Nice update! One little correction though: At least as far as the Japanese version goes, once you unlock the Napalm Gun by shooting only the boss in the first level, you don't need to do anything else in order to keep it. There is a rumour that beating the second level the way you mentioned makes the Napalm Gun upgradable, but I've done that and it's not the case.
@IKKIsama14

@@TomAznable Well observed! However, I believe you only lose the Napalm Gun if you actually die during the second level. The extra challenge of not getting hit/not destroying anything should enable the upgrade, but you don't have to do that in order to keep the weapon itself - I've never managed that steep challenge and always got to keep the Napalm.
@TomAznable
@TomAznable Жыл бұрын
@@rafaelkuhn5154 You're 100% correct on that - you definitely don't lose the Napalm unless you die on stage 2. It took me a few tries before I successfully unlocked the upgradable version, it's pretty tricky to not only avoid asteroids but those mines as well! There's one spot in particular where you drop down vertically a little before the boss where it's very easy to set off a mine.

You should consider uploading in at least 1440p. Even if you recorded the footage at 720p, using something like obs to upscale it to higher resolutions can really help on youtube. It's not like that upscale is producing any details that weren't there before, but 1440p and up on youtube gets a significantly higher bitrate. That means less artifacting and softness on edges. Two things that do not do old pixel graphics any justice at all. Keep up the good work dawg! I'm pretty sure we both started our channels around the same time. Insane how time flies.

Some corrections about the napalm weapon: - On Mission 1: DO NOT SHOOT ANY ENEMY, INCLUDING THE TURRETS OF THE BOSS. FIRE ONLY AT THE CENTER MASS OF THE BOSS. -After obtaining the napalm weapon in Mission 2, all you have to do to keep it, is finishing the mission. You can take damage, but if you lose a life in Mission 2, you don't keep the napalm weapon. -The napalm weapon is insanely powerful, it one-shot kills pretty much every enemy and kills even bosses with 4-5 well placed shots. The downside is: it doesn't have much of a range and you need to fire it like a mortar in an arch, in order to hit enemies who are far away. Also, the napalm weapon, if used too much, needs some time to reload, like a cool-down, so use it wisely. Oh and anothet thing: USE YOUR SHIELD. Don't try to play this game like a typical run and gun like Contra. Move slow, use the shield.

I almost beat assault suit leynos on ps4 once. One of the more difficult games I've played. You've inspired me to give it another go. Definitely going to check out that switch release too.

According to our lord and savior Gideon Zhi from AGTP - "Assault Suits Valken one hell of a lot of fun, and it's got really good story to back it up, too -- quite a lot of which was unfortunately lost on Konami, who released it as "Cybernator" in the US. They removed a good 30-60% of the text, a lot of text sequences, character portraits in the dialogue, reduced one character to simple cannon fodder, deleted a whole bunch of other characters, axed a cutscene in the final level, and generally made a mess of it. I have, in large part, fixed all that." So if you want to play the SNES version, definitely go with the original Valken with the translation patch from AGTP.

I rented this game, then bought this game (Well my parents rented/bought it for me lol. Back then I could only get like 1 game for my bday and 1 maybe 2 for xmas, and this was one of them.) What a great game. I had no idea you could get napalm throughout the game after lvl 2 if you didn't damage anything but the boss. Napalm was so OP when you got it though just playing regularly. What a fun game. Born in '87 beat this in Elementary School. Then again I also beat Mario Bros. in 90 or 91, but that was because my older brother showed me all the shortcuts lol. Still 3 years old beating Mario is pretty good. It's too bad I didn't capitalize on that intelligence lol.

It's a shame they got rid of all the portraits in the western version because they thought that the anime look would turn people off at the time. Funny how things change.

It really is one of the best Nintendo games. For everything this game did at the time, it could be considered the gold standard for a shoot ‘em up. Your ability to jump as he mention feels clunky because you’re a mech. Really adds to the feeling of fighting. The variety of weapons is also great. Power ups that you can find can be used on many different weapons, and you feel rewarded for exploring the level when that makes you stronger. The storyline is also pretty damn cool. You start out feeling like you’re just fighting in a war, but the little bits of dialogue and characters you meet give your soldier Jake personality. By the time you approach the final stage, it all blends together. You’re one of the last mech soldiers left on your ship, your ship enters the level looking absolutely thrashed to represent your brutal journey, and you’ve powered up your weapons to defeat the toughest enemies to come. I believe there is even a little romantic ending. When you complete the final level (the version where you don’t meet the big bad), you exit your busted mech and embrace the female communications officer that has been with you the entire journey. At least I assumed the two ended up together. Her starts out in the beginning as “just business”, but by the end she is genuinely fearful we might die. All of this packed into an hour.

I cannot imagine going back to the American release after playing the fan-translated Japanese version. Much like Bare Knuckle 3, the conversion was an unnecessary downgrade. Also notable that the director/programmer Hideo Suzuki and graphics lead Satoshi Nakai also worked on Front Mission:Gun Hazard, the spiritual sequel to Cybernator/Valken.

FUN FACT: since the original Cybernator video came out in December 2013, it's now old enough to legally drink (assuming you're reading this comment in or after December 2034)!

This is how I wished Vectorman played. Like this or Metal Warriors or Gun Hazard or Metal Storm. Anything but what we got. I was so disappointed in both Vectorman games. I know people love them but I loathe them both. Clearly my expectations were not where they should've been in order for me to enjoy these games for what they were. But they just felt like wasted potential to me. And going back and playing them has done them no favors in my eyes. Meh. C'est la vie.

I've always wondered why another (American) company, LucasArts, got to develop such a similar game, Metal Warriors.

Funny how you mentioned "Langriesser" for injust downloaded it on my PS4. I know its been out forawhile, but i never really looked that much into it even though it heavily resembles "Gemfire" (one of my all time favorite games), and i kniw why now because it came out just shy of Gemfire's release. Also, if you play MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries, let me know. I can use another lancemate to go mech stomping.

I know that you mostly do SNES stuff and sometimes Genesis but I can tell you would really love a game called Wild Dogs (on Steam and most platforms.) It's a Contra-like that is a bit more forgiving but very creative with it's varying levels and play styles. You reminded me of a specific part of it when you mentioned kamikaze-ing into an enemy ship and I am HIGHLY confident you would both love the game and bring some much needed attention to it as it's currently very obscure.

"The Adventures of Bayou Billy" was another NES game that mashed genres. For the most part, it's a side-scrolling beat-'em-up. Then it turns into a first-person shooter, and then it has a couple third-person driving stages. The FPS stages have that rare trait where if you run out of ammo: instant death. It makes sense since, with no bullets, you have nothing to defend yourself with, or, ironically, nothing to pick up more ammo with. There's even a still-shot of Bayou Billy getting blown away when you die in a FPS stage.

Are these the same people who made metal warriors? It looks extremely similar. I don’t know how I never heard of this game, but it looks cool. One of my favorite games for the SNES is Metal Warriors.. though I should specify, I never really committed to playing through the actual story mode. Instead, my brother and I played the sh!t out of the 2 player battle mode. It is soooo much fun battling each other’s mechs. But yeah, the mechs in this game look just like the ones in metal warriors. It’s unfortunate that this game evaded my radar as a kid.

I have loved this game since it's US release. I'm kind of sad we never really got any other parts of the series until much later. I didn't even know it was a series until a few years ago. This is my kind of mecha genre, stuff like this and VOTOMS, Macross, MS 8th, original Gundam, etc. The kind of gritty, military-style space operas with that good old 80's anime chunky mech aesthetic. I guess they don't do as well in the US, as it seems more people prefer sentai mecha shows or Evangelion and Escaflowne kind of stuff.

Also one of my snes favorites. I would love some modern entries into this series. And if you like this style of game check out Front Mission: Gun Hazard. It's very similar with RPG mechanics and a lot more mechs you can buy, pilot, equip, and upgrade.

This reminds me a lot of the Korean game, Interrupt/(Iron Blood). Which now that I compare the two, probably was a knockoff of Cybernator given the circumstances of exporting at the time.
