They are more like shears than side cutters. How do they compare to the regular shears? I think that would be a better comparison

An unfair review in my opinion, I'd like to see the step - cuts compared to the equivalent knipex cable shears.

I'm using the Knipex: 95 26 165 and I also have side cutters, but I rarely use them. as the knipex cuts and strips (if you have a feeling for it) them perfectly. I love using this one.

Those step cuts are amazing that 2 stage is a brilliant idea, though I feel I need to defend the 7006160 side cutters. Surely side cutters and sheers are two entirely different tools. I'd use the side cutters more to cut smaller cables like 8.ore or the cores inside. A shearing action is needed for round cables like fire cable, meter tails etc. Your bigging up the step cuts which I agree are fantastic, but then kinda putting down the side cutters but that's not really what their for. For smaller cables that's 70 range of side cutters is brilliant. I have done a review of this on my channel I found them really good for stripping with the 2 stage action as well
@efixx
@efixx 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan - yes agree two different tools but we were just trying to show the difference in cutting action. When we started out we only had side cutters and a knife! 😁

I’ve been using the knipex loppers (not the stepped variety) in place of sidecutters now for 20 years. The sheering action gives a much cleaner quicker cut, and they are good to use as strippers also👍

Are they 180mm? Would be nice to see them a bit longer as to shorten that wide gape that looks like it requires a good bit of effort on the initial cut. I can't see it replacing my bahco 2233D 240 purely for that reason it looks really uncomfortable especially on the 25mm.

Hey, NYM and NYY are German standard cables and except NYIF (which is crap btw.) the last survivors of the European harmonisation of cables. Like your twin-and-earth or SWA which also kept up their old designations instead of H07-X or H05-X. And now let's have a minute of silence for the NYA, we'll miss you! H07V-U can never replace you! 🤣 NYIF is a flat cable for installation directly on brickwork, below plaster. Wire insulation is PVC, sheathing is rubber. Only for dry rooms, no contact to combustible materials like wood. For the installation you must use nails with an insulated head. In the old days the insulation was cardboard, now it's plastic. The nails are inserted between the wires, so you nail through the sheathing. When making bends, you need to cut the sheathing between the wires and fold it over. Total mess. Back in the old days it was cheaper than the NYM, and that was the only reason to use it. NYM is rated for dry rooms, wet rooms, outdoor (when protected against sunlight), you can insert it into concrete (not compacted one). The manufacturers don't even changed the wire colours in their data sheets for this cable, the picture still shows the old German colours for the wires used between 1965 and 2003. In a three core cable the line was black instead of brown: asset.conrad.com/media10/add/160267/c1/-/en/001152554DS02/datasheet-1152554-faber-kabel-020289-multi-wire-planar-cable-nyif-j-3-g-150-mm-ecru-sold-per-metre.pdf

was just using my step cutters on 25mm^2 tails, they are easier than using my 250mm cropers. Great for sripping too. Definitely agree with the opening them up part, Iyou just seem to need to open them further than you'd expect. Edit: they also do 35mm^2 H07 beautifully.

I hurt my wrist as an apprentice using the wrong cutters to cut cables and wish I knew what I know now, I always make a point of telling apprentices to make sure they use the right cutters for the job and to not strain,we only get one body and as trades people we use ours to make our living so it makes sense to look after yourself

I've got the Knipex 200mm cable shears and they are dog s..t, its a real struggle to cut meter tails.. i like the look of those step cuts, be interested if they can give my CK's a run for the money as i regularly cut up to 50mm with those .. nice to see knipex making a good attempt at making cable cutters, i have tons of knipex gear and are my go too tools, but always found the cable cutters over priced and under performing
