Definitely need to make the Zen Master vs Phase II vs Helios! I've been considering the Zen Master and the Phase II for a fresh oil ball for league. I can use my Black Widow Ghost sanded to 3000 to start but I very small miss window, until the carry down/transition happens. Then game 2-3+ looks really good.

Well … for me, that’s easy. 1.) Zen Master - earliest 2.) Phase 2 - mid 3.) Helios - longest I think they all play on about the same oil volume … it’s just different shapes.

Phaze 2 over Zen master for 9/10 bowlers. Phaze 2 is WAY more versatile. Tried 3 different drillings on ZM and it was useless on house shot.

I don't know much about video editing but for your comparison or "motion" specific vids I think seeing a split screen shot showing the balls rolling simultaneously at the same spot on the lane would be beneficial to the eye. Like maybe do your 5 in zen master, then 5 in Phaze 2, then show a "good shot" from each side by side from the previous 5's. Just a thought, keep up the great content!

I’ve had a Phaze 2 for a couple months and didn’t care for it. I couldn’t understand the hype. Last Thursday at league I said “screw it” and decided I was going to figure out the ball, regardless of series. I went in with an open mind and shot 724 with two splits. The ball rolled and reacted beautifully. The point is - have an open mind and roll a ball with confidence and you may find a ball you once dismissed as a key to your arsenal.

Also as Luke Rosdahl has said a bunch before: you gotta let the covers "break in" a bit. From what I have seen, the Phaze II is somewhat quick off the friction out of the box. After some games on the cover it smooths out. My guess is that the Zen Master had a similar problem for Luis and now the reaction is more consistent.

Do a benchmark ball comparison, it might be a longer video but Zen Master vs P2 vs IQ Tour Solid vs Helios, especially explaining which ball may fit which type of players game better (rev/speed dominant, and/or high rev vs low rev players.) Very interesting. I’ve had the Zen Master since it was released and never got along with it for what I thought it would be ideal for, start the night off dig through the oil and create some area. Where it comes in play for me is late in the block when there’s a lot of friction and in from deep. I drilled my first Dark Code this last week and still not sold on it yet. Wanted something to replace my Altered and I don’t think it’s quite the ball. Great video! Love your stuff! #GoGlobal

I think the key will be throwing them on patterns you're likely to see in tournaments: challenge or sport patterns, as opposed to house patterns. Do the comparison on a couple of them, then you'll see how they compare and what kind of window they give you for tournaments.

Honestly, I think you just throw the ball better now and found the right layout for the DC. I've had balls that I really hated...one example the Roto Grip No Rules. Bought it at a tournament for a great price, but I just didn't match up. After a few surface changes and still nothing, I took it out of the bag. After a few lessons into week 4 of a sport shot practice league, I added it back for a different look, and boom!!! I ended up using it everywhere...even shot 300 with it. Sometimes it's definitely good to go give a ball a second chance. Great post!!!

Zen master looks amazing. Out of the 3 big symmetrics storm has it's definitely the earliest and smoothest of the 3. The P2 and Helios wanna cover boards more for me so the ZM wants to control the pocket more from straight

You bring up a great point about a ball that may work in shape but may not have the same versatility in other instances than another ball in the bag. Like you said the zen master vs. helios, if you can do more with the helios AND all the same moves of the zen master, then that is a better match up.

Storm likes to apply a box finish of 1500 polished, which can be skid/flippy. If you take off the polish and set the surface at 2000 or 3000, you will smooth out the down lane read while still getting the ball to finish. A good example is the Lights Out. Many bowlers complained about its reaction, but I changed the surface and and it worked.

@@LuisNapoles Follow up question - I have a Phaze III with about 75 games on it (I keep track of the number of games I bowl in an Excel spreadsheet for every ball I use). It has a R3S cover (polished) that is wrapped around the Velocity Core (symmetric). The coverstock appears to be dead. I've been resurfacing it with different polished surfaces, and different surfaces that are not polished - so far nothing has worked. I have some friends who noticed the same thing with other bowlers who own the same ball, i.e., the cover just died after little use. I'm wondering how that can happen. R3S was on the original Lock. I put nearly 400 games on it before I retired the ball. So how can a different ball with the same coverstock die before reaching 100 games of use? It just doesn't make any sense. Do you have any experience with this? Any suggestions?

The dark code is in my Arsenal rolled a 250 with it last week, really strong on the back end. Good ball overall in my opinion.

A buddy of mine got the Dark Code and didn't care for it since he was getting a lot of over/under. He hit it with 2000 and now it's awesome for him. The ball's a beast with the right surface, but it might take some experimentation to dial it in. The Zen Master also might require some playing with the surface. Another friend of mine who really comes up the back of his shots didn't like it since it just rolled out and puked for him. He had a hard time carrying 10 pins because of this. However, he took it to 4000 and all of a sudden the ball came alive for him. Still very controllable with a lot more energy retained.

I love my Zen Master. I just can’t play very straight with it. I have to be more left. Also hit it with a 2000 pad every 10-15 games. The only thing is it seems to break down the lanes really quick for me and I only get 8-12 frames out of it in league.

I love my Zen Master. I had the same issue with my Track Kinetic Platinum. I hated it. It set in the box for months. I took it out and went back to the pro shop and we figured out my thumb must of been swollen when I got it drilled so I was gripping it so hard so it wouldn't fall off my hand. It is now my favorite ball lol

Luis, me and my husband watch you every night. You and my husband are very similar in the way you play the lanes. I was wondering if you have the dual angle layout for your asymmetric and symmetric balls? He is consistently averaging between 205 and 210 in his leagues. He wants to go to having all his asyms drilled the same layout and same with his syms. We have a PSO that refuses to listen and we are switching to a new PSO. He loves your layouts but is use to seeing it in Mo Pinels numbers. It would help him out so much! I know we will be watching the comparison between the Pro-motion and Hy-road pearl tonight! I like my zen master when i throw at the ball demo i had the front 7 with it i bought it. I broke my high series with it they were a 776 and 752 with it. Since i bought the zen master my average was 193-198 range it went up to 208 but i bowl tonight. I been averaging 230 plus since I bought the zen master. The Zen master is my benchmark bowling ball it works gret on fresh oil where i bowl at

The dark code is a compliment to the altered reality. It's a bit cleaner so it comes off of it more downlane. That being said, it won't be better, just an addition to the arsenal.

I'm highly biased but the dark code is one of my top 3 balls right now lol. I think it's good to stay open to different balls though. I always give balls a chance in case I missed something before or my game has changed to open up to them. The only one I have that is like a hard no is the parallax effect. I just cannot get that ball to do anything I want.

I LOVE my Zen Master. It has never let me down. It is also the ball that I used to teach myself resurfacing. The logos and serial numbers are completely gone. But what's even better is that the Zen Master rocks for me with a 1500 grit resurface. I later hit it with a CTD pads. First 2000 grit, then 3000. It still ricks my game. I'm a lefty, with a weak arm and low revs, I turned to resurfacing in order to find the sweet spot on my balls. The Zen Master has never failed to impress. If I have ever found a ball that I would consider buying again, it's the 900 Global Zen Master. One other thing, the Zen Master is a solid. So far, me and solids seem to work really well. Maybe the house I bowl at has all the oil a solid uses. But me and polished balls just don't get along. Am really curious if there is an opinion as to why that may be. I had a Phase 3, but after it wore down, even a fresh resurface could not bring it back to life for me.

The dark code is a good ball it just was out classed by the altered and the alert. The zen master is just too much tires on a symmetric engine so no one could get much use on it without a lot of revs it was too niche. I've seen a power bowler shoot 279 and it gave him so much miss room because of it's strength. He has a ridiculously high rev rate and speed though. Same ball with less cover but still sanded solid would be money for me.

Biggest thing I've seen with your game over the course of this year, is your timing and balance at the foul line. You use to be so far out in front with your swing that you fell off balance a lot. Now you are on balance and the ball reaction speaks for itself. Release is super clean. That aside, I never watched your original reviews of these 2. I will say I'm not surprised you didn't like the zen master as that is a ball that seems to get along with very few. The dark code a tad surprised at though. But in this vid both looked good. Maybe they'll find a way into your tournament bag.

I have the Helios and its better than the zen master but I Changed my mind a bit on the Zen Master, Helios kept going instead of quitting on friction like the zen master because the Zen master is a bit smoother

For me the Helios is a little too clean for what it is. I prefer the Zen Master and the Phaze 2

I say try it and see what happens. What works for some people may not work for you and vice versa. You can always change the surface back the way it was 🙂

I took my zen to about 3000 and it was a much more favorable reaction for my game. Wanted it to smooth out earlier and it worked. Threw a ZM at a matchmaker last summer, it seemed a touch earlier than Zen with surface. Tragedy struck few weeks ago and Zen got chewed up in the pit. Drilled a new one with 4.5 inch pin instead of 4 inch and left it at box finish, like it much more now. Tighter flare rings and more usable on house shots

It's execution and timing of ball choice for the condition. But, if the execution isn't there ball choice doesn't matter.
