Today I'm hoping back on the 2017 Yamaha XSR700 after having it sit in the garage for a while! I have a little more experience under my belt now, so I'm curious to see how this bike feels now. I'm still a beginner rider, but I'm getting better with each ride! Check out my second impression video on this motorcycle!

I bought the XSR700 brand new this year as my first bike. I am in love with it. It is mild mannered enough to start learning on and has plenty of bike to grow into. I ended up putting an R6 throttle tube on it (along with other little tid bits) and that improved the ride for me tremendously.

Great job! This just shows that a torque monster (as some say, most actually) can be ridden in a way (responsibly) that a beginner rider can start on and grow into it.

Great thanks for sharing. I’ve just bought a new one of these here in England. I did training/test on a MT07, fantastic bike, same bike, (almost) dressed in a different attire. XSR is timeless. Linear throttle, loads of engine breaking, good first (and only) bike as long as you’ve had some training like here in UK it’s 5/6/7 sessions and two tests but other countries are different but long as you’ve been out with an experienced rider several times on a mid weight bike then this is fine. Beautiful looking bike. Well done for the review!

I brought a '19 xsr700 about seven weeks ago as my first ever bike. In New Zealand it's a Learner Approved version so it is restricted via a throttle plate and only 655cc. It's a great bike learning to ride on it and I love its style and rideable nature. Looking forward to modding it (need a new exhaust) and riding more as soon as lockdown is over.

There’s something very likable about your videos. I think it’s your honesty and ability to laugh at yourself. Keep practicing and yes, you will LOVE riding with Jon. And others! That’s the greatest part of riding, the community. You’ll get it. And BTW you’re right...self cancelling turn signals should be standard. I had a 1986 Yamaha Radian “budget” bike at the time and it had those.

Really enjoying watching your progression, makes me think my wife may yet catch the riding bug ! If I can offer one tip on the indicators on metric bikes, you don't need to push them back to centre when turning them off. Just tap on the button in the middle and it cancels the turn signal. Safe riding !

Where I come from we have what I think is easily one of the most stringent bike licensing experience. What you want to try is always have your right foot feathering on the rear brake when moving off. This way you can always keep the bike under control. With this technique I am always confident of hopping on any bike.

The wheel base on that is only just over 55 inches so it should handle quite well. The Street Bob is just over 64 inches. 62 inches on the Vulcan 650. Learning on a lot of bikes is a good way to learn to ride. Did you ever drive a standard transmission car? I like gear indicators too.

For your right turns, just look ahead and look to your exit point then trust your body to take you there. That way you're not thinking about the turn just doing it. I had the same problem when I was riding. This will also prevent you from going way further out during your turn uncomfortably.

@@JackiesMotoGarage Thé tip I got from my instructor way back in the days, helped me out a lot. He said your head actuaaly needs to point at the wanted direction, not just looking. I also did notice it also helps to exagerate your head movement so the rest of your body will follow, certainly in the beginning. But everyone's different, just check what movement makes you most comfortable trying this. I like tilting my head a bit to the side (with full face helmet).

Have you ever tried to relax on the bike? Have you ever tried not to focus on everything and just ride it? You know, free as in freedom. Just twist this damn throttle and ride it to the sunset. It's so hard to watch you struggle that much, you overthink it waaaaay to much. Feel the flow and just RIDE IT god damn ;) Also get some speed, riding a bike at 20mph sucks big time. There is everything ok with the bike, it's not "hard to shift", it's not this or that. It's just a moden, extremely easy bike to ride. It's simple xsr 700. It's all about you, nothing about the bike. Really.
@JackiesMotoGarage
@JackiesMotoGarage 4 жыл бұрын
What I left out of the video is that I came home and mentioned to Jon how the shifting felt off. He then told me that it was indeed stiff because the bike had been sitting for quite some time in the garage. My videos are real life and my experience learning. I leave them raw and don't edit out my mistakes or what shows what it really truly is to be a new rider. Also, it would be really fun if I could head out and really give the bike some gas, but I can't head out and go faster because I have been waiting to get my license. That was all put on hold during quarantine so I'm just doing what I can to practice in the meantime.

They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided. (Quran 26 :205-207)

also you keep repeating "it's not a high speed review..." - yeah, daaa, we see that. You are barely moving.... Get real. You also repeat "it's fun bike to ride" - how do you know? You haven't really rode it yet... you used maybe 10% of it, all stressed out and stiff. You have no clue what "fun on a bike means", yet. I don't know, maybe bikes are not for everybody after all....

Just reminding new viewers that this is a beginners impression on the bike. What's cool about riding (and I'm sure you experienced this as a kid hopping on a bicycle for the first time) no matter how fast you are going or what your skill level is, you can ABSOLUTELY have fun on a motorcycle. Everyone starts out slow, and everyone progresses at their own rate. I definitely don't have to be rippin' down the freeway or going mach 10 around a track to have fun.
