REVIVING A 1991 CHEVY K5 BLAZER! The Last Of The Square Body!

In episode 61 of ‘Cars, Shops & Collections’ we visit Dan Fox the owner of a 1991 Chevy K5 Blazer… The last year of the removable top and iconic square body design!
Dan is the owner of Fox Smokehouse BBQ in Boulder City, Nevada were you will find some of the best BBQ west of the Mississippi! Dan not only gives us a breakdown of his K5 Blazer but also takes us on ride along through the streets of Boulder City pointing out some of the most unique roadside attractions.
Prepare to be amazed as we lift the hood and reveal the heart of this beast…. A Cummins Diesel Engine! Dan and his crew consisting of Tyler Donnelly, Dennis Suey and Pete at Hot Rod Hill knocked this restoration out of the park! They brought a broken and ratty Chevrolet K5 Blazer back to life!

The only square body models that stopped being produced before 1991 were the regular cab pickups & medium dutys. In 1987, the half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups were finished, but the one ton regular cab pickups on the other hand were still in production up through 1989, & same with the medium dutys except they stayed in production up through 1990. Rewind to 1973 which was the first year for the square body models.

Beautiful paint job on this classic iconic square Body K5 Blazer V1500 with 3/4 ton axle running gear swap to support the weight of the 6BT cummins engine way better than the regular 6 lug half ton axles which are weaker not strong enough

One of the things you might want to look into is cross-over steering with the amount of lift you have. It eliminates bump steer that can be caused buy lifted square body Chevy trucks with the old push-me-pull you steering.

it kills me that ppl spend this much on a car or truck and don't take it off road or use it for its purpose! I'd be wheeling the fuck outa it! if you have the money to build it than you can fix it too! I would've rhino lined the whole under and floor to prevent damage!

I’m restoring one now and did exactly what you said about lining underneath. Mine was tore down completely like this one, everything stripped, epoxy primed and bed lined everywhere and inside,behind everything to prevent any rust. From the outside it looks like a show truck, but underneath is all business and with a purpose. It won’t be a mud truck (impossible to get it all out after) but it will be used in the dunes. The top is off most nice days too. It’s actually easy to do and I made it even easier by putting an electric winch in the roof of my garage to lift it off.
