Great Tutorial Chris. Just used a similar technique a few weeks ago. I recorded a singer/songwriter (Guitar/Vox) in my studio. There was bleed on both mics of course and during mixing, I used stem splitter just as you did. I ended up using all 4 tracks (the 2 original and the 2 splits). Just as you did, I created a new mix with the stems split out but mixed and used the original tracks and "feathered" them in to the split stems. Worked great and kept a live organic feel to the track but with much more mixing/plug-in control over each element!

Never thought of using stem splitting for a scenario like this - absolutely brilliant ..!!

That’s pretty fantastic. Clever use of the stem splitter. I’ll be trying that to remove room noise from vox in our rehearsal recordings. Nice!

For less artifacts just use the the bleed stem, turn phase and push it gently away on the original track... Just found your channel, keep up that great work 👍

now, THIS is a good use (although they have to improve artifacts) Thanks!

Thank you. Cris, could you please make one about how you put the video of the guy playing and singing in to Logic? Thanks

Record video of performance while recording the music. Trim video so it starts right at the first note of music. Save video. Then import video (File > Movie > Open Movie). [alternatively, don't trim video but sync up video with recorded audio in Logic: File > Project Settings > Movie > Position]

Hey Chris -- thoughts on how you could use this to separate out individual drums from overheads or a mixed down version of a drumkit? Possible you think?

It's really just a sophisticated frequency filter

It won't with an Intel machine. If you have an Apple silicon machine don't use Rossetta. It will appear in the "Distortion" subsection

The vocalist sounds a tiny bit flat in some spots. Flex pitching could clean that up.

Time I tried, the stuff left over in 'other' was phased mush. The were guitars, panned l-r. So, useless for me. I wanted to remix old cassette 2 tracks. Bass, vocals, and drums came out ok. Not the guitars.

Honestly I prefer the original, maybe the processing?

the mids right? but at least you could do effects & eq it more specifically still.

still way to many artifacts going on in stem splitter for much clean work.
