The BYD SEAL U DM-i is offered in three versions: Design, Comfort and Boost
As the top-of-the-range version, the SEAL U DM-i Design has two electric motors, one with 150 kW (204 hp) at the front and one with 120 kW (163 hp) at the rear, which are complemented by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 96 kW (131 hp) developed by the brand itself. The total maximum power of the system is 238 kW (324 hp) and the total maximum torque is 550 Nm. The BYD SEAL U DM-i Design has all-wheel drive and an efficient 18.3 kWh Blade Battery. Its combined cycle fuel consumption is 1.2 l/100 km, while in electric mode it is approved for 23.5 kWh/km. In terms of autonomy, in purely electric mode it reaches 70 km and in total 870 km (WLTP). The Design version, which is already on sale from 36,990 euros.
The Boost version, which represents the entry level to the SEAL U DM-i range, has a front-wheel drive hybrid system that combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, developing 72 kW (98 hp), and a 145 kW (197 hp) electric motor. Like the Design, it incorporates an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery. Its total combined power is 160 kW (218 hp), with a maximum torque of 300 Nm. Its combined cycle fuel consumption is only 0.9 l/100 km and the electric consumption in combined cycle is 21 kWh/km, which allows it to travel 80 km in 100% electric mode, with a total autonomy of 1,080 km (WLTP). Like the Design, it is already on sale, in this case from 29,990 euros, with its first deliveries also scheduled for August.
The Comfort version has the same combination of engines as the Boost, with a maximum combined power of 160 kW (218 hp), but with a higher capacity Blade Battery, which with 26.6 kWh reaches a 100% electric range of 125 km1 and a total range exceeding 1,100 km (WLTP).
The BYD SEAL U DM-i in all its versions has 2 driving modes: EV and HEV. In the first mode, the driver can select the “EV” mode for daily travel or urban traffic. In the second mode, the vehicle will mainly use the energy supplied by the battery. Only during acceleration will the gasoline engine provide additional power to the wheels to support the battery. The SEAL U DM-i seamlessly switches between the different modes, giving the driver the feeling of being behind the wheel of a 100% electric vehicle thanks to its advanced technology. In addition, the driver does not have to worry about the range or where to charge, since the engine charges the battery (adjustable between 25% and 70%), so electric driving is always available. The battery is also charged using regeneration technology.
The BYD SEAL U measures 4,775 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,670 mm high. With a 2,765 mm wheelbase and a completely flat floor design, it offers plenty of legroom for rear passengers, while ensuring particularly quiet operation thanks to its excellent NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels. The BYD SEAL U DM-i sets the pace with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 5.9 s, allowing the Design version to be much faster than petrol-powered models in its segment. All versions of the BYD SEAL U DM-i allow three-phase alternating current charging at 11 kW in alternating current and 18 kW in direct current. Thanks to this, the direct current charging time from 30 to 80 percent of the level is only 35 minutes.
Intelligent connectivity and infotainment are offered as standard, even remotely via a smartphone from the BYD App. BYD’s Intelligent Cockpit system is operated via the 15.6” electrically rotating touchscreen - which can be viewed in a horizontal or vertical position - while the digital instrumentation with a 12.3” LCD screen displays a wide variety of information for the driver. The Intelligent Cockpit System also offers 4G connectivity, built-in Spotify and HERE navigation, smartphone integration via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and the “Hi BYD” voice assistant.
To monitor traffic, warn the driver or even intervene in the event of a risk of an accident, the BYD SEAL U DM-i is equipped as standard with a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) using five radars and a centralised camera. The BYD SEAL U DM-i comes as standard with a full 6-year or 150,000 km manufacturer’s warranty, an 8-year or 200,000 km warranty for a battery capacity of at least 70%, as well as an 8-year or 150,000 km warranty for the electric motor.
