Really glad you enjoyed and had a good experience, Gary. I've been to Veeraswamy twice now for big treat occasions. As you say, it is a step above anything else. The smell of fresh toasted spices and the general ambience are very special. What's most impressive is how they keep that quality in the evenings when every seat is taken - and yet the ambience is just as pleasant and relaxed! You certainly pay for what you get.

Granted, it's treat territory as you say, it's expensive but if you want the absolute best then you pay for it in my opinion. So long as you can reasonably afford it though obviously. 👍

Great review again Gary, and the cameraman deserves a special mention here, for capturing the beauty of the presentation. Yes it's expensive but this is obviously a special occasion restaurant and just looking at it the food, the presentation and your reactions to the tastes I felt it was worth every penny. I loved how, while a Michelin starred restaurant, it was still at heart a curry house (albeit a very expensive one) so none of the tiny portions or trying to be too clever for it's own good. It's clearly gained it's awards by focusing on those things that actually matter. A 10/10 for me, too.

I completely agree. The dishes are simple but done so elegantly that I couldn't put into words how classy the product of their food is. It's quite special to achieve that, it's one thing to be able to produce something like that butbit's another thing to be able to maintain it year after year. Veeraswamy is a treasure and you put it on display for us perfectly. Great vid.

The Veeraswamy Indian Restaurant OH MY My parents🙏🙏🙏 got married in September 63. They spent their honeymoon in London. I know it's expensive. It's a michelin stared restaurant in London. You know before you go. BUT for a special occasion or treat, this is something you will not get elsewhere. Forget indian think, michelin restaurant. This did not disappoint. It hit the mark. Quality, service, surroundings, and location. It's an event with first class food. Just looking you could tell that was special food. (Great portion sizes too)

I think people will focus on the fact that it's an Indian restaurant and will judge the price harshly because of that, not taking into account that it's Michelin starred. However, you did order two mains to try. Normally most people would only get one. Sounds like you could probably get a full meal for one with starters etc for >£70 which at a Michelin starred restaurant is actually really good. Plus, the food looked phenomenal.

Hi Gary. Great review. I have eaten here a few times back in the 90s when I was working at Green Park. I recall being blown away by how beautiful it is and feels very luxurious and special. The food excellent too. I think there was a buffet available back then. Regarding the price - it was back in the 90s which meant lunch was on expenses!

It's a fantastic restaurant, Gary! Only been there a handful of times, usually work related, but with the wife a couple of times. Always fabulous service, fantastic food, fabulous presentations and the ambience is amazing. It will always be a 10 out 10 in my database. But it's of course on the expensive side, but worth a visit on a special occasion, without a shadow of a doubt. The roast duck vindaloo is just to die for and so is their roasted coconut chicken curry!! I’ve been here in hospital in Carlisle )for 3 weeks from complications from chemo treatment for Cancer and really enjoying watching your video’s. This one is my favorite so far. I've been there a few times over the years, fist time was as an 18th birthday treat from my late Dad who was Anglo Indian (he.went there first in 1952 when he first came to the UK) Then a lovely ex partner takes me for lunch there when he's in the UK for work....so about every 2/3 years is my treat. Totally agree about the cost, it is expensive but you're getting top quality food & service in an amazing setting. Worth doing if only once for a treat or special occasion. Incredible video yet again Gary, I think you missed out though you should’ve had the rice if it’s that good restaurant they would’ve had aged basmati rice. I worked today Ops manager in rice factory and when you got aged Basmati rice it was out of this world and I think they would’ve been using that so if you ever go back again make sure you have a rice dish. Vindaloo shouldn’t be overly hot. It’s about the vinegar that they used to cook it with so if they know what they’re doing, it’s not gonna blow your head off otherwise they wouldn’t put it with duck. The prices on the menu are eye-watering but right from the opening shots of the restaurant interior I got the sense of how relaxing and comfortable the dining room is. Add in the level of service, the prestige of the restaurant and of course the quality of the dishes then it all goes to justify the cost.

Hello Gary a great presentation from UKs Number one Indian! I am now seventy-eight and I was taken to Veeraswamy by my parents on my fifteenth birthday in March 1961 and it was fantastic, but I was new to Indian food then and afterward went to Brian Rix Whitehall Theatre, Quite a treat! I went back to Veeraswamy with a group of friends for my thirtieth birthday, when I had done many Vindaloos, Kormas, Madras, Tandorris and one Phall at The Hussain in South Kensington, when I was at IC in the mid sixties. However, by 1976 I had grown up and Veeraswamy's was a very special treat and my two currys, a chicken main, vegetable curry and special rice was about eighteen pounds. Yes, expensive for the day but like you , I think the place is very special and the food I have had there was 100A1 as Lloyds would say. Stay safe and well love your presentations and style.

I'm having Indian tonight because of this !! Very nice interior to the restaurant. Such a coward not having the duck Vindaloo lol. 😁 The presentation was just immaculate. That's a nice big naan bread. Vegetable Korma looked lovely. Curried asparagus is a decadent delight ! Chicken Makhani looked lovely. It's a great place for a special meal with a loved one as it's very pricey but worth it as a special treat. Thanks for showing us this place Gary. It's a 9.5 for me as it has a service charge but that's a great review.

My wife visited Veeraswamy several times 20 odd years ago as part of her work and then took me there for my 50th, (2014) that was before they earned their Michelin star. It was an amazing experience ,and for me it was the way they layered the spices so it wasn't just one flavor, I got to taste several flavors in one mouthful, something I never experienced back in the early 80s when we would all pile into the local Indian after the pubs shut. There's two channels my wife and I enjoy watching at the weekends, that is you, and Al's Kitchen, we both think that if you visited Al and did a review on his curries, that would make an amazing video, plus it would be like you're doing a review of a thousand curries made by his followers... Really glad you and camera man got to experience it together, a lovely memory for you both to share.

Evening chaps, what a stunning looking interior. Days of the Raj comes to mind😊 definitely a cut above my local curry house. Gary,actors learn their lines and tell a story. But your expression, your comments. The sheer joy you showed with every aspect of that meal,well that's sold it to me 😊and as you know i'm not a spicey curry type of guy. Price,cost is always going to be a major factor 😢. A family treat,for say 4 people £300-£350. Fantastic video Gary. This looks a really top quality Indian restaurant. I am definitely going to try and go to this place sometime I am in London. Honestly never been to it before or seen it. The quality of the food looked fantastic. Loved the look of the vegetable Korma. Chicken dish looked lovely. None of it looked oily at all. Expensive but I don't mind paying for quality food. Glad to hear the service and setting were excellent too. You're not going to going to be to these places every week. Nice work. Good to see you doing some slightly more high end places now and again. Love the reaction. I’ve eaten at a few Michelin restaurants and tell everyone that you’ve not tasted food until you eat Michelin. It’s amazing. Food that makes you smile and literally say wow. I love it. You need to try Opheem in Birmingham. 10 course tasting menu. It’s Indian but nothing like you’ve had before, not a Bhaji or Naan in sight. They e just got a second star. Amazing

Great review. I went here a few years ago before the Michelin star and had a very average meal. I do know the other two restaurants in the chain and had much better meal at one of them, Chutney Mary in Fulham. I suspect Veeraswamy is now under new management and they have considerably raised their game. Will have to make a return visit I think.

I am blown away with quality of that establishment. That meal looked really appetising and the presentation and ambience was easy to see. I looked on line at the rest of the menu and there are some very interesting dishes. Presentation wow, love the fact you have burners to keep it hot. That Naan looked perfect. You know your somewhere upmarket when you have a bit of Silver leaf on a veg korma. I'm guessing your in at lunchtime Gary did you have to pre-book and if so how far infront. Only thing missing there is a nice cold pont of Kingfisher. I would have definitely gone for the tasting menu as the price is almost the same. Just on looks it a 10 if you don't take vfm into account Gary. I'm off to Google the place

Beautiful setting! Food looked lovely and by the sounds of it, tasted even better. Naan looked fantastic. I would have had to have a rice dish with it but that’s just personal preference (and would have deemed a doggy bag as my eyes are always bigger than my belly). I made a butter chicken for Hubby Joe yesterday for dinner tonight - spooky, lol. Another great review, Gary. Definitely a 10/10 from me. Another brilliant review Gary! Really great delivery of content. Regarding your comments about not ordering vegetarian in Indian restaurants, I think you are missing out on a lot. A fairly large chunk of India eats vegetarian and you get incredible variety and flavor combination in vegetarian too. You can try them in places like Sagar, Saravana Bhavan or Taste of India across various locations in London.

Various stars of stage and screen frequented that place in the '50's and '60's, and maybe the'70's and '80's. People like Marlon Brando, Orson Welles and a plethora of talent that were in plays in the theatres found solace there, it has a wonderful rich history. Although your choice of food was not to my taste, I prefer more heat, you could tell the quality. The price wasn't a shock to me, it is Michelin starred, in London and famous, a treat non the less but worth every penny I'm sure. Thanks Gary for bringing this lovely place into our homes.

I've known of it's history for many years andbwhen I used to live in London I had thought of visiting, always been curious about it. It was lovely to see that it exceeded your expectations. The setting seemed very atmospheric and the decor and furnishings exuded class. I would've loved to have sampled the food you tried. Everything seemed cooked to perfection. Excellent service and wonderful views over Regent Street. It's a bit dear for me personally, but what a lovely treat, even if you only try it once. Looks magnificent, and truly great camera work there. I've never been to Veeraswamy but years ago I did occasionally go to The Red Fort on Dean St in London. It sadly closed in 2018 after 35 years when it's lease was sold. Another exceptionally high quality Indian restaurant. I used to order the tandoori quail, simply because they sold tandoori quail and it's not something you see on a typical menu!

Credit to your presentation, the camera man and the overall production post video / Clearly not your routine takeaway or local Indian restaurant (not that I am knocking them - they are my life, and I have a signature dish at my local so most certainly not knocking that!!). But this is clearly very special. What I would really love you to try the Bombay Brasserie at Kensington - not tried Veeraswamy, but had several meals at the Bombay over the years and they were fantastic! / Would love to look in the kitchen here - but would never be allowed... !! As I am sure you are aware, your local relies on cooking up an onion gravy and then combining with pre cooked meats and spices. Again, not knocking - that, it is the way for BIR (British Indian Restaurant) curry. So I wonder how these top tier restaurants work to produce this amazing food ! / Personally don't be worried about the price - you have done all price points on your channel which makes you such a valuable resource ! Yes that was expensive - but relative to what? / Fabulous Gary, keep them coming. Mark.

Wow. Just wow! It all looked amazing! I'd love to try both of those dishes! And I'd love to have the naan rather than rice. I find rice makes the meal seem heavier than it ought to be, but dipping naan into the gravy part of a curry, works! Not a cheap meal, but you deserve a treat! Top marks to the cameraman!

I can't get enough of Indian food and this place looks good. I love the décor from a bygone era. The first Indian restaurant in the UK, however, was 'The Hindoostane Coffee House', which opened in 1810 in Westminster. Thanks for this excellent review, Gary.

Gary, this is your best review yet. Your sheer, genuine, delight about the food shines through. £70 for a ruby with no rice, sides or booze may seem extortionate but that looks to be the sort of culinary experience you'll remember for a lifetime - & for all the right reasons. Worth every penny, even if you'll need to take out a 2nd mortgage to buy a poppadum there. I do have a bone to pick with you though: I've just eaten a roast dinner, but, after watching this I really want a curry. I mean REALLY want a curry. Watch out expanding waistline, it's time to ring the bank-manager.

Gary, my folks took me there in the 70’s and it was “OK”. Since then I have wondered what it was like. I absolutely love your reviewing style and after 9 weeks in hospital (cardio and cancer) I watched this while eating the hospital Chicken Tikka Massala (you can probably imagine it but it’s better than I expected) and I can honestly say that as you were eating and describing yours my own food started to taste better Lol😂.
