I am rocor mp, and new to the church. I listened to countless hours of Fr Peter Heers lectures when learning about the church. I agree that this video was deficient, however I would say you should be more careful with your criticisms of him, because all the things you say he doesn't say, he has said elsewhere. I have heard him say it. You say he gave a reason for the calendar change was "muh science" and that's a lie. Buy I believe he was saying the papist reason was "much science". I am almost certain that in other places he identifies ecumenism as the real reason the freemason metaxakis adopted the new calendar. And he also has hours worth of lectures on the renovationists and living church in Russia. He does not avoid the topic. Again, I'm not defending his position, just those particular criticisms. I am still trying to learn your take on it since I'm an infant in Christ at best. I do have an unrelated question. Who was St Mark of Ephesus in communion with when he made the statement to the effect of "the further from you and those like you [uniate wanna-be's] I am, the closer I am to God"?

He leaves out the Finnish Orthodox. If you include them, as they have entirely switched to the Western Gregorian calendar, there are in fact 3 calendars in force amongst World Orthodoxy, when they lead the services. When they are attending ecumenical services, there´s an infinity of calendars.

Finnish Orthodox here, thanks for remembering us, we are often forgotten about 😅 The reason why our church follows the western calendar entirely, was the 1920s political persecution. The state forced the newly formed Finnish Orthodox church to use the same calendar as the Lutherans did. In general the 20s all the way to the 50s were really chaotic times for the church because of world events. However after that we have been kind of stuck in this limbo with some issues, like the calendar thing. There have been some attempts to go back to the original or the "mixed" calendar in recent years, but nothing has happened yet.

@@pelti93 It´s the original you need to get back to. Then leave the World Council of Churches and fully regularise your situation. I would urge you to give the Church hierarchy a strict but doable timescale to carry this out, and if they won´t do so, then to leave for a True Orthodox jurisdiction and aim to set up your own True Orthodox Church of Finland. Though not a Serb, I helped Serbs to set up the True Orthodox Church of Serbia, having to leave the GOC-K (Genuine Orthodox Church of Greece-Kallinikos) in 2011 during the process, ending up in the RTOC (Russian True Orthodox Church) under the Omophorion of Metropolitan and Archbishop Tikhon of Omsk and all-Siberia. It wasn't. There was no Apostles' Fast on the "New Calendar". It's often a mathematical impossibility due to the shift, and this year was no exception.

@@PaisiusAndrei To note; using the proper Church calendar, this can NEVER happen on the Typikon's perpetual cycle. There will ALWAYS mathematically be an Apostles' Fast, even if it's only a few days long.

Hello, I'm new to Orthodoxy and i would just ask if the Bulgarian orthodox Church is valid and are the general branches of Orthodoxy (Russian orthodox, Greek Orthodox etc) regarded as valid by everyone? Sorry if it is a stupid question.

I just wanted to ask if you believe the WO have grace and if I join a local new calendar parish under bishop Joseph in the Bulgarian church would that then make it worse is they are new calendar compared to ROCOR? Hello, I'm a very ignorant inquirer of Eastern Orthodoxy and have a question: If both the ROC and ROCOR use the Old Calendar then why not just join them and continue protesting and doing what you're doing? Isn't splitting like this with the GOC splitting from the body of Christ? I really appreciate your channel and have learned alot so far

I understand. In the first place, there are also True Russian Orthodox against Sergianism and Ecumenism (in which ROCOR before the union played a role) which were against the MP. ("ROC" assumes the MP is the ROC, and our contention is, that it is not.) The MP was founded in 1943 by Stalin. Why should we accept that they are the Church? "Aren't you breaking from the Church" presupposes the people we are in communion with ARE the Church, and we don't accept that contention. May God bless you!

And isn't the best thing to do as a layman to find a truly Orthodox bishop, regardless of his jurisdiction, and learn from him and be joined to him? Isn't there a difference between a patriarch carrying out 'ecumenical' (in the heretical sense) activities, while the bishops under him are Orthodox, then if one's own bishop is a heretic? Thank you very much for your time if you choose to read this comment and respond. I am looking for the truth and have been scandalised by the more I learn, particularly the EP since the 1920s - absolutely tragic. God bless

@@quidestveritas True Orthodox do believe that the MP and others are teaching heresy. Heresy is always the same: a teaching that is novel to the teaching of the undivided Church. Yes, there would be a difference if this theoretical possibility of Orthodox Bishops under heretical Patriarchs could be demonstrated (at which point it's incumbent on them to bring him to trial); however, after almost 100 years of this, it's basically impossible. And yes, the best thing for a layman to do (and what is canonically called for) is to go under a right-believing Bishop.

Do you have suggestions for what I should do? I'm not asking so much which church to go to necessarily but just what should I do generally for my own salvation?

@@quidestveritas If you have three WO Churches near you there is a significant chance you have a True Orthodox Church nearby but aren't aware of it. If you give me an idea of your region, we can try to find something. Obviously those far from a Church can always say typica on Sundays, but you should still put yourself under the omophor of a True Orthodox Bishop.

He wasn't under the Metropolia. He was under the Serbs. He taught at St Tikhon's. And the Metropolia in 1956 when he reposed was not what the OCA is today. Now a question for you: how can you venerate St Nikolai as a New Calendarist when St Nikolai gave the True Orthodox of Greece chrism to continue their struggle against the New Calendarists?

@@NFTUOrthodoxApologetics well I'm not a new calendarist but thats of little effect because I am in communion with new calendar folks I am neither in a place nor am I really interested in making a judgment on that action. I generally lean pro TO, but there's a lot of things that don't add up. For example Vladyka Philaret of NY, who TOs often cite, said that the OCA was graceless on the grounds of being schismatic, not for being cringe and modernists
