$60k for a Celica?! The 2.0 GR Supra barely sold and they cancelled it. If true I’m going to need Toyota to make a sports car with the 300ps variant engine and sell it around $35k-42k
@vtecondeck30654 ай бұрын
The supra is a different story since bmw put the b58/s58 in many of their cars. For people that want b58/s58...there are many options. Imo Toyota should have never put the b58 in the supra and saved it for an engine they could develope to compete with the s58. Imo it ruined the supra name plate. The mk4 supra will always be more legendary than the mk5 supra regardless of the mk5 being more powerful.

Supra and Corolla dead? Nah Toyota isn't so stupid to kill off the Supra AGAIN just one generation after reviving it. Toyota needs to bring back the 2JZ engine back that's for sure but I think they're pretty aware of that. Plus, the fkn LOTUS EMIRA has a Toyota-sourced V6 engine. That's right a goddamn LOTUS has a Toyota engine on it. So how about Toyota use that same Lotus's engine and put it in the new Supra. It's not the 2JZ but damn it's an engine that is also in a LOTUS! What's not hype about that? And the GR Corolla, well come one its a corolla with a GR Yaris build. It's not that expensive to manufacture. I think the GR Yaris/Corolla will be dead when a new official WRC racing car comes out. Then there's probably gonna be a few years until they release new road-legal versions.

@@iManual6peed Toyota is known for its BIG lineup. While others brands try to keep their variety to a lower more "manageable" number, Toyota is just so big that they just release as many models as they want. So yeah, I do think the MR2 and the Celica can totally exist at the same time as the Supra. Besides, the Supra not selling well is just destiny at this point lol. The Supra NEVER sold well past the mk1. So I'd say that's completely normal there. It shouldn't be a problem tho cuz the money they make on Corollas, Camrys, and Rav4s alone is enough to make up for the production cost of the Supra. That's something that's always bothered me, when big brands kill off low sale cars bcs they don't sell but like BRUH, the other more popular models are carrying the brand already so why the f*ck are they worried that ONE model isn't selling as much!? If all brands did that they would all have become just like fkn Mitsubishi: lame, ugly crossovers and an econo-car that's been deemed the WORST new car you can buy but people but them anyway bcs they're cheap as f*ck. Toyota already came out of its "econo-car" era and is making a comeback into the sports car and off-road world. If they kill the Supra again, that whole momentum will be lost and people will switch from hating on the Supra to hating on Toyota for giving up so fkn quickly. Just take some funds from the Camry's big fat piggybank and bam! Easy! Supra can keep going for another decade regardless if it sells or not. And besides, it's not like the Celica and MR2 are gonna sell well either. Allow me to remind you that those were originally killed off bcs of low sales also. Same with the Lexus LFA, they're only bringing it back bcs people live the car NOW but back then nobody wanted to buy a supercar with a Toyota badge on it. It's just like Andrew Garfield said as a response to fans suddenly wanting him to return as Spider-Man after all these years. He said "WHERE THE F*CK WERE YOU ALL IN 2012???" (Meaning where the f*ck were all these fans when it actually mattered.) Same applies to the car world. People get upset when a model is discontinued bcs of low sales but like BRO! @@byhsu6140 yes, and has been out for a while. No “common” manufacturers (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, etc) have been able to pull this off in USA besides the Premium brand Mercedes. I think this type of power should be much more common and available but don’t know the realities the manufacturers face to homologate for sale in USA.

I'd so buy an MR2 but I know they will not send many to the US and dealerships are gonna mark this up to the wazoo.

Yea im super interested, but thinking about dealing with the dealership markups and all their fee’s im prolly not even gonna bother. When i was interested in a gr corolla toyota wanted me to enter a raffle to win the chance to buy the car over msrp…. What a joke.

I have a turbocharged 91 MR2 with 300whp. I don't care about 400+ hp or 4-wheel drive. I want it to be light and simple. We have enough super cars out there. The whole point of the MR2 is that it's light and affordable. The Lotus Elise and the Alfa Romeo 4C were good replacements, but the went extinct, and we can't get the Alpine A110 here.

Honestly all I want from Toyota is a TRD Camry with a manual transmission.... I mean why put a TRD badge on it and only make it in an automatic. Blows my mind.

Kirk - we need another comparison between the Toyota Celica, MR2, GR86, and Supra. At first glance, it looks like Toyota is just trying to grab more of the low to mid cost sport car market share. What type of audience is Toyota trying to target for each model?

MR2 is a cayman and boxter rival. Gr86 is a mx5 rival. Upcoming Celica luxury focused sports car.

Ima say this with full respect, fuck toyota rn. They have been shit show lately, from corporate to dealers, and they need to get their shit together. Im saying this as a toyota fan for a long time.

Lets talk about the awkward front end design of the forthcoming Honda Prelude. Its stealing design cues that its competitor the Celica is likely to have as well as the design shared by the Prius and other Toyota models... I like the look, but don't want my Honda ripping off the look of its direct competitor at Toyota.

I had a MKIV supra...I didn't buy the new one as it didn't have the same energy. Give me a GT4 Celica that looks great and has all the bells and whistles and we have a deal.

3:28 I have a 2024 NX250 on loan this weekend the Prius shifter is the worst thing I've ever experienced. Last night I thought I had it in drive and it was in reverse and I floored it backwards. Even in Manual mode with paddle shifters the transmission software locks you out of gears no matter the speed. Whatever transmission they use for either MR2 or Celica wouldn't even consider buying one with that shifter.

I was under the impression that Toyota was going to boost the horsepower in the Supra, making it their flagship, and the Celica and MR2 were going to be priced under the Supra...and that is how it should be...

I own an SW20, and I'd rather have a 4cyl base version and a V6 for higher trims. If I was buying a mid-engined sports car at that price point, I'd want more than a 4cyl. I would probably go look for a Lotus instead...
