Wow Gary and Mr Cameraman you fell on your feet at this place, and you clearly enjoyed the food. My Daughter watched this clip with me tonight and it took her back to a trip she had to New York two years ago where these sandwiches are served up in there Deli's as the norm, and amazingly similar to yours, including the toasting. I know some may critique the price but as others and i have said before,. you can't put a price on quality, you just can't. Keep up the good work both of you. Chris. PS- Folks if you want a soup just like this or better the secret is beer, (don't laugh) its an old Mrs Beeton's recipe i use (showing my age now, and its one you MUST try ! Hodge-Podge Soup Mrs Beeton Recipe Estimated Preparation Time: 10 minutes Estimated Cooking Time: 3 hours 45 minutes Servings: 4 bowls of soup Non-standard Cooking Utensils: A large pan Ingredients: 900 g (2 lbs) shin of beef or similar cut - chopped into cubes 1.2 litres (2.2 pints) of water 280 ml (½ pint) low strength beer 1 onion - peeled and chopped 1 carrot - peeled and chopped ½ turnip - peeled and chopped 4 sticks celery - chopped 55 g (2 oz) butter (more if thicker soup is wanted) 55 g (2 oz) plain flour (more if thicker soup is wanted) Salt and pepper to taste Cooking Method 1. Simmer the meat, beer and water in a pan for 10 minutes 2. Turn down the heat and skim off any fat from the surface of the soup 3. Add the vegetables and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 3½ hours until the meat is tender 4. Just before the soup is cooked, melt the butter in a pan over a low to medium heat. Slowly add the flour stirring all the time. This mixture is called "roux" and will thicken the soup. You can use more or less roux depending on how thick you prefer the soup. 5. Slowly add roughly one pint of the soup into the roux, stirring all the time until the mixture is smooth. 6. Add the roux mixture back to the main soup stirring all the time. 7. Simmer for 5 minutes then serve in warm soup bowls accompanied by bread or a roll. Sorry Gary did not mean to steal the Show. Chris.

I can clearly hear the joy in your voice when you ate the soup and sandwiches. I was so envious while watching you eat all that delicious goodness. If I may venture a suggestion for the next time you eat a pastrami sandwich, is to have it on good rye bread. Not only is it traditional, but it makes the pastrami soar to new heights. The prices were quite reasonable in my humble opinion for such quality food. Another winner and I hope you visit it again to sample the other culinary delights. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to your future videos.

Both heaven on earth (Carnegie's closed the year after my visit 😢)But l'm sure that Katz's is still going.The big difference I noticed, in NY the pace,the hurly burly .And everyone seemed to know everybody else. Love a good sandwich. Went to Katz in NYC and it was £30 for just the sandwich. Also the staff were spectacularly rude. The food was delicious though and the size of the sandwich is roughly three times bigger than you had. Soup looked really nice. If the soup is properly seasoned that's always a good sign. I have to say, your sandwiches looked small but you said the pastrami flavour was excellent so thats good news. I do like a toasted sandwich. Another outstanding review. Soup was a good price. The pastrami sandwich looked fantastic but the gammon could have done with a slice more!! It's a 9 for me.

I went to school in Marylebone and my dentist is in Wimpole street just round the corner from Paul Rothe & sons, I have walked past the deli hundreds of times and looked in through the window at their wares yet have never eaten inside, after watching your mouth watering film and recommendation next time I'm passing I will step in for soup and a sandwich.

The soup reminds me of the oxtail soup my Nanna used to make. Goodness that was a proper tummy hug made with love. I think the price was pretty reasonable, not much more than McD's and I know what I'd rather have

It is so good to see a soup served that has all the flavors, every time I eat out and get soup its taste's is normally watery and seems to be made just to fill the batch for the day. I am sure this time with the sandwiches you shared with the poor camerman :) :)

I agree with your ranking of 10/10. Pastrami has become dear, so those prices aren't bad. I would also purchase a jar of jam to support a family-run restaurant.

Gary, I must go there when I'm in London! It looked fabulous! If you plan a visit to New York City, you must go to Katz' Deli on Houston street. They are known for their Pastrami sandwiches. Your meal, based on looks, are a 10 for sure!

What a great video. Quality always costs that little bit more and rightly so! If anywhere deserves one of your perfect 10s it looked like that place. Not a chain, food done right and at a reasonable price. Love it.

For that kind of QUALITY Gary i would happily pay that price and when i go their i am going to try the egg & anchovy sandwhich! This just ooozed QUALITY from start to finish, i am extremely impressed- especially with the soup(that reminded me of my fav "go too" soup Oxtail!) What a cafe!😅

A really enjoyable review, and some place a bit different from your usual spots. I don't think the price was that outrageous either tbh, I'm in Edinburgh and would expect to pay that, never mind in central London.

I used to start every day with two slice of toast using malted wholegrain bread, spread with butter, a few slices of pastrami topped with a couple of perfectly cooked eggs. It was often enough to see me through to evening without anything else.

@artyfingers44886 ай бұрын
@@GaryEatsAbsolutely yes, I think the best places (as you've often shown) are the family run cafes and restaurants where they really care about their reputation more than an installed manager in a 'top' restaurant ever could. They have generations invested in it not just cash.

Soup and TWO full sandwiches - I make that THREE individual dishes. Soup and one sandwich would have billed at under £20.00. Have you checked out McDonalds or Burger King prices recently - In this world you pay for what you get !

There are reasons why Roths has survived the decades and you have highlighted each and every one. This is not New York where delis benefit from 19th century immigration of nationalities who understand food. This is London and Roths is a little gem doing what it does best - serve top class food of the highest quality. Whenever we visit London, we never miss lunch at Roths to savour their cuisine and we are never - never - disappointed.
