Fudan university is similar as Harvard or Stanford in US, China has an elite community, including Fudan university social circle,Tsinghua and Peking University social circle. You shall keep connection with your school mates, 10 or 15 years later after graduation, many of them will be Chinese politicians , RND researchers or top managers, which could be very helpful in case if you want to set up business in China. Not when I went to Fudan in 1988. Tsinghua’s ranking was lower than Fudan’s. Beida and Tsinghua had to lower entrance exam scores quite significantly for Shanghai applicants. I was in the national physics competitive final in Lanzhou. My whole team refused to even consider going to either place. I think in retaliation they skipped me when assembling the training camp for the international physics Olympiad. I had the silver medal, ranked No. 15. But they picked two candidates at the bottom of the silver medalists, no. 28 and no. 29. We complained, to no avail. One of the gold medalist came to Fudan. I think Fudan at the time had less of a reputation abroad than two other two. I did hurt my chances when I applied to America elite colleges. Tsinghua rose quickly after the government poured significant amount of money. But the Tsinghua graduates I found in the us seem to be very conventional, so so smart, not brilliant at all.

​@dereksbooks There was no discrimination. Asians in America screwed themselves into thinking black people were taking their spot. Even though white women benefit the most from Affirmitive action. They didn't realize that it was the legacy students who took the spots & now since Affirmitive action is gone, the legacy students will fill up those spots too. They actually thought it was about having high test scores & merit basedwhen it isn't. Now they can't blame black people when they don't get in to these schools. The tried to team up with racist whites to harm & blame blacks & the racist whites got the Asians out the way & there's nothing Asians can do about it now. That's their fault for siding with racist whites.

Nice job. I was at Fudan, Physics’88. (We label each class by matriculation year, not graduation year). The campus and the whole area is completely unrecognizable to me. You made me want to come back to Shanghai to visit.

I went back to see the qinghua campus after 4 years a few months ago. Really nostalgic. Brought back so many memories.

If you can go back and see it, try to do it as soon as possible. The Beijing authorities are planning to move universities out of Beijing to solve the severe traffic congestion in the city. Maybe one day, Tsinghua will move to Xiong'an New Area.

Great question. I actually attended Fudan from 2014-2016 on a scholarship. Specifically it was called the CSC SCHOLARSHIP and was from the Chinese government I think for foreigner students. It covered tuition, housing, and $500 a month stipend. Hope that helps!

all Chinese university are government ran and everything is heavily subsidized... typically... as long as you scored enough to make it to one of these university, you are basically good to go... you most likely don't have to worry too much about room and board, tuition or living expenses...
