I appreciate that you specify "the PUBLIC persona of Taylor Swift" as just a small reminder that everything is basically just speculation and we don't truly know her private life. Also that her private life is none of our business to comment on. 🥰 Love your honesty and vids

That giant homicidal bug reminded me why I never go outside. Folklore is a more cohesive album and a MOMENT but Evermore's highs are some of the highest of Taylor's career. I am truly clueless and yet excited about what's coming (eventually) in TS10. Bestie, have you listened to Maisie Peters?? I adore her and she reminds me so much of Red/1989 Taylor's songwriting.

SOOOOOO true about the 'i come back stronger than a 90s trend' lyric ... like listen! it's funny, it's cute, but it's DEFINITELY one of those lyrics that she thought of years ago and then jotted down in that goddamn notes app of lyrics to use one day and then was writing willow and just cherry picked this one. it's bad!!! it has NO place!!!!! this is a whimsical song about her man and then she's just like .. i come back stronger than a 90s trend? it's the same problem i have with songs like daylight because you can just FEEL the chokehold that goddamn notes app has on her writing sometimes (and even though i like new year's day, you can definitely feel it there too). she comes up with lyrics and then doesn't let a song happen organically and it can feel so forced sometimes

Right Where You Left Me! Thank you! I thought I was the only one. Love your channel! If you have any insight into Taylor's reading/viewing habits, I'd love to know. For someone with just a public high school education, she has a a great vocabulary. I think part of it is that she has a good ear - not just for music - but for language and dialogue. She loves words.
@Starbuck-dr7yl
@Starbuck-dr7yl 2 жыл бұрын
I know she is an avid reader. But I don't know much more than that. I know she writes poetry too. so, I imagine some of her readings are poems. She loves diction and knows how to use it. Good point about her having just a HS education. I have a PhD. So, I don't think a degree makes you any more smarter. She was born highly intelligent. High functioning. And, she doesn't need a college degree to out perform those that do. right? I often think what her IQ is, where are we on the charts here because its not just her vocabulary. Its her functioning at such a high level, on multiple aspects, and still being the best. She loves words and word play. But she also loves numbers and has an underrated knowledge of numbers, prime numbers, Mersenne primes and perfect numbers. Highly functioning and high iq individuals can excel at both language/words and numbers. She can do both and must have genius level. I wouldn't doubt she is a member of Mensa.

Yes. It must be that spark of genius that can't be taught. Shakespeare had a middle class education - but look what he achieved. He had an ear (and something to say). I think TS has that, too. I heard that Taylor was watching "Normal People" when she wrote "Champagne Problems. " If Zach has any info like that I'd love to know. Good point about the numerology. Her mind grasps patterns so easily. Lots of overlap with music.

Evermore (the song) is just absolute genius! Justin Vernon understood the assignment 100% with his writing. Also the metaphor of being shipwrecked and being on tumultuous waters during the crazy uptempo section then finally crossing the line to peace and safety ins. way that so beautifully depicts her life autobiographically… like why do we deserve this???

Yes! Mirrorball supremacy. My number one on Folklore also. Cowboy Like Me is my favorite off Evermore. Marjorie and Closure are brilliant in my opinion but I get why people don't like Closure (I love the bizarre time signature and the angry percussion); it feels to me like music emulates the lyrics, i.e. refusing to be smoothed over.

Right where you left me has a line 'she is still 23, inside her fantasy' at age 23 she was told to find a new perspective instead of writing about breakups ad crying about breakups, which might have inspired the line " They expected me to find somewhere, some perspective" . It also has some blank space references, specially in lines like " trends change, rumors fly, matches burn, through new skies, mascara runs" So it lyrically gives 1989 era vibes as well. Also when she was 23 she popularly broke up with Harry, and then she admitted to not date anyone else during that time until 2015, if we believe her words then at age 23 she had her last heartbreak, after that she was the one who left every relationship, and basically changed forever ( publicly) It does have country Red vibe, but she broke up with Jake when she was age 20-21. So If that song is anything personal then what it can be about, I just wonder! It always screws up my mind.

I agree with reputation and lover being weaker than her other albums, I just felt that the lyrics were too focused on her and not her experiences and a lot of the songs sounded like they were about the same thing so her taking the folkevermore route was definitely refreshing as a fan. The songwriting, the depth, the exploration into new topics this really was a win for her and for us

Yesss!!!! Finally someone that acknowledges "Right where you left me". This song is beautifully tragic. This metaphore of staying in the same place when everyone else moves on gives me vibes of old gothic novels. It resonates with me so much because of one friend/lover that forgot about me while I still think about him.

This might sound kinda weird. But I was an OG Taylor fan from her first album and kind of fell off over time, loved debut and Fearless but by the time Speak Now came out I was focused on other music and caught up with other things I was doing in my life and forgot about her. I even hated her for a few years after the kanye thing and then the cringiness of the Lover era. My girlfriend though who I met in 2020 was a big swifty so when folklore came out, I wound up giving it a listen and loved it. Betty was the first song that really pulled on my heart and it almost felt like Taylor was singing to me, in that it was this reunion of my love for her music. It felt like coming home

My top10 from Folklore: 10 - hoax 9 - Illicit Affairs 8 - TLGAD 7 - This is me Trying 6 - Betty 5 - My tears Ricochet 4 - August (i mean, the production is on point and the bridge is fantastic) 3 - Mirrorball (i don't know if i'm crying for sadness or joy) 2 - invisible string (love the imagery and the piado) 1 - The 1 (i just can't explain how chill that piano makes me feel) My top10 from Evermore 10 - 'tis the damn season 9 - Tolerate it (to much feelings, i need a break) 8 - Champagne Problems (love the bridge but the first verse is so good, i used to sit alone on the train to process all my feelings a lot) 7 - Willow (in one line: "a neta das bruxas que eles não queimaram") 6 - Marjorie (My grandpa passed away from Covid and this song helped me A LOT processing grief) 5 - Evermore (The bridge is honestly breathtaking, i just can't get over how beautiful is the line "I'm on waves, out being tossed, Is there a line that I could just go cross?") 4 - Right where you left me (her mind goshhh) 3 - Gold Rush (Is it possible to feel sad when this bop starts playing?) 2 - Cowboy Like Me (It's a grower) 1 - Ivy (Dickinson fans get in line) That being said, i totally agree with you in assumptions about each album. Folklore is a all track trip, every song speak with each other, while Evermore has some hard skips (Dorothea being the most inaudible) but has fenomenal tracks. Loved the video, even tho that bug clearly don't agree you your outtakes.

Interesting rankings! Very different to mine haha. The 1 is an interesting choice for best folklore song. I love it as an opener for the album, but it didn’t make my top 10. I’m surprised cardigan and exile don’t crack your top 10 - cardigan also has a prominent piano motif, like the 1.

@@elenagerhardy2636 cardigan just try so hard to be a masterprice that gets me tired every time, but i love too. Exile was a impact song for me, really great upon first listening but as the time passed, i see myself less often coming back to it, that's what mekes the 1 my #1. No matter what's going on with my life, as soon as i hear that piano and Taylor saying "i'm doing good i'm on some new shit" I'm instantly chill, and i appreciate that.

@@danielestevao2347 yep, all solid points. Probably worth noting that neither exile or cardigan were in my top 5. I like exile a little more, mostly because of the final dueting choruses; ‘didn’t even see the signs/I gave so many signs’ continues to send me to another dimension. My ranking reflects how I usually consume folklore- when I’m in the right mood for it, I listen to the whole album on shuffle. That’s probably why I rank masterpieces like my tears ricochet and seven so highly. But, if I were ranking based on what song I’d be happy to listen to at any point, my top pick would be betty.

As a vinyl collector I thought the Folklore vinyl was a disaster. There were NINE separate variants and I ended up buying one and though it looks super pretty (my copy is semi transluscent beige with some opaque white/brown mixed in which looks marbled when front lit but creates a gold smoke effect when back lit) the sound quality was AWFUL. Like I’m talking UNLISTENABLE. It was badly warped and full of noisy pops and Taylor’s voice sounded super distorted. I’ve heard some of the variants sounded decent but overall I’ve heard nothing but bad things for all the variants of the folklore vinyl except for the red one. Luckily evermore was an improvement with only three variants and much better sound quality, though I still experienced the same issues as the folklore vinyl just on a smaller scale. It was noisy and had some warping and distortion but overall was decent especially compared to folklore. really hope that folklore gets properly mastered for vinyl someday

@@rightwhereyouleftme__ glad to hear it 😃 I did a full re-listen of both albums to make sure I was happy with my ranking. I think ivy is a fantastic song- the lyrics are stunning and evocative, the concept is great, I love that it’s ungendered and a little mysterious, and the bridge is one of the best on the album (which is high praise- there’s a lot of good bridges on evermore). The only thing I don’t care for is the repeated ‘goddamn’- I’m a practising Christian and grew up in a Christian household, so I just wince every time I hear that, even though I’m not especially bothered by any other type of cursing. If I didn’t have that concern, ivy would probably have ended up in my top 5, probably between ‘tis the damn season and evermore.

Right where you left me is my favourite as well but Mirrorball is a skip (the only one on Folklore). I know it is a beloved song, perhaps I should give it one more try.

Okay about Tolerate It: I adore the song, but the thing that always hits me wrong is “lay the table with the fancy shit”. I’m struggling to put into words WHY that line feels so out of place to me tonally…but it does.

Evermore as an album in my opinion is better, although less cohesive. Folklore is fantastic but I had more songs Evermore that just struck the guitar strings of my heart. There are about four songs on folklore I don’t care for, as opposed to the three I don’t care for on Evermore. They even out but I like evermore. Have your own opinion tho.

those stupid birds in the background kept interrupting you so I think we need to force them to wear bad taylor merch for their crimes against the community. love your thoughts, but those fake robot government drones made me click off. not your fault, clearly the government is a lover stan.
