I find these almost more useful than analysing pro footage since it is closer to my level of experience/training and I can gleam more info from it than watching a professional who is way out of my league

I would say so keep the reviews of amateur or semi pro going. It's useful for people wanting to learn and it gives you content you can hold on between other bigger projects.

Thanks to this guy. I realized throughout the video that I'm making a lot of the same mistakes, and thank you for your advice. One day I might send you one of my videos, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting fights right now, so it'll probably be a while. Again, many thanks to this guy, and many thanks to you.

Subscriber videos and your analysis would be awesome to see more of. Reds opponent clearly has a lot of experience. He observed reds movements, movement speed and hand behavior, and capitalized on it fairly quick. Thats something that experienced fighters always do in the first round or two. For red, watch this footage over and over again and see what you can learn that your opponent implemented, and where you can improve. You did great against someone who clearly has a lot more experience and who was most likely a belt holder of some type. Take gabes words as gospel and practice/train. I think you did great sir 👍also, you sent the best type of footage. It shows you will not cut yourself short due to fear of criticism. Thats where learning is cut short by a lot. Good on you.

Respect to him for getting in and competing. I would say the biggest change that will allow him to be ready to work is to work on his base. Count how many times he voluntarily broke his own base rhythm stepping before making his attack. Feet coming together before stepping out. Makes it easier to read and means no base to strike from. If your opponent isn’t doing that he’s ready to strike and you aren’t. That advice comes from a place of respect and hopefully to help. Read the rhythm step book by Barry Robinson and buy the dynamic striking tutorial specifically on it plus the 240 rounds tutorial too. Then importantly drill it. Plus all the consistently excellent advice Gabriel always gives is great to add in to your skill set

He didn't throw very hard, he seemed anxious and in his own head. It looked like he wanted to use his length and outfight but he was afraid to jab, teep, lead roundkick or anything that would take advantage of it. The throws might have been a comfort move but he wasn't in the right frame of mind to set it up. I think the idea was good, but if you don't make your opponent respect your striking then you can't really keep them at your preferred range. Throwing scared is a good way to give your opponent confidence to walk you down. Gabriel touched on the defense, a lot of standing still with the spine erect which means you're not really rolling with the punches. You can't move as easily. Long arms that are dangling when they should be ready to intercept punches or punch themselves. A lot of the time it looked like he was stunned when he was getting punched, like he didn't expect it, which worried me. Also, when you aren't able to execute your game plan it lets your opponent dictate the fight. He was getting baited into these very unequal trades at a bad range for him because the traditional mentality of "throwing back". But if you're getting blindsided by every hook and struggling to land single kicks at your optimal range when you do have initiative then you really don't want to be blindly trading in the pocket with someone who is shorter and keeps getting the fight stopped. I used to wrestle in hs before I started muay thai and it makes me think of the times my anxiety was so bad I just couldn't perform. Where my body wasn't working the way I was used to and I couldn't adjust fast enough. When you need to be explosive and you aren't generating the same force and that feeling spreads like a chill. I can relate to mentally damaging myself by assuming I was the weaker person. That they looked tougher or had more credentials; And worst of all, I felt like I would be a lesser person if I lost. Its a horrible feeling, but it doesn't mean you won't perform better next time or that there isn't a place for you in the sport. Our biggest enemies are often ourselves, not our opponents.

I think the difference between a good fighter and a great fighter, is defense, block counters, and as soon as your done punching you have to know that someone is always gonna counter back. At the higher levels, everyone block counters, and it looked like red, just hasn't dealt with that a lot yet.

Would it not make more sense to include kickboxing instead of Tae Kwon Doe? It would make for a larger pool of athletes, and be a bit more interesting. All those Tae Kwon Doe athletes could adjust their styles and still compete, but it also open the door for Muay Thai, Karate, and dutch kickboxing.

@@GabrielVargaOfficial I think he meant for the Olympics. Replace TKD with kickboxing for the Olympics so that everyone, including kickboxers, and Muay Thai and TKD, etc practitioners can compete. Whereas competing in TKD - which is an Olympic sport - is not feasible for someone who does Muay Thai, for example. At least that’s how I understood it.
