Words can't really express how hype this game was at the time. It really was something else to be a Pokemon fan during this time. My only gripe with this game was the game speed; which at this point, was more of a Gen 4 problem as a whole

The way this generation of Pokemon made the fra chose feel complete is truly incredible to look back on. The roster was perfect. The atmosphere and music were great. And the pacing, while slow, it was still a fun time to experience

I was a freshman in high school when Platinum came out in 09 and I just remember coming home after school and going to my friends house down the road to play and trade with him. Such great memories! Also, Torterra line gotta be my #2 starter line. Behind Mudkip and right before Bulbasaur

This era of Pokemon was just the best friend everyone. You were either a teenager, a 10 year old like me, or middle schooler and we were all either going back to a new adventure or starting a brand new one. I mean there's always Legends Arceus and I recommend that one for all the Gen 4 lovers since it feels more of a remake than BDSP.

@@Brianycus late to responding but legends arceus made me upset mainly because it took their effort away from the actual gen 4 remakes. And I don’t wanna get too ranty but legends arceus doesn’t feel like a love letter to gen 4 to me. The staters are not the gen 4 ones. A lot of characters are ancestors of other gen characters. There’s not been a single regional variant or paradox Pokemon based on a gen 4 Pokemon in any game. They added another gen 5 genie enamorous instead of another lake trio member or something. The origin forms of dialga and Palkia are underwhelming compared to primals and mega rayquaza. I’ll play it eventually but I’m not happy it exists and it won’t make me feel better. Maybe ironically legends ZA will show tons of gen 4 love and I might get that instead. Anyhow sorry for ranting even though I said I wouldn’t.

Platinum was also my first game. As English is not my mother language, I didn’t really know what was going on storywise. This did not affect me too much… except for getting the egg from Cynthia in Eterna. I didn’t get I had to have a free spot in the party, so I got stuck in Eterna for months, but the experience was so cool I didn’t care, I leveled up like crazy in the old Chateau. When a friend managed to help me out, I had Pokémon up to level 40 hahaha

When you play your fist pokemon game, there are always things you are not sure you are even doing right, and that's okay. That's what makes these games so much fun because you are exploring a world you never had the chance to explore before.

I skipped 4th (and 5th) gen back in the day due to not having a DS, but also never had the interest to go back to it until recently. I tried playing SoulSilver a while ago because it was my dream from childhood and... god damn the wild pokemon level curve is terrible. But then I tried Platinum. Wow, this game is so much better than it's fame would have me believe. I guess it inherited some of the criticism that Diamond and Pearl received. I'm enjoying it a LOT now, and I understand why so many people still love SInnoh as a region. Even though my childhood gen still is and will remain Hoenn, I have a strong respect for Sinnoh now. Next in line, is to play Black/White in vanilla form, as the last time I tried that, was with an extensive romhack.

I actually just bought platinum 6 months ago and I love it along with soul silver. I see why people say it's good. I'm enjoying it. Also, I’m so dang glad that this game is only $100. Instead of $160 like Soul silver or heart gold. It took me 2 years to get all the Pokemon games that I wanted for the DS and 3DS. Getting the black and white series was the easiest to get….by accident 😆 but the hardest to get was soul silver, I had to go on a journey for that one. P.S I see why everyone loves Cynthia and I don’t blame you guys 😊👍

Thankfully there is a speed up fix now for Platinum that does let the game run at 60fps

While i love gen 4 and was playing it nonstop when it came out (i was around 15 at the time), as a fan since the RBY days i must say that for us gen 4 was very...mid..when it came out. Emerald had just taken our sh$% off and gen 4 really looked way too childish at first, and pretty basic. Many of our fandom fell off during that era and gen 5 and came back later due to the gen 6 fanservice and evolution. Nowadays, gen 4 and 5 really seem like a peak but back then they werent that much hype, because they looked like a repeated formula over and over and over again. Just a fun fact.

As a kid, Gen 4 was everything. We all had Platinum and HGSS and we would always play these whenever we can, trading, battling, or just watching in general. To me, that's what makes it peak, and also it felt complete.

"Flame-type" is called "Fire-type, "Magmagg" is called "Slugma", and "Donmel" is called "Numel" in the English versions. I have noticed that the "Wings" are called "Feathers" since Generation 8 to match the translation.
