It's insane to see someone as good as Poo who can go toe to toe with Mitch on a live stage, rust himself on a game to the point I'm about as comparable (in this video). I haven't ridden a bike in about 20 years and now I'm scared I won't be able to do it anymore.

Physical skill "memory" is a bit more powerful. Riding a bike is mostly about balance, once you know that it's easy enough to pick it back up even if you haven't done it in a very long time. As far as this memory goes, most video games are identical. You are reliant on more esoteric information that can be easily overwritten by other similar information especially if you play multiple games in the same franchise with similar gameplay.

Fun fact: Mario shrinking after being hit with the power up isn't BS. In the Japan version that's how the game was made. They changed it for the American version because they still thought it would be too hard for us 😊

About opening scene: in Japanese SMB3 you lose all power ups if you get hit. Played the hard mode and I didn't know until being an adult

Mario goes small in the title screen because in the Japan version if Mario is hit he reverts back to small Mario. Americans weren't having it...

SMB3 was one of the five to ten or so NES games we originally had growing up. The stage that always kept me from beating it originally was the world 8 mini-fortress because I always kept getting lost in its maze and at the time I didn't know you could use Jugem's Cloud to skip it, so I never bothered to save one. I first beat it legit once All-Stars came out on SNES, both skipping with the cloud and at least once playing through the mini-fortress after actually knowing which door led to the Boom-Boom fight. To this day, however, I still haven't closed the loop by beating the NES version yet, but I probably should even if just to satisfy my inner child.

Theory: Mario on the title screen shrinks to small Mario because it's Mario the actor getting hit, not the character in the play. Either way the head thing is pretty messed up.
