For mma or kickboxing head movement is good but it is more subtle than boxing.

Good head movement is good, bad head movement is bad :D If you lack the speed, reflexes and situational awareness (like me) it might hurt you more than it helps you.

I think for kickboxing we should keep in mind that moving your whole body is most of the time a better choice than moving just your head. Move your feet not your head. That being said, I love Noiri Masaaki 's head movement, even if it's look cooler than efficient.

Gabriel “the goat” Varga. You’re paving the way for a new generation. Having a channel like this in my back pocket has helped helped so much. I really appreciate your practicality.

Samart Payakaroon, Giorgio Petrosyan, Hippy Singmanee etc used lot of head movement, but have very few KO losses. There are many more examples in muay thai and kickboxing, and they happen to have way less KO losses than those that don't use head movement.

Not a fan of leaning backwards from punches either. Can't put any counterpressure which I need to do. Because what's stopping the dude from just throwing another 2 shots while I'm leaning away from the first one. You end up backpedaling, your stance is compromised and get eventually caught anyway.

Adesanya KO’ed Whittaker like that in their first fight, but the reach played a big role there

I think the problem with head movement in mma is how people learn it. Most people are only able to identify "good" head movement when it's theatrical so they learn and study canelo or Emmanuel Augustus ect.

It depends, if you slip too low and do not keep safe, then it is lights out for you, but if you do not and keep it safe when slipping, one hand up then you will have a great time in my opinion Gabriel! My coach practices with a lot about rolling under the hooks as well Gabriel. An amazing video I must say, very crucial for those who are either beginners to the sport or whom transfered from boxing to kickboxing, muay thai or mma! 🥊

I prefer to really limit head movement now as I used to do it a lot and consistently got hit. I prefer a higher guard and utilising footwork nowadays.

Its imperative to have head movement in mma but much like hand placement in mma in your striking guard, it needs to be adjusted for mma/kicks.

what if someone feints the jab and you slip right with your left hand low and he hits you with a cross instead?

Philly shell? Raising the left shoulder up should at least mitigate it some.
@denisalexa4435Ай бұрын
that's why you don't always use the same defence for the same punch. The thing with "what if he ..." in fighting, is that he's not gonna. Unless you're really predictable. The first time you spar you will know what I'm talking about.
