I don't know if it's just me, but at some moments the sound disappeared completely in this video, like between 3:10 till 3:40, 8:28 till 9:50 and 15:06 till 15:23. Edit: everybody doesn't have to respond that it happened to them as well or not. It has happened to (almost) everyone after my comment.

you are absolutely right to have safety concerns about this airline. the cabin lights should be dimmed for take off and landing in night flights and cabin aisles must be free of any clutter (loose objects, obstacles etc.) in case of rejected takeoff or any other emergency that requires an evacuation, these small details can be either fatal or life saving. i think you should have filed an official complaint about this. as for the station manager issue, that requires a whole report of its own.

I don't understand why the cabin lights should be dimmed. I know while driving a vehicle at night you don't want the interior lights on because of the reflection. But the pilots are up front with a cabin door closed it shouldn't affect them. Can you please explain.

You are, of course quite correct. It is an unwritten aviation 'rule' for lights in the cabin to be dimmed on take-off and landing. This is a safety consideration to ensure that in an emergency the exit lights may be more clearly identified.
@fairlyvague82
@fairlyvague82 2 жыл бұрын

@wakeupcall2665
@wakeupcall2665 Жыл бұрын
That is not correct. Depending on the authority where the airline is based, it is not an unwritten rule (what is that suppose to mean, anyways?) but a part of standard operating procedures, or not. For Boarding the cabin lights are fully illuminated to charge the fluorescent strips along the aisles, which takes about 30 minutes for them to reach their maximum brightness. For taxiing, take off and final phase of approach, landing and taxiing to the gate, lights are dimmed so that the eyes of the cabin crew are adjusted to the dark, in case of an emergency. One important part of the Emergency Evacuation Drill is ‚Check outside conditions‘ for obstacles and situation. Every aircraft has an Emergency Lights System which consist of the exit signs above the doors/pair of doors, also at ground level, the fluorescent strips in the floor that guide you to these exits in case of dense smoke and you need crawling, lights to illuminate the top of the slides or wing area, which is to be used in an emergency evacuation. The emergency lights system provides lights for about 10 minutes, and is independent from the other electric supply of an aircraft. As long as normal cabin lights are still operational, the Purser will switch these onto full brightness, as soon as the Emergency Evacuation Codeword is announced. Cabin crew are only allowed to initiate an evacuation in case of a ditching, severe structural damage and/or life threatening situation. Here communication won’t be most likely possible anyways between from of aircraft/flight deck and aft cabin. So: cabin lights shall be dimmed, so cabin crew have no difficulties observing outside conditions during the ours of darkness, and additionally, passengers eyes are also adjusted to realise what is going on straight away. I worked the most parts of three decades as cabin crew/purser both long - and shorthaul. Saying that, I would never travel on airlines other than North-American, European and Australian carriers (including SQ and SAA), simply because of the fact of unionised workforce and very strict flight time regulations and a functioning company resource management in Co-operation with an independent aviation authority body. Because THAT is what is important, and I am happy to pay the higher prices. So: dimming lights for the crucial parts of a flight may or may not be a part of SOP of an airline. It can happen, the purser forgot or had no time to do so (oh yes, that happens and you rather strap yourself in when the skipper thinks he is riding a motor bike instead of a passenger carrying aircraft)

The joys of air travel, a few years back I flew on American from New York To Miami with the stewardess doing the pre-takeoff checks and leaving luggage on the floor by the exit door. Last month I flew Emirates business class Auckland to Dubi 17+ hours. There was a screaming baby in the cabin but mum very kindly walked up and down with it thus ensuring the entire business class cabin did not get any sleep. Flying, you have got to love it!

As an American living in the Philippines this seems like a bit of projection on their part. A drug mule going to China is like someone bringing their own food to a buffet. Everyone in Asia knows where the drugs are actually coming from. If anybody was actually trying to take them to China we would be hearing about it because the kind of punishments they give for that are sure to spark an international incident.

Thought things couldn’t get worse but then we boarded the connecting flight to Harbin. Flight deck crew were smoking (plane stank), unsecured cabin again, and a cabin crew member was stood in the galley for landing. Before we had even left the runway passengers were up and taking bags from the overhead lockers. The most bizarre flight I’ve ever taken. Worrying about what else they’re doing that we don’t get to see.

The best view I've had from an airport hotel was at New Chitose airport in Sapporo. The hotel is right above the airport terminal, so the view of the tarmac and the planes parked right below is awesome. I once flew round-trip with China Southern Airlines from Amsterdam to Melbourne via Guangzhou. The plane was new, but the experience was horrible. They were still a member of Sky Team, and KLM recommended them, but I did not earn a single Flying Blue point. I also could not check-in online, and I had to wait at a customer service desk to change my assigned seat. Nobody spoke English, at all. Guangzhou was hot, filthy, and again nobody spoke English at the international terminal.

I've flown on American and Delta flights where the flight attendants didn't dim the cabin lights during take off. I complained to AA's customer service once about it and they claimed that it wasn't FAA regulation. I've also seen Delta, United, American flight attendants (on flights to China) give up on trying to get Chinese passengers to follow all safety procedures for taking off/landing (i.e. seats in upright position, stowing away luggage, etc.). Some Chinese passengers will refuse to follow directions...

It's bad if airline staff interact with you personally on social media, but it's unacceptable if it's condoned by the airline itself. I would complain at the highest level possible (I did watch the earlier video, but I can't remember what you did). Cabin staff on any airline do make mistakes though. I was on an AA flight last weekend where there was no mention of the window blinds being raised for takeoff or landing (isn't this equivalent to dimming the lights?). On the same flight, I asked if I could use my GoPro to record the taxi and takeoff. After the crew member went away to consult 'the captain', he told me it was against TSA regualations and I should 'check their website'. I did and couldn't find any mention of a restriction, so I started recording. The crew member came over and asked me to stop - I told him that I'd looked at the TSA website and had found no such restriction. He said that the rules change all the time, but pilots get to hear about them first and, because it was Easter weekend, the TSA probably hadn't updated their website!!
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 жыл бұрын
Peter Hastings you’re correct, the TSA does not prohibit recording. Pilots are often ignorant fools, just like cabin crew members. That said, why did you ask for permission if you were going to disregard it anyway? That’s troll behavior.
@peterhastings703
@peterhastings703 5 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 Troll behaviour? I asked the question and then did what I did based on the answer. I asked out of courtesy expecting, of course, approval. I've asked before, and on only one other airline have I been told a straight 'no' to using the suction cup to fix the GoPro to the window - and I complied. In this case, the reasons given were easily checked and weren't validated online, so I chose to go ahead knowing that I'd have good grounds for a challenge (though I didn't use the suction cup - which is what I originally asked about - and videoed hand held). And, if I was to be pedantic, I was told verbally not to 'videotape' the taxi - I didn't disobey this instruction as the GoPro doesn't use tape 😆 Having said all this, it's probably easier not to say anything because that puts the crew member in a position where they have to be proactive. On the flight after the one I described (again on AA), I just set up the GoPro immediately before push back. Result: no comment at all.

Peter Hastings once, on an American Airlines flight, I was sitting in the window seat in business class, and even though the entire row of seats that I was in were free apart from me, the air stewardess came over, and told me to sit in the aisle seat as that's the seat that I'd been booked in. When I said, no, I'm happy where I am, she went and got the captain and he said he wouldn't take off and less I moved seats, unless I wanted to be thrown off the plane. And I had just paid nearly $2,000 for a seat. Bye bye American Airlines, guess who won't be flying with you ever again after that flight? ..Hey, well done, you got the answer right! And I never flew with American ever again. They lost a lot of my money. That is how you hurt an airline. Just on this subject, and I know I'm moving off topic here, because it has nothing to do with safety, but I just wanted to tell you the story anyway, as it was quite fun.. About 2 years ago, on a Middle East (very well-known) airline a really obtuse and not very pleasant flight attendant had upgraded a family on board for some unknown reason, which meant that neither me or my wife could sit in our business class seats. When I pointed this out, she said there was nothing she could do as the plane was now full, and unless I wanted to take a later flight, would I mind sitting with my wife in premium economy. You can guess what my answer was. So I asked to speak to the chief cabin attendant, and he said exactly the same thing, and told me that I should probably either take a later flight, or sit in premium economy. So, both myself and my wife, stood in the aisle, and said we weren't moving until we got our business class seats. And unless they wanted us to cause a scene, and tell everyone on the plane, why we were still standing - and that it was the stewardesses fault, they should just move the people in the seats back to economy or have us thrown off the plane. We explained politely, that if we could be moved back to premium economy, so could the people that had been upgraded unfairly - against people that had paid for their seats. We were saying all of this out loud in front of everyone on the plane. So the captain called the police, and we were escorted off the plane by armed officers I might add, while our baggage was removed from the plane. We were then told, that we were not welcome on that airline anymore, and that we should probably book a different flight home on a different airline. We then decided, that we would never fly with that airline again. Thankfully, it wasn't my favourite Middle East airline, so I wasn't that bothered I guess, although it was slightly annoying as sometimes the other airlines are full and I will now have less choice. Now the interesting thing here is, I fly to Dubai very regularly, and so do all of my business partners and so do many of my employees, and many people I know. Sometimes they are so stupid, it hurts. There have been probably 100 opportunities where I could have chosen to fly on this airline to Dubai either in business class or first, but I chose another airline instead. Almost every one of my company employees have done the same thing. And many people I know as well. There have probably been 400 or 500 opportunities for myself or colleagues to fly with them in first class or business, but chose another airline instead. So that's around $3.5m of our money that they didn't get in the end. I wrote to the chairman of the airline, and informed him that his company had just mislaid and lost $3.5m due to a very serious mistake by two employees. And that I was writing to inform him personally, so that he could launch an investigation. I explained that I couldn't tell him all of the details in the first letter, as they are so sensitive, but if he wishes to write back to me I will explain how the company lost the money. His secretary (PA) wrote back, starting with a proviso at the top of the letter, that it wasn't a prank, or a crank letter, but if genuine, he was extremely concerned, and could I write back and explain all. I wrote back, with a covering letter, saying that it definitely wasn't a prank, or a crank, and that the company had definitely lost $3.5 million dollars due to some stupidity by two employees and that the money was irrecoverable and lost for good. I explained, that he should turn to page two where all of the details would be. So I politely explained in this letter the reason. I just concluded by saying, that due to an extremely stupid move, by an obtuse and very unpleasant flight attendant, no one in my entire company would be flying with his airline in business or first ever again, and the company had lost a minimum of $3.5 million of our company's money due to the 500 lost flights. I even added at the very end, that through the company's lifetime, it could add up to more than $10 million dollars. I'm wondering whether any disciplinary action took place between the chairman and that flight attendant, or even the captain, because that's an awful lot of money for a company to lose just due to a bit of stupidity. I have no qualms, but that's how easy it would be for a company to lose millions. In this cut and thrust market which is extremely difficult to make a profit in, companies need to work harder at earning tourist money. I urge everyone to consider which airline they fly on, and where they spend their money. And if you get treated badly, consider not flying to that country, or with that airline ever again. I even told Ryanair that he had lost me as a customer for life, and that I would only fly Aer Lingus to Ireland given the choice. If enough people did that with Ryanair he would go out of business. Think everyone, think..

Yeah, think it’s just a cultural difference. When you’re brought up in an area where everyone is acting the same it isn’t a shock, but when you visit an area with a large culture difference it can be quite a shock. E.g Americans are typically very loud and over confident to others, idk about British since I am British but I’m guessing the drinking culture is a shock and probably a bit of an arrogance when visiting other countries, Germans seem very serious and less personable, Chinese and some other Asian cultures seem quite rude and brash. But generally we are all the same we just emote differently

I agree, its not just the case of people and cabin crew messaging u back it may change the actual experience of the flight and service you get personally which may be good or bad and will not give a representative of the airline in general. E.g. if you complain, the staffs/ crews might neglect excellent service for you, or try to change your opinion by providing only you extremely good service whilst its not the same for others, (though I know as soon as you whip out the camera they will know you are making a review and adjust the service likewise but I just think it's better to post comments on social media after your trip since the video won't be posted immediately , I don't really see the rush to make any comment unless you want immediate actions from the airline.

Mostly mainland Chinese who has money but doesn't have manner or common sense in public space. People get up as soon as the airplane touches down (aircraft decelerating on runway, not even on taxiway yet) and try to get overhead luggage, many Chinese guys watch Chinese TV drama so loud on their phones (no courtesy of using ear phones), people bump into you and say no "sorry"... list goes on. That is, you ate everything you put on the plate. They had a Chinese colleague, who functioned as an interpreter. A passenger tried to get up after the plane touched down, but the FA saw him and asked to remain there. After we parked to the gate, the Chinese colleague called the passenger and told him off. So... Russian people do the job for you. They just require you to comply. Because they are responsible for you.
