Been skating for a month now, just slowly building up doing the basics myself a lot aswell. Feels like im not progressing but then i realise my board control is improving so much.

Just got back into skating after many years away from it and it's been really interesting to see it from such a different perspective than I did as a teenager. I'm realizing how much I had kind of a 'good enough' mentality and didn't think much about refining or developing fundamental skills, and I think that is what held me back to the most. It was more important to me to reach progression landmarks like landing a new trick (never learned all that many) and didn't consider how foundational skills like board control would help me get there. Now, for example, I'm making an effort to ride switch regularly to help build board control even though it feels super awkward and I can't flow/carve the way I do regular. With ollie and flip tricks I'm thinking about each movement required and how to drill them separately as opposed to just trying to perform the trick over and over again. I'm thinking about what I can do off the board to support the strength and flexibility I need on the board. It's a lot of fun engaging my mind/body in this way and has really opened up a whole new facet of skating to me. So anyway, I enjoyed your perspective here and especially the idea of focusing on pushing and refining that technique. Thanks!

Congrats. Funny thing about pushing is that many people judge skating experience by one's push. I've been skating for about a year, mostly commuting around town on a board, often times riding 10-15 km in a day. Apart from riding fast with steez I can barely ollie, but people seeing my push think I am a pro, skating for years and then are surprised when I fail to get up a kerb. Good luck with the contest :)

Yes! Every time i try something new and i constantly fail, i go back to riding my board switch to get better , come back at the trick and then i get more consistent

I’ve said this is an earlier video: I have the opposite problem. I try everything way too fast and can’t focus because of it. Don’t want to drive you crazy but if you get a soft wheel cruiser then have days that you just push around, carve and flow. It’s going to absolutely change your street game in a positive way. I want to get a freestyle board for the exact opposite reason. So rad that you got to hang out with Dan!!!! Skateboarding is the best!!!!! Keep up the good work. Love your video and how you think. I have to say I have gotten more tips from you channel than any other!!!!!😊

I always find it funny that in the same hobby/sport two people can have such polar opposite problems 😂 in an interesting way! I do have a soft wheel cruiser, I just didn't have many places to use it. But, I think there is a decent spot I have cruise around with it now. I'm even more motivated to skate faster after the contest last weekend. So, I do appreciate the reminder haha
@diddymelone22655 ай бұрын
Yeah I kinda agree, cruising in street does help alot with board control and being comfortable in general. However I found that soft wheels make the board feel very different. My advice is to use some bigger, hard wheels, maybe a little softer, but still hard. Thankfully we are nowadays blessed with dragons and X formula and the likes, so it's really a no-brainer there. Myself I am currently using the 97a formula 4 radial full in 56mm They roll over anything and still feel hard and slide. Anyway I think a hard wheel with a bigger surface area does work great in street

Yeah Sarah as ever some bangers here ! I enjoy Corrigan a lot it was so great to see you with Nessa and Bee too ! Love that feeling of pushing it's my favorite feeling in the world with skateboarding. Fortunate in a sense I lived a few miles out from the spots or centre, so had to find a cheap way to get in and so pushing pushing pushing and I grew to love that. That kickflip was so beast too ! Could really tell you were feeling good pushing and being more comfortable there will translate well elsewhere too 100% That counted also ! Haha Dan should definitely be entering a freestyle comp I would love to see that ;-p He'd probably do pretty well too

I am a 63 year old skater who recently got back into the sport after a long layoff. I see so many young kids doing exactly what you described, trying to learn difficult tricks without mastering riding their skateboards first. I am forced to go back to the basics at this point, and just feeling comfortable on my skateboard again is something I am still working on, though I admit to trying, probably too quickly, to get back to tricks I once knew how to do. I find your content refreshing in a sport where constantly pushing for bigger, bolder, and more dangerous is usually the norm, you seem to genuinely enjoy just riding your skateboard.

The basics are always good! It's what separated the elite from everyone else they just have the basics down solid! Also I love how much approach skating in such a honest and open way. You are not afraid to be vulnerable with your skating. Not afraid to say hey I'm nervous about this ot I'm not feeling strong in that. It's very refreshing! Thank you! You gave me the confidence to start my channel!

I never hear this talked about in pushing technique. : when you push back with “push foot” push forward with board foot. I remember when I unlocked that my pushing tripled instantly. Love the edits ✌🏻

Is there a reason why you don’t use a helmet and pads that much anymore? :)
@SarahParkMatott5 ай бұрын
Kind of 😃 I typically wear shin guards and wrist guards these days. I did stop wearing the helmet for flatground. Summer...2022 maybe...I felt sick after skating for 3 months and finally realized I had been getting heat exhaustion symptoms every session. And, removing the helmet did help. I still wear my helmet when skating ramps and skateparks. This trip was just an exception because I didn't have one with me. I was on an extended vacation with family. It wasn't even my skateboard haha

@@SarahParkMatott Alright 😊 I feel you. More stationary park stuff lets you sweat more or rather when you drive around in transition you have the wind giving you more cooling :)
@SarahParkMatott5 ай бұрын
@@oskararndt5605 ah totally, rolling around and the wind helps when you're park skating as opposed to a lot of the flatground I've done in the past--stationary under the sun haha
