I perfer scotties generation of celica that was the best but i had a 2000 toyota solara and it was basically just a reskinned celica and that thing is 25 years old i sold it years ago to someone in my town theyre still driving it around. It was a coup. Toyota made good coups back in the day. I still have my complaints because the solara they would use plastic gears in the seats so if the gears werent cheap the seat wouldnt have malfunctioned for many more years and i sold it because it was hard to fix the seat. Durability is what matters to me. Coups are dope for just running aroind town and the solara was a coup but wed get in it the 4 of us i learned to drive in that car and its back seat was actually impressive compared to what they have today. It was almost a wraparound couch back there you sit back into the back seat it was semi luxurious i really was bumming i sold it. If toyota was still selling the 2000 model year generation solara id buy it brand new. I loved how we rode it until the timing belt busted and for like 850 bucks the mechanic repalced it the water pump etc and it was back on the road in a day because it was a non interference 4 cylinder non hybrid with a traditional 6 speed i think it was 😂 it was great. The steering was so light it made it a great car for the grocery parking lots. My 07 accord v6 had hydrolic power steeri g and jt felt good also but if the wheels werent moving just barely even then the wheel was hard to turn so you had to let of the brake slightly whime reversing and then crank your wheel hard and in the solara i could be not moving a milimeter and i could turn the wheel so easily it made it a very nice car to run errands in and i learned to drive in it. We had v8f150 and it wasnt as quality in terms of leaking oil when it turned 10 and the solara at 25 years old didnt leak oil...

Owned both a 1976 and 2002 Celica and they were equally economical, reliable and fun to drive. In my opinion killing off the Celica was biggest stupid mistake Toyota ever made after years of building a brand loyalty to that model. I remember those years when GM introduced the Saturn brand and Toyota followed with the Scion brand. The whole idea was to attract a newer younger generation of buyers and I ask you where are those marketing geniuses brands today? If Toyota can bring back the Celica maybe GM will one day follow suit and revive the Pontiac and Oldsmobile brands which in my opinion again were the best brands GM ever had.

This allowed the WRX and EVO to get their respective times in the spotlight.

I've said it in your s-fr video; there isn't so much space within the s-fr to supra price bracket to include all the cars and such, some of the current ones will he retired; if they make the mr2 a competitor for the future defunct cayman/boxter platform(70k+), then it will make sense to be higher up in price; the celica could replace the mid-lvl, which would mean a 40 to 60k car and the s-fr will take the space currently occupied by the gr86; the gr yaris will remain as it is because it still needs to be the wrc homologation car for the roads while the gr corolla is the american version of that same drivetrains(engine, gb, diffs); What I, personally, would love to see is having a coupe body dropped on the gr yaris chassis and drivetrain and call it a celica gt4(or gr4) and have it replace the gr yaris as their homologation car for wrc; not that I don't love the gr yaris..but, having a legacy name on it and a more desirable coupe body could make it even more successful to the general public and driving enthusiasts at the same time.

The Celica will replace the GR86. Been saying this since people were saying they wanted the G16E in the GR86. I believe the SFR will come to the US, Toyota will need an affordable sports car, since the Celica will be around $45k. Shame the MR2 is moving up in class, but hopefully it means better performance. Something like a Alfa 4C or Alpine A110 would be awesome. That inline 4 turbo sounds intriguing, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it had 400hp, especially after seeing what Toyota did with the G16E. It would suck to see the Supra go, since it would mean Toyota would only have 3-4 cylinder performance cars. Maybe that could mean Lexus will finally get the performance cars it NEEDS! Lexus can have a Inline 6 or V6 Supra spiritual successor, something below the LFR. Anyways hope I’m not disappointed.

they will retire the 86 and the supra and they will replace these two cars with 3 models: s-fr instead of the 86(from a price and market place pov), while the celica will be inserted below of the lvl of where the supra is now and the mr2 will go and compete with competitors such as cayman/boxter and co. Maybe things are coming full circle with the Celica being based off the current (very good driving dynamics) Camry chassis. I hope they keep the weight under the 86 as its too heavy with a ridiculous large engine. If it keeps true to its design evolution, the 8th gen Celica should be a FWD hatchback. my dad used to have a 6th gen celica but gave it to my older brother who also gave it to my older sister. I don't know if she still has it but I like the 6th gen celica because it reminds me of my childhood.

Listen, the 80s and 90s people bought sports cars because they were fun to drive. (It’s like a video game company making a video game that’s fun to play, not how much technology and money it took to create) Toyota, just like other car makers caved to yearly regulations, marketing trends and other formats that all manufacturers were doing. This created the boring cars we kinda have had for the past 20+ years. Each car looks the same from each manufacturer and have lost their focus…a fun car to drive that looks awesome. I just bought a GR86 which is amazing, but know there is an end date for the model - which makes it legendary for the brand! But for Toyota to bring back the classics is a great business model; keeping the brands “reputation” and “product” at the forefront every new vehicle conversation(s). I just hope they don’t go too crazy with eco everything and ruin the driving experience from the straight-forward easy to work on Toyota engineering.

I have two cars, and one which is my 2002 Celica. It is a midnight blue color, which you don't see a lot of Celica in this color, and it's still in farily good condition. I've really taken care of it. My Celica still gets compliments especially from the younger generations, some of whom wonder if it's a 'new car.' Everyone I know with a Celia absolutely loves their Celica, and I have to admit I'm a bit emotional about mine too. I would definitely consider a new Celica, and I hope Toyota doesn't change the look too much.

While this is good news, still looking forward to the MR2 more, my MR2 Spyder is getting long on the tooth. Also hope the MR2 is roomy enough for someone that is 6'4, the Spyder has so much room compared to other cars in the segment.

I can’t wait for this new MR2… I had a 1991 MR2 Turbo and selling it was one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in car related decisions. 😖 I currently have a GR Corolla Circuit Edition, but an MR2 would be nice sitting beside it along with my 5th Gen 4Runner 😊

Celica GT4 and MR2 Turbo shared the same engine, so it would make sense if they did the same thing now... I wouldn't expect them to have much more than 300hp either, mayve 350 to be a little more than the GR Corolla?

Hopefully they put the 2.0 turbo in the Lexus IS and TRD Camry. Would put the IS right in line with the BMW M340i/Audi S4.

I hope the MR2 is something similar to the Alpine A110, rather than a Porsche Boxster/Cayman. 3500lbs for the Celica is brutal, I was thinking it’d be around the same as the GR Yaris (2800lbs-ish). But I am excited for that 4 cylinder!. Man I hope they don’t get rid of the Supra. I would be happy if they move the Supra up class around the $100k mark, so they can finally build a “in-house” Supra. Maybe even sharing a platform with the new Lexus coupe.

"excited for the 4 cylinder" - these are sad times. Getting excited about shitbox 4 poppers, because the alternative is an even shittier 3-popper. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the 4 cylinder too... Never thought I'd say that.

The st205 weight at about 3100-3300 and output was at about 250hp with that 100 ron, 230ish lbs of torque. This one weighing in at only 200 more pounds with all the new safety features and stuff, 400hp and I'd imagine 375-400 lbs of torque as well? I'd say sounds lit!

Its doable since its styling is inspired by the prius and in terms of AWD, they can just take the prius drivetrain and make it into a two door celica, if they decide to go that route

The first generation Celica is my absolute dream car. A bumper switch with round headlamps like the Rocket Bunny Silvias would absolutely transform these into something similar to a modern Camaro or a Challenger.

The thing about the Eclipse though, was that the Eclipse was never sold in Japan until the 2004 Eclipse Spider came out and it was imported into the Japanese market, so the Celica definitely had a much larger global market reach than the Eclipse ever did, and even when the eclipse was sold in Japan it was sold as a limited edition. the Celica GT-Four will forever be one of my top favorite WRC cars ever produced, I'd have it right up there with the Ford Escort RS and the Subaru WRX STi on my list.

I cannot wait to see a GR Celica on the road or in car meets and race tracks (and in video games, obviously) Also, also, don't retire the GR86 or the Supra, but Toyota should make a performance sub-brand for all these sports cars and performance spec vehicles, call it the GR sub-brand with the MR2, Celica, Supra, GR86 and such as exclusively for this sub-brand (still part of Toyota with the Toyota badge), while the GR Yaris, Corolla and such are the performance spec cars, also a GR Camry is needed too, so yeah

I have the last generation Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205. It is a blast! It would make sense historically for the Celica to come back from the Camry platform since the Camry actually started from the Celica platform. It was just be really big and heavy. As for the Mr2 having more or less horsepower than the celica. That 3cyl 1.6 turbo has been turned upwards of 600hp. So they could get a lot of power out of the mr2 if they wanted to class it above the celica horsepower wise, and I'd assume price wise as well. Mercedez has the G45 AMG which from a 2ltr turbo can make upwards 450hp. So a 2ltr turbo making 400 isnt far fetched but will they, and why would they?
