2023 was a rollercoaster of a year for me, but in terms of video games its was pretty damn solid. No I didn't play Baldur's Gate 3.

So about that Echo’s Of The Fallen final boss track. It actually the third remix of that track from FFXIV called “eScape.” There is another remix called “A Long Fall” and it’s not surprising as the composer is Masayoshi Soken. He loves his references and leitmotifs. I didn’t think you could take the FF1 map theme and make it menacing but he did it and love it more as a result.

"What ver of BN 3 should I play" Blue....is always blue. Blue is the enhanced Black ver that Japan got back in the day but here in the West capcom in all his wise shitty practices decided to release the previous and enhanced ver just like Pokemon Dual ver that was doing at the time, pretty shitty. Blue has the better Giga chips if not has the most broken Giga chip ever, it breaks the pvp even more. Folder recycle, you get your entire folder back, the custom bar fills immediately and the giga chip gets recycled too. So yeah play that.

God to say Spider-Man 2 disappointed me was an understatement. I like a lot of its additions to gameplay (especially in regard to traversal) but a lot of areas feel unpolished. And the story was a rushed mess and is a let down for both fans of both spider men and ESPECIALLY for Venom fans like myself. Nevermind the fact that making the host be Harry and not Eddie is a boring cliche’d idea that essentially is just retelling Harry’s goblin origins with a symbiote skin over it and insomniac made spidey’s friend the main villain a THIRD TIME. But ultimately looking at this Venom in its own merits, he’s just a boring alien monster that has none of the qualities that make Venom as a character interesting and does nothing to justify the drastic changes of this “new take” (if you can even call it that), and also looping things back to the host…it also just makes the host change fucking pointless because they’re just a meat puppet in this game, which like…takes away any and all intrigue about Venom as a character. Yeah I agree. The first game is still the best one.

I think in terms of the "friend turned villain" thing, Harry is better than Finn just because it feels like they put more effort into giving Pete and him time to bond, but both pale in comparison to Otto in the first game. Otto being absent in the marketing not only made it a surprise, but it made watching his downfall hurt so much more as it was treated like a B-plot that slowly overtook the A-plot. It wasn't the main driving force until it was too late and it hurt while you watched it reach its inevitable end. Finn just starts at that point and tries to work backwards while the Symbiote is so in your face that Craven feels like the B-plot. Also Otto's downfall is just so much better written and so much more time is spent watching him get beaten down. Ultimately they just played this card way too many times and they need to come up with something new. Hopefully Spider-Man 3 wont do it cuz I can't imagine they'd go that route with how Norman has been written so far. Technically it would be that since he's friends with Peter in the first 2 games, but I following the 3 act structure of Harry and Otto's downfall where they're gone by the last part, the 3rd game should almost entirely be Norman's 3rd act.

@@Macca oh I agree both those sentiments. The whole “oh no my friend is my enemy” cliche is so overdone in Spider-Man adaptations and it’s especially prevalent here in these games, heck despite the symbiote getting the main billing I ended up finding Kraven way more interesting than Venom because not only does Venom himself just lack any character period but I’m just tired of having friends be enemies at this point (especially since there’s already a misconception that Spider-Man villains have to have some mandatory connection with him to be interesting or have stakes which Venom/Eddie Brock from the get go already is interesting without). And the whole two villain act structure has to stop too. Though I also do agree that despite disappointing me way more I still think Phin is the worst main villain they made in these games so far purely because I at least bought Harry and Peter’s friendship while her and Miles is practically non existent. If anything I think Venom and Phin have the exact opposite problems with each other. Phin and Miles don’t have a believable friendship, meanwhile Harry and Peter have such a believable friendship that I don’t really even buy the conflict between them even happening (the symbiote uncharacteristically making him a meat puppet on top of that doesn’t help either)

@@Macca also I pretty much knew the story was going down the drain the instant I saw them taking stuff from Donny Cates run on Venom. Not because that run was bad. But because 1. That was never going to fit into the black suit story from the get go and 2. Donny Cates run is VENOM’S story exclusively. It was never meant for Spider-Man, period. The reason Donny Cates told arguably the greatest Venom story ever is because that run was a story for Eddie Brock and twisting his history for gripping drama with the symbiote, as well as expanding the lore of Venom’s own side of Marvel and setting him as his own thing from Spider-Man like how Wolverine is separate from the x-men. Heck Peter (and also Miles) appear in this run like twice and in Peter’s case it was just for events and literally the last issue.

@@SharpestSniper99 I haven't read Cates' venom run but I have heard this game took so much from it yet they left Cates out to dry in terms of credit and compensation. At the very least he should have been credited. Marvel is so bad about actually giving creators credit/pay when it comes to adaptations.
