Reviewing Geoff Castellucci's "Song of Durin"

Geoff's attention to detail is amazing. The video was recorded in hours, beginning with nearly clean-shaven Geoff and ending with the most hirsute. He and Kathy plotted out which Geoff was looking at which other Geoff for each stanza. Kathy then signaled him, like the guy at the airport signaling the planes, for each of the 5 variations. Ed had prepared a prosthetic nose for Gimli, the last one recorded. Kathy wasn't sure if he would want to go that far at the end of a long day with all of the other glue on his face. He said, Absolutely, if we're going to do it, we're going to do it right. Or words to that effect. I am not a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings fan, but it doesn't matter. Geoff gets me in the feels every time. And Voiceplay released Be Prepared from Lion King. Guess who plays Scar?

This is so gorgeous. I have been listening to the one by Clamavi de Profundis for a while, but it’s hard to beat Geoff’s harmonies with himself. I love how it starts out with Gimli. Then Thorin, Fili, Kili and Bofur appearing ghostlike since they were contemporaries of Balin. When I first heard this I teared up😢. This got me re-reading the series. Finished The Hobbit and am about half way through Book one of the trilogy. I’m really dreading the moment when Gimli sings in front of Balin’s Tomb.

Thanks for the reaction. Geoff made the Balin's tomb prop from scratch in his garage. It's this wonderful! I love it when reactors take the time to read the video description credits.

i think that artwork is based on some of the original artwork in the books - it looks familiar that way. That's definitely the Moria in my head!

That ending always breaks my heart, where the rest of the long gone dwarves disappear and Gimli realizes that he's the last dwarf in Moria standing in front of Balin's tomb.
