As I have said in other MQ-24 reviews: this is the best wrist watch for mechanics. I used to repair the big rigs and this was my every day wear watch. It is slim so sleeves won't get stuck on watch or your wrist won't get stuck in tight places, it has good contrast on a easy to read dial so you can read it even in dark (under truck etc.), it is very durable so it wont break if you bang it somewhere and it is all plastic so there is no danger of short circuiting anything. The last one is a real danger as I still have scars to this day on my wrist because I short circuited a huge 24 volt truck battery with my old watches steel bracelet! So definetly recommended for all mechanics and repairmen!

A profoundly overlooked, yet magnificent little piece. My 91-year father broke his watch during the year, so I offered my MQ-24 as a replacement. He has not taken it off since and loves the watch. Such an able perfomer!

I owned this watch when I worked as a nursing assistant and phlebotomist. A lot of watches are water resistant, but not many are as easy to clean as this one, there aren't a lot of crevices for grime to get stuck in and the rubber seemed to hold up to years of alcohol/bleach exposure.

Sometimes you want a watch when your working in the yard, going bowling, hitting the bar - good unit for it and do like the plain interface. If you are getting dressed up or doing Mass or a wedding grab you expensive pieces then. Good Show Sir!

I own several watches and I really love and appreciate my mechanical pieces but since I got this Casio MQ 35mm white dial (with the kind of "sci-fi" numerals) I just can't take it off my wrist, is just so simple so comfortable and looks awesome with many outfits with that retro vibe, it is taking a lot of wrist time from the other pieces in my collection so I understand perfectly your thoughts on it. It's simply one of the most practical, perfunctory, utilitarian, legible, well-designed, worry-free, affordable, easy to wear, accurate, goes-with-anything watches I have in my collection. I can just slap it on my wrist and walk out the door and not think about it. I don't care if no one looks at it, it's not meant to attract any one else's attention. I don't have to worry about it being stolen or damaged because it's so cheap and easily replaceable. If the F-91 is Casio's digital legend, the M-24 is it's analog equivalent. Simply iconic.

I bought my first casio about 3 years ago. Now four casios later I am an ardent fan they are all working and are fantastically accurate. My Wife says why do you want all those watches and I reply I just can't stop buying them. My latest one the f91w is an absolute bargain and a very accurate watch indeed.

Good video. I bought one of these three years ago when off to travel round the world, including to some places where I didn’t fancy security of a more expensive piece. To the minute it simply doesn’t lose time. It is now my gardening watch - doesn’t matter if it gets wet, bashed etc. Battery lasted just over two years, but I got a pack of three replacements for £1.99 in Home Bargains. So I reckon that means eight years wear for a tenner. Astonishing value.

I bought one of these when I just needed something cheap on my wrist to tell the time with. When the resin strap broke, instead of throwing it away I used it in a miniature clock tower model in a diorama I made. I had to break the plastic crystal so I could paint out the Casio and quartz lettering though.

I bought this watch from Argos last weekend as it was reduced to £7.99 and would be good to add to my small collection of watches. However, when I got home and took the watch out of the packaging I noticed that there were finger marks and a small scratch on the glass and also the underside of the strap was filthy. It looked like someone had worn the watch and had then returned it to Argos. I took the watch back and got a refund as they did not have another one in stock. Got myself a Casio W-86 Illuminator yesterday as it had just been reduced to £12.99. Great channel and interesting content. Cheers!

My very first watch that didn't have a digital display back in the late 80's as a young teen was The Casio MQ24, so I look fondly back at this watch, the analogue display made me feel more grown up. They were pretty tough, I remember crashing my pushbike more than a couple of times, most of the time landing hands first with the Casio taking the brunt with nothing more than a tiny scratch on the plastic. Even that was eliminated when a friend started a Trend where he wrapped a black elastic band over the face (so it resembled a Casio HDA600) to protect it even further. It worked, as I still have the same watch today 30+ years later, I still wear it while doing a bit of DIY and a holiday watch.

Great video Ash. A very practical review of a simple and functional low cost watch. It tell good time and what more can you ask. I personally like a smaller faced watch for formal and business wear and a more chucky watch for more casual wear. Great value.

Some of the “Frankenwatches” (watches made up from bits of Oris watches etc and assembled in India) look fantastic and can be bought on eBay. As long as you know what you’re buying, you can get a good deal because some of them look good. Don’t pay over £20 though as I did and they can pack up! It depends upon the intended use. Personally, I would save up and take that Tudor any day! 😉

Another option is a second hand Apple Watch from eBay (the older models offer fantastic value) and getting a fantastic leather strap from Mintapple. I bought a lovely stainless steel band with my Apple Watch, but have never worn it as my leather strap looks so classy!

I have this watch and recently it had failed died on me. I love the watch’s feel as it is so light and great ease of use. Because of its inexpensiveness the watch is kept on 24/7. This thing goes through hot showers and so on and early on through ownership moisture settled in after maybe 10 showers. However I still kept using the watch, it was just to easy to use and quite classy for what it is. I really do think that this watch for me is smart and down to business. On multiple occasions people point out my watch and compliment me for it. In my school watches are not common,usually those who do have them either have a $200+ or a smart watch. This watch takes a stand outside of the norm of having a watch that can do “this or that”. If I see someone wearing this watch down the street I would think that they would be sensible, using it for a purpose and not as a barrier of wealth. Although this may be my first watch and that I am 16 with a low budget, it’s cost and sensible feeling I have with the watch is currently made me consider buying another one. Everything in this review captures the watch in full accuracy without a doubt. You have received a like and subscriber.

I bought it 6 years ago from Amazon at £5.67. I put on an elastic strap and in 6 years wearing it at work I went only now for a new battery and it's been extremely accurate. It's still as new, and it's been trough some hard times and C&R interventions. It's like wearing nothing. I have many watches, but this little cheapo is what you are going to find on my wrist 99% of the time. Why I changed battery on such a cheap watch after 6 years? Because is worth it!!!

Nice review. It would be interesting to see/hear your thoughts on the Casio MDV106, its a much larger and more 'Rolex-like' dive style watch, I've heard very good things about it. For very casual situations like hiking I really enjoy the Casio MRW-200H; functional bezel, decent luminescence, date and day display, water resistant to 100m. It is also very cheap for what you get (around £20).

Feels too small to men today and Casio has thoughtfully offered the same watch in a 43 mm version - the mw 240 which has wrist presence and is the perfect tool watch for those who don’t want complications in their active life. Just stripped down to telling the time and nothing else.

The MQ-24 has several different dial layout, style (numbers, no numbers, white, black, goldish, silverish, etc). If they just would made one more with full lume dial, would it be a big deal? A dollar or two more wouldn't be such a big deal in price, but voila, you could have a decent lume simple watch. I think it is a missed feature in this line.

For 6.5 in. wrist just fine, but lets be real, 35mm is extremely small for most Westerners. It'd be a shame if a guy with. 7in.+ wrist bought this thinking it wasn't going to look small. But we arent really wearing this Casio for its fashion, we are wearing it for the joy of its simplicity and the amusing price. It's got a great little watchface.

The British Army salute has an open hand rather than the Royal Navy salute that you do. That was adopted by the US and many other countries. The Royal Navy adapted that salute due to dirty black palms from rubbing tar on the decks and not wanting to show this dirt to Royal visitors and dignitaries.

I would love to buy one but I have a titanium Casio/ Radio controlled / Solar Power which is my fire and forget watch - I do think this watch is a statement though - reminds me of my favourite Bible verse Mathew 6 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - I have to travel through some dodgy areas - I would be targeted if I wore your Rolex/Tudor!
