The fishing has been tough lately, but I went out with my light setup to see if anything would bite. The fish didn't show but I still was able to go over the setup, which I thing every surf angler should have, that being a long, super lightweight rod rated for less than an ounce, with light braid and a small reel.

Nice! Bought a SP rod from your link. I have been looking for a light surf rod and you are the only one with a review of this rod.

Just Got 2 4Ks, the C variants meaning it’s got the body of a 3000 series reel with line capacity of a 4000. Can’t wait to test them out on some stripers.

That’s what I’ve been looking for! I need something light. I like casting out lures but it gets tiring on a regular surf rod.

I know you got the ML SP, but what about the M+ one (1/4 5/8 lure weight)? Would that also do well casting the luck crafts or some light lures like that?

Thanks for the video, buddy! I'm gonna buy this rod in the 10' or 9' version because of you! I'm gonna get the medium light just like you. In your opinion, would a 9' version of this rod be able to lift a 3-4 pound fish over a 50 foot fishing pier? Does it have enough backbone to do that, in your opinion? Which length would you prefer for fishing lures from 1/2 oz to 2 oz if you have the choice between the two? Thanks ahead if you could answer my questions, I appreciate it!

bushing in the line roller, i have the 3000 lt bb pretty nice. guy next to me down there last night pulled a 16", looked like 4lb perch out. check out daiwa's new zillion tws baitcaster drag sound hopefully they start using that clicker on everything.

What do you think about the rod now after a year? Do you find yourself picking up Rockaway sp often?

would you take this reel in 4000 size or the Stradic FL in 5000 size? main use would be rockfishing in the surf and off the rocks

Definitely the stradic. The saltist is tiny and has a shallow spool

the action on your rod about a med.? and is it a 50/50 split. i picked up a $ 99.99 TICA HLHB 10'H2S salmon steelhead rod for hair razers and plugs to 1 3/4 oz. great price and the HLHB line is huge running from 7'6" to 14' i want a lighter rod for my sp minnow's and was looking at shimano dialuna's but there expensive. i think you found a winner with the Okuma. i have a 3000 back bay you think it will be ok over the 4000? on that Okuma.

I would call the action a medium light and the 3000 would definitely work I’ve put a 2500 on it before even that works well

You should look into the phenix Cicada, me personally i have the 9’6 rated for 1/4-3/4. Tosses lucky crafts and calissa so far! They also have the 9’0 lure rated 1-6 oz good for drop shot or poppers!

Does the Phenix Cicada feel light? im looking at the 9'0 rated for 1- 6 oz.

@@ShawnLor get the 9’6 I have the 9’ 1-6 and I love it but the ¼-¾ 9’ 6” is the bees knees for lighter rods and plugging. I had one and the reel seat cracked so I had to return it but wasn’t able to find another one since. I just picked up a rockaway ½-2 oz and it feels good. Bit if I can get my hands on a 9’6” cicada or a trifecta I will.

@@thesantacruzsurfcaster6231 do you use a case as well ? Because the sound of the waves is really nice as is the sound of the wind... when i record something, the wind is really shitty...

The newer gopros don’t need a case to be waterproof so the mic isn’t covered up. It gives me pretty good results without an external mic
