Blueberry plants need cutting back every year. Some times you will need to heavily cut for new stock to have room to grow.

Came across this video... hopefully it will help my mom and dad's blueberries that are well over 55 years old. My dad passed away 7 years ago and I've never known how to take care of them.

Thank you. Dad planted a couple blueberry plants at the mountain house years ago. He died and the plants just got big and non bearing (like yours). I'll prune them back this winter/early spring and see how they do in the next few years.

Thank you ! I received several pink lemonade plants from a friend that no longer wanted the . I have had them for 4-5 years and they have not done much of anything. Last fall I decided I’m cutting them back to about nothing and see what happens . I hope they do well ! Thank you so much !

How are they doing now? Any tips? I just moved to a property that has been neglected for 30 years. While exploring, I discovered a bunch of large blueberry bushes (small trees). I hope to revitalize them.

I planted 4 blueberries about 15 years ago. The last few years they’ve been looking dead and spindly (which might be because I haven’t been deep watering them as much and we’ve had some dry spells). I think they need some pruning. One really looks bad. It’s April and there’s lots of fruit on the branches that look healthy. I probably need to wait to prune them but looking into getting info. Can you do an update on these bushes? Should be 7 years since you pruned these. Thx.

Do u have any updates on your pruning? I just got 30 blueberry bushes and I had to prune them to 2’ I just wanted to know how long it will take for them to fruit again?😊

Usually you will get berries year 3. Keep pruning and get a good form. They will grow fine. Try 13-13-13 fertilizer, that will help

I have the same problem. The bushes we have are probably 50-60 years or older and have never been pruned. I was able to walk between them when i was a kid 40 years ago and now you cant even get underneath them or even come close to reaching the top. They still grow lots of leaves and berries but they're small The base chutes are probably as big as my wrist. Should i cut them at the height you have cut yours and is there a better time of year to do it or doesnt it matter. Thanks for the video

Send me some pictures at my email james@happyacresfarm.net. The root structure should allow you to cut them back pretty good, and then make new branches. Where are you located? Thanks for watching. I will post a picture of these plants. They grew 2 feet this summer and had plenty of berries.

Well I have 10 ,7 foot tall plants that are at least 50 plus years old and have been pruned very little .This year they have prouduced unbelievably heavy. So I think your wrong in cutting so heavy.

Any particular reason why you left some tall growth?
@ncfruitgrower2 жыл бұрын
I only pruned a few to show a viewer. My 2022 South orchard pruning I left a few high so I can get cuttings to root.
