The noise is fine - we need to know if a place is noisy or not. What's missing here in the UK is Thai street food, which would bust every hygiene and H&S law around 🙂 This place looks the goods, though, you really enjoyed that.

Great video. Another good Thai pub is the Churchill Arms between Notting hill and Kensington. I’d suggest it just before Christmas because the pub puts up dozens and dozens of little Christmas trees and is lovely!

I can remember going into a Thai restaurant in Plymouth we felt sorry for the owner he came out wearing a cardboard belt and it was clearly a struggling restaurant. I had a Thai soup which was exceptionally good and blew my my head off. He closed for good the following week which was such a shame Gary. That food looked excellent and you could see behind you Asian people using the restaurant which is always a good sign, great review as always, take care, Gareth

Thanks for the review!! Traditional Pad Thai is served often with slices of lime so you can balance out the sweetness with sour. Also more Thai hot chilies, which are great sliced thinly in rounds - Thai peppers are quite narrow and not too long. That heat is too often toned down for English, American and Canadian tastes, even though I love that heat.

Impressive. I love Thai food. The color variety in Asian cuisine in general is what is so appealing to me. And the fact that they use a lot of vegetables is why it's one my favorites.

As a Thai person, jungle curry is a pretty wild choice for a first Thai cuisine to review!, but you absolutely get the unique taste that most Thai curries don't have, which comes from Fingerroot (Krachai).

I absolutely love good Thai food. So much so, I learned how to make a couple of dishes. The aroma is amazing I agree Gary. I've only had a bad experience in one Thai restaurant The red curry was sickly sweet & tiny. Plus the crokery was greasy all over. Wasn't cheap either. All the others have been fabulous.

I live in Thailand. Pad Thai is cooked with Pork or Shrimp, I have never heard of Pad Thai Chicken. Also Thais don't eat beef. Every Thai person have ever spoken to prefers Shrimp Pad Thai.

Beef became a thing when the Americans were based there and imported steak and the Thais started cooking with it for the farangs. Buffalo was eaten by a few before that, it was rare because the buffalo was the tractor of rural villages and only those that died (and were therefore old) would be consumed. So you are right that a very small minority of Thais eat beef, though it is slowly becoming accepted amongst wealthier Thais. Chicken Pad Thai is popular in the west. I have only eaten shrimp Pad Thai, but sellers have to adapt to consumer tastes.

Thats not true. I lived in thailand 15 years my wife runs a thai takeaway. Shrimp and pork is more popular, but it is also sold with chicken. Pad thai is not as popular with thais as it is with farangs i would say.

That's not true I worked in Thailand for 2 years. Thai people do eat beef. Padthai is commonly made with shrimps/prawns in Thailand but it also has tofu added often. There are places that make padthai with chicken as well although it is not common.

You MUST try "The Churchill Arms" in Kensington. Lovely beautiful traditional pub with gorgeous flowers outside - with a Thai restaurant in what's like a greenhouse. Delicious food and not a bad price either :)

If u go to Leatherhead again, their is a great food van outside B@Q called Phil Me Up. It looks like a standard van but they serve quality, michelin standard food. They were voted best Burgers in Surrey.

Hi Gary, good video for a thai experience. Living in Thailand, for the past 5 years now. Even here in Bangkok, you can pay between £1 - £2 for padthai, the same for a curry meal aswell. Eat in a roadside dusty no frills restaurant. Coloured plastic chairs or stools. I have lost count, how many times me and my wife, have eaten in those places. Never once had food poisoning. The upmarket restaurants for my take, are a waste of money. Probably better tasting food in the dusty roadside eateries. Try the thai national dish Pad kaprao (stirfried chopped pork with thai basil) with a fried egg. Spicey but ohh my god, i never get bored of this meal. Somtam ( papaya salad) Esaan style the best. So much more to experience. Thanks Gary.

You did an excellent job in trying to explain the flavours. Very hard too because its got a great clean taste and not heavy going. Very light on the stomach. And that tingling sensation is absolutely spot on. I knew just by looking at that jungle curry dish and the colour of it would be hot/spicy. But not temperature hot. I'd give you 10 out of 10 for the review as well as the food you ordered. That pad thai can be sweet depending on how much sugar is used. I think your viewers when ordering that meal needs to mention to use little sugar. Fantastic review and great video 👍

I am so glad you enjoyed Thai food,I love it.I don’t get Pad Thai because of the sweetness,but I love the noodles,and curries.Try Drunken Noddles next time,or if they do Northern Thai cuisine try Khow Soi,a noddle dish in curry broth.For starters my go to dish is Larb,made with your choice of minced meats over salad greens with roasted rice powder,or soups are good.Did you notice Gary how many people are saying that they would try Thai after your review,you are doing a great service to the food industry,and as an old time food industry employee,I thank you.

Visually you can tell immediately that they were going to taste great, veggies cut very nicely, the oil split from the coconut milk means its sat stewing/cooking for a good amount of time, fresh clean coriander on top, side of ground peanuts, you can see the spices and aromatics in the jungle curry and the beef looks like it was velveted before cooked - hats off to the chef

There are loads of Thai restaurants in pubs. They generally don't produce authentic Thai food but then that's true of lots of high street Thai restaurants in the UK.

I love Pad Thai - but squeeze lime over it - which is how my local Thai restaurant serves it. It cuts the sweetness and accentuates all the flavours. I also love their chicken satay - the satay sauce is amazing. So many dishes that I've tried and loved. I don't think there has been anything not to like! So glad your experience was so positive xx

I have to say that, as you know I don't like Chinese food and Thai food (with the exception of the place in Hays Galleria near London Bridge) tastes , to me like Chinese food with added Airwick 😁. On the one occasion I had Thai food and enjoyed it, I had a red fish curry the was very nice. Glad you enjoyed it though !! Restaurant looked lovely. And your selections looked nice. It always amazes me that people that are very close to eachother feel the need to shout. Looked like a 9 place to me !! Very good price. Another great review Gary.

That was a great review Gary. I love Thai cuisine, although I tend to prefer the milder, sweeter, coconut-milk dishes. However, the dishes you had, were a beautiful colour and looked so tasty. Beautiful environment, The Plough and wonderful service, explaining in detail about the ingredients for dishes to clients. They should have served lime wedges to add to your pad Thai ! It looked nice but I couldn’t eat that starter then the main. I make a mean Thai glad you enjoyed 😊

I'd love you to try the King's Arms near Waterloo Station. It has a authentic, rustic Thai restaurant at the back. I think it's Kanchanas Kitchen. Doesn't get more down to earth. Probably difficult for filming though :-)

Lovely review, Gary, as per usual. Do love a Thai and we have a new Thai restaurant just opened up a couple of months ago in our village - although we’ve not been yet. Food looked really good. Love a pad Thai, although not sure that I’d enjoy the sweetness of that one! Jungle curry looked fantastic. Keep up with your brilliant reviews (and stop making me hungry - especially at 05:45 am 😂)

Absolutley love this place! The wife and I would come here a lot before we had kids (they don’t allow children in the restaurant in the evening) and we’re always blown away by the quality of the food! I remember the first time we went there on a Friday evening, we entered the pub section to the front, which seemed to be a builder’s type pub, so we thought we must’ve come to the wrong place!! Entrance to the restaurant is further back, and they used to have the most amazing Christmas decorations adorning the garden area over the festive period. Car park does get busy though, so get in early! Haven’t been here for years, but definitely prompted me to try and organise a ‘date night’ here away from the kids!

Yeah ... I was thinking about 8.5 but you were there, so I'll take your word for it. The food looked tasty. I'm not a big fan of Thai food, but I am a Chinese food fanatic .. but .. each to their own ... Anyway, food looked good and I'm glad to see you trying some interesting dishes ... Good job 👏 👍
