Revival of the T-55 Tank. The second Life of a Toy.

This toy tank is the dream of every teenager in the USSR. But for most it was a pipe dream, because for many parents from the USSR it was quite expensive.
Picking up this toy, I understood why it is so expensive. Highly detailed aluminum parts, high quality plastic and a shooting gun!!!!
But today I came across this tank with a faulty cannon and no tracks, later I learned that it is rather difficult to find them intact in our time.
Repair process:
Having removed all the old paint with a wash, I very carefully degreased everything and painted it with a primer in two layers.
I don't know why, but I decided to draw this toy with a brush. I will say right away that it was quite difficult, I had to apply 4 layers with intermediate drying so that the color lay evenly.
For high-quality painting of the body, I had to remove all the wheels, and then remake the wheel axles on a lathe.
Rumor has it that this tank had only one drawback - its shells were lost on the very first day after unpacking)).
I don't know what the original shells for this tank looked like, so I made the ones I decided myself.
It was quite a difficult and interesting job, I did not sleep until 5 am to post the video today, now I am very tired, but I like it, because while I am typing this text, my son is playing with this tank and trying to “shoot” the cat .

Nope, they don't. Instead I can buy a remote controlled version that looks like the real thing and shoots 6mm BBs. And if I choose to I can also build it myself like a model kit.

i appreciate the effort you made when restoring this but a little tip for painting a toy or anything else that may be green or a lighter colour is that you should use an airbrush so the finished product does not have paint splotches around the object

I had the same tank as a child, but in my oldest memories when I remember it, it was already in the same condition as the one in the video: no tracks, no ammunition, a rusty firing mechanism and crooked wheels. I liked this tank very much despite the fact that it had always been broken.

@@ITBR_Restoration You're welcome!! Looks like you only used one layer of green if that's true might be better 2 or more coats As thin as it looked maybe 4 coats to get a very good coat. Maybe it was you're lights that made it look good try taking it outside to see if that makes different with the look. Just trying to think of things that might help you out next time.

Thanks for the support. Now, live, the tank looks great, and there are no brush stripes. Perhaps because of the bright light, or the paint is not completely dry, the tank looks completely different in the video. Apparently the paint I used is not photogenic)))

Good work! Respect! But why did you decide to use such a light color of paint? Soviet tanks were painted in a darker color called "protective green". It was a mixture of yellow, green and a little brown, not green and white.

It feels like this either could have used another coat or a coat of another color over it. This feels like a solid undercoat wich could help the top layer pop more

You're right, this paint doesn't look good on screen, it's much better live. I painted my next work using spray paint. It worked out pretty well. I'll post a new video in a couple of hours. I would be grateful if you take a look.

Снаряды были резиновые, вставлялись в задней части там отверстия, еще на башне был пластиковый пулемет. Когда растрелял пульки, резал карандаши и ими шмалял. Даже по ногам очень больно.

Gel paint remover would have been a better choice. Did you test the paint for lead? Painting without sanding the primer doesn't allow the final paint to adhere. Using a paint brush left a poor texture. Apologies; however, I think a better job would have been done using the right techniques and equipment.

If I understand, you're talking about doing stop motion animation. Not a bad idea. But it is so time consuming. And if you do it wrong, you have to start over. Better to just use the fishing line and get it over with.
