I feel like the vinyl windows were too modern and looked cheap. The new windows are too modern and look expensive. Not sure that's an improvement! Could they have just painted the vinyl windows black and got a similar look for (almost) free?

Are PVC windows not a reasonable option? Is it possible a coat of some nice aged bronze paint would do wonders to the white window and door trim?
@g2024_4 жыл бұрын
Just looking at the potential for the kids to fall down where the floor ends before the window. I would’ve put glass flooring in the section between the end of the floor & the window frame. You’d get the light & the effect as if there was nothing there, but the safety of nothing or no one falling down that gap
@CherylSimser4 жыл бұрын
I was concerned about that as well, especially with the children.

Long corridors no no no. I'd leave the existing windows there, save money. Later you wouldn't notice and it wouldn't hurt so much financially. Later when you can afford it get the proper windows in. But it not my build. Fair dues to them.

$750,000 for the building originally and only $60,000 for restorations O boy, pure insanity. I would've never paid that much for that building, in the first place, nor would I have spent $30,000 pounds for windows that mad. Why couldn't they leave those windows in and paint the frames and later deal with them when they had their expenses under control. I'm curious to know what's it worth afterwards now that their finished the restoration is what I'd like to know? anyways, I think the David the Project Manager was driven mad, having to deal with this couple. He nailed it though, when he said, " a lot of artistic people have no common sense." and he was right.

I generally like your shows and all your input, but this time, George, you were too pushy. The windows they had were perfectly functional. George- Your the one that mentioned the windows, and you kept pushing them to go further into debt to achieve your vision for the building. It is nice to have a fantastically beautiful windows, but having the building dry and tight and functional is good enough if that is what you can afford. From a galloping horse, there was no difference!! The first windows looked fine and new ones weren't worth the added stress of more debt and spending money they didn't have. in FACT- after they added to their mortgage, you said that they could afford the new windows- NO THEY COULDNT AFFORD THEM- they went into DEBT for them. Paying cash without borrowing, now THAT is affording new windows. People are so used to being in debt, using their credit cards, that very few pay as they go now a days, but that is the best, less stressful way to live and make your money work for you!! How much did those windows cost them when you consider the interest they had to pay on them over the course of a 30 year mortgage!!!!!
@ericgrigorof15093 жыл бұрын
It's their money and they made their own decision. I wouldn't live in an industrial building if it didn't have soaring steel windows. That's the whole appeal.

Was there a reason why they couldn't wait on the windows? Once again modern design in a historic building. It appears the Europeans like the look of the 60's, yuck. Especially when they spent so much money on the windows and kept so much of the old features which they liked.
