Fun to play around with these older cameras. Good review.

Good review and still have mine bought new from the first batch imported to the UK. I still use it now and again and prefer it to my too tiny RX100. Sadly there was no R2 with the ability to go to 200mm and 20+MP. Sadly we lost the laser focusing of the 828.A really fine all in one.

Thanks for this review, I even have a 200mm telephoto attachment and a 20mm wide angle attachment! I haven't found anything else on the internet about either attachment lens. Anyway, I took fantastic photos with them in Canada!

Interesting attachments! I'm learning a ton through these comments of add-ons, and various fun versions of this old R1! I should also take this camera on a Canada road trip (i live close to the border lol)

If you can find one for sale, ATG DSC-R1 IR, go for beyond $5,000.00. And the other is ATG DSC-R1 UV. Both are not cheap. Used by professionals like engineers, physicians & scientists. We had no problem using in Oymyakon's winter @ below -60!

Wow that is incredible! I tried to Google this version but very little info came up. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are some examples of work that these cameras would be used for?

@@MattsNotes Very good question that you have asked. Let's start with IR (infrared) & then UV (ultraviolet) This is one of ATG many cameras. As well all have known that the Hasselblad 500 series have flash syn to 500. Well, this model can flash sync up to 2,000. Meaning using with all speedlites & monolights. 1. IR images will sell more in color & much more in B&W. 2. Tripod is not required 3. What you see is what you get. No longer long shutter speed 4. With ATG IR flashes /or monolights (modified) & ATG IR lights, the camera can see and focus in total darkness! 5. Shoot sport indoors & weddings up to 2,000 flash sync, when flashes are not allowed. A UV images used by engineers, scientists & physicians to spot skin cancer, coverts & broken blood vessels. ATG is coming out a new camera that can sync 80,000. That's not bad for only $6,100.00. I have pre-paid for the ATG with IR at little over $9,000.00 that accept ATG/Sony/Sigma/other lenses. Have X sync (no more line scanning or first and second current) means no flagging & banding. ATG/Sony A9 III will be out March 2024. Sony trained many KZbin reviewers & writers to use "Global Shutter" I already have a couple ATG IR monolights from 80ws up to 2,000ws. And for videos, ATG says I can flood the light with IR light. And the camera will see & AF in total darkness. To test yours with any flash. Just turn the Shutter Speed dial pass 125. And be surprised. That's why this camera was discontinued due to problem with Nikon. Now, decade later ATG appears & world's first with X (global shutter) camera. ATG says HSS is history. ATG predicted 35mm format will cost, just for the body alone will pass, $6,000.00. At $6K, many beginners can't afford it.

Hello!!! My mother just gifted me this camera that she has had sitting in a closet for the past almost 20 years. I can’t seem to figure out if this camera can take video and if so, how? Thank you so much for your time!

Thanks for the question! The Sony R1 doesn't do video sadly, but it is a fantastic imaging camera

It was my first digital camera! only the best memories remain. I still use it sometimes, very nice colors.

Im thinking of buying this camera for filmmaking, is this good for videography as well?
@MattsNotesАй бұрын
This is NOT a good video camera! It doesn't have anything needed for video, nor does it do it. Whats your budget?

But what if we can pick one : R1 - (A37-57-58-65) - a55/580 - a3500 - (3N-5R-a5000). With kits + 1 one manual prime. What would you then prefer for walks? R1 still? 🤯my head when I think about that
@MattsNotes Жыл бұрын
I love all those options lol. I'd have to go with an alpha mount camera and maybe an old minolta prime!

The very small sensor of the 828 doesn’t bother you?

Low light is a bit challenging, but everything else is alright by me (well, aside from the ultra slow raw processing lol)
