LED panels (24 LEDs), you decrease the LED power requirements by about 30% and the lighting will be "on" for a bit more time under the same conditions. IF USING THE "AUTO" SETTING However, total "on" time between charges isn't just based on the power consumed by the LEDs. The circuit also takes power...about 50mA. So, in 24 hours that alone takes up about 50mA x 24hr = 1200mAh, or about 30% of the total 4000mAh battery capacity. That leaves just 70% or 2800mAh for the LEDs. A big disappointment is that in the units I bought, the LED lights also turn on even when it is sunny / when the solar panel is charging the Li-ion cells. I don't know if that is how it is supposed to function. I'm going to examine the circuit and see if there is an easy way to disable the LEDs when the solar panel is providing power (sunlight). This function would have been dirt cheap to add to the BMC. ----------------------- Cautionary Note: anyone selling an 18650 lithium-ion cell and claiming it can provide more than about 3500mAh is either using the wrong testing methods, is misinformed, or is likely claiming more than the lithium cell can actually provide. If the claimed capacity is too high, it's too good to be true.

Good observation. The sensor is adjustable and pointed to the needed direction. Seems Westinghouse has some QA issue at least with the Walmart batch. I re-ordered two from Sams Club and will return the Walmart defect ones. The Walmart one has model number SR11AC01H-06, while Sam's club has model number SR62AA21H-06-2. From the number the Sams Club one seems newer.

Yes. I used a common extension available on Amazon, etc. Search on terms like this [ cctv 10m 30ft 2.1x5.5mm dc 12v power extension cable ] If the middle connection will be exposed to the weather, I recommend finding one that has a weather-resistant connector shroud on the female end that will connect to the solar panel male coaxial connector.

Does anyone know what the difference is (if any) between what appear to be IDENTICAL Westinghouse model lights? Prices are at time of this comment. $20 Q01FM2601-06 (sold at Walmart $20 and a couple various other sites for higher $). I could NOT find a way to search for this on the Westinghouse site but did not see this model among the offereings) $35/$50 SR11AC01H-06 (sold at Westinghouse, Walmart, and various other sites at prices up to $50) These appear to be IDENTICAL, down to the same circuit board, proviced lithium cells (2x 18650 2000mAh 3.7V Li-Ion connected in parallel), 80 LEDs, 2000Lumens, sensor specs, etc. (note: the provided 18650 cells in both models deliver a TRUE 2000mAh in my tests, so the cells do appear to be decent). Note: the cells connected in parallel mean the total battery capacity is about 4000mAh at 3.7Vnom. There is a battery charging control circuit in the circuit board that regulates the solar cell recharge voltage to the lithium cells. However I don't know how well it will perform long-term. I didn't assess the circuit for charging current regulation. It may simply rely on the limited current output from the solar panel. [Note that OPEN CIRCUIT solar panel output achieves about 7V in testing. And, 3.7V Li-ion cell charging must not exceed 4.20V, and for improved lifespan should not exceed 1C=2000mA). I think the solar panel's maximum output current is likely well below that.] For $20, and if you're willing to "fine-tune" things, I think this is an ok security light...but the ones I received have issues. The build quality of the device itself is poor. The battery compartment and all the other screws are the worst production screws I've ever seen. I had to use a "stripped" screw removal tool to unscrew about half the screws. They were not stripped...they were just made that badly. The screw heads look like thay are partially MELTED. The timer slide switch felt LOOSE. I also had trouble getting the lights to set to the desired time (30/60/120 second). The 3 position slide switch feels very fragile, and it doesn't have a crisp detent feel when switching between the times. Similar issue with the power on/off/auto rocker switch. For my purposes (patios), the sensor is too sensitive. I have to wrap some foil around the sensors to limit the "view"/reduce sensitivity and reduce false triggering. This high sensitivity may be good for some people...but not where I'm using them. The electronics and LED compartments are not gasketed, so they depend on the "fit" to keep out rain/moisture. Given the design I believe these will not hold up well under heavy rainstorms. I'm going to seal (and the screws) with silicone before permanently installing these outside. Same for the LED heads and the solar panel. For the $20 price they DO put out a decent amount of light, and as I said, the lithium cells appear to be decent quality...MUCH better lithium cells than I've found in most products that come with lithium cells. Even so, I'm going to replace the 2 cells in ONE of the lights with 3000mAh cells (for 6000mAh total capacity).

@@ColoradoRMN maybe I misunderstood the directions, it is listed under cautions: Battery Instructions "Remove batteries from equipment which is not to be used for an extended period of time", I initially took this as a reference to batteries that came with the unit since this was on the pre-installation page. On the operation page there is a section on replacing the batteries... either way it doesn't matter to me now, I said to heck with finding this battery pack (cause I couldn't find them)... By the way, I like the light, plenty bright, bought 2 online for $50 plus tax. I am no expert but this is my 4th different solar powered out door spotlight, for the money, and in the sense this is only day two for me, thus far the best outdoor flood light I own...
