Reviewing Four Dutch-Translated Comics [EN/NL sub]

Hello everyone! I hope that you'll enjoy this review video, it's a bit different than the usual one hahah. I speak afrikaans (understand rlly more than speak fluently) and hearing Dutch is always a little like having a stroke LOL like my brain knows I should understand but it’s just a little to the left! Always a strange experience. I loved this video!!! Always fun to see what other languages people speak!!

So do I (fluently 😉) and I agree its always a strange one haha! I could understand everything Seji said though which doesn't always happen, I guess maybe it has to do with dialect. Its confusing because my brain is understanding but constantly thinking something is wrong at the same time 😂

Just an FYI: The CC is broken from around 7:10. It's fun being basically bilingual in German and English and understanding about 2/3 of Dutch. (although, I find the written language easier XD)

Ik zat samen met mijn partner naar je te kijken en hij was lichtelijk verbaasd dat je in 1 filmpje het over 3 talen had 🤭. Over problematisch familie leden. Ik heb er meerdere en het is heel moeilijk om aan anderen uit te leggen dat iemand een goed persoon kan zijn maar ook -fobisch. Zelf snap ik het namelijk ook niet altijd. We zien de wereld toch heel snel in hokjes om er dan iets mee te kunnen. Nuanceren doen we eigenlijk pas als het heel dichtbij komt. 💛 I'm really liking these videos in which people talk in another language. You can see a difference in the way they talk 😍

Wat jammer en vreemd dat bij Canciones de rijm zo verloren gaat. Dat ligt dan ook wel erg aan de vertaler. Misschien niet een hele bewuste keuze van de vertaler, maar de ene vertaler let wel erg op de klankrijm en de ander vertaalt het op zo'n manier dat de woorden meer kloppen. Stel dat Menno Wigman dit had vertaald, dan zou er waarschijnlijk veel meer intact blijven van de klankrijm. (Mits hij natuurlijk nog leefde en Spaans kon vertalen.)

I share your appreciation of any level of language interest and skills: I have made the experience that already a beginning familiarity with the sounds and the melody of a language can change your perspective! I asked one a botanist about his favourite plant. He told me without hesitation "the one I am presently occupied with" That is my experience with languages. Indeed I once had started to learn Arabic, but only because of the beauty of the script and because I associate with it learnedness. I didn't come far, but fell in love with its sound!

Is Dutch hard to learn for an English speaker?

I have no idea to be honest XD I hear the grammar is tricky, which is kinda true and the letter 'g' is hard to pronounce if you don't know a language that has a guttural g or ch, but other than that I don't think it's much harder to learn than most languages.

Dutch* yes. It’s one of the hardest languages to learn when it comes to grammar etc. But should still be doable.

@@americanbookdragon yeah they're both germanic languages and quite similar, i've heard that dutch is one of the easiest languages to learn for english speakers except for the fact that it isn't quite as possible as spanish or french for example so you can't find resources as easily
