What a wonderful video of this beautiful car. I love that Iain is not afraid to give it a good spanking when it's warmed up, drive it like it was meant to be driven, gave me goosebumps! What shines through in this series for me is a story of balance. A magical, three point approach, applied through vast knowledge and highly skilled hands. What can be done, what should be done. And possibly most impressively of all, when dealing with a car's provenance, originality and history, what should be left well alone. I've lost count the number of times I've watched original parts be given a new lease of life. Originality revived with such care and respect. A deftness of touch, the art of the possible. It takes time. It takes skill. It takes judgement. Knowing where to work, when to stop. Each car is different, all have a story to tell. These videos allow us a window into the TCW world. A world where the aim is to allow these wonderful machines to carry on telling their story,. To be driven and enjoyed without erasing their soul or all traces of the journeys that brought them here. It's a joy and a privilege to be able to glimpse a little of what it takes to make this happen.

Getting in that car looks painful AF. I got to drive an LP400 years ago when I purchase my Performante at a local dealership and it seemed so junky. Rattled a lot, lots of tranny whines and noises, car body creeks and weird noises, you feel every single pebble in the road. Then I drove my new Perf and it was night and day. But the Tach is such an iconic and beautiful car. You just gotta love them. I know I do! LoL Loved this video Sir. You explained everything so well and you all did amazing work on this treasured car. "This is a young man's game", and "My shadow is not getting any smaller"! Priceless, Iain. Another superb video, but I did find it strange that, in the garage, when you started the car up, it roared thunderously, but, when out on the road, and you opened the taps, the engine was as smooth as silk. Proof that 'warming up' is an essential part of the process of recommissioning.

I am from Piemonte. 0:14 Congrats on the pronunciation 👌 Countach in Piemontese literally means plague etc BUT the older generation use it mainly as an exclamation for OMG or GOSH or WOW etc. From the lips of the Maestro himself...... "When we made cars for the car shows, we worked at night and we were all tired, so we would joke around to keep our morale up. There was a profiler working with us who made the locks. He was two meters tall with two enormous hands, and he performed all the little jobs. He spoke almost only Piedmontese, didn’t even speak Italian. Piedmontese is much different from Italian and sounds like French. One of his most frequent exclamations was ‘countach’, which literally means plague, contagion, and is actually used more to express amazement or even admiration, like ‘goodness’. He had this habit. When we were working at night, to keep our morale up, there was a jousting spirit, so I said we could call it Countach, just as a joke, to say an exaggerated quip, without any conviction. There nearby was Bob Wallace, who assembled the mechanics - we always made the cars operational. At that time you could even roll into the car shows with the car running, which was marvelous. So jokingly I asked Bob Wallace how it sounded to an Anglo-Saxon ear. He said it in his own way, strangely. It worked. We immediately came up with the writing and stuck it on. But maybe the real suggestion was the idea of one of my co-workers, a young man who said let’s call it that. That is how the name was coined. This is the only true story behind this word.”

My parents were from Piemonte, the word countach itself literally means "contagion" like a disease. When used as an interjection, the two definitions you heard are not mutually exclusive. Think of "wow" and how you can use it in both a positive way to express admiration and in a negative way to express dismay.

This is also what it says on the Lamborghini website. Gandini says a Piedmontese lock maker at the factory kept using that word as an expression like "my goodness" and they said they were going to name the car Countach for a joke. Then someone else said well actually it sounds pretty cool so they did.

@@The_Schimpanski Sorry, I can't help you. I understand the language, but I don't write it. I don't think my parents could either, in fact very few people can versus the number that speak it. Blame it on decades of the Italian education system suppressing regional languages in favour of a standardized version of Italian. To this day, while the EU recognizes Piemonteis as a regional language that should be preserved, Italy does not.

What Iain really demonstrates well in these videos is the joy of an enthusiast. Run-of-the-mill KZbinrs feed on controversy, and love to talk about how awful certain characteristics are - without ever considering the era in which they were built, or the challenges surrounding the manufacturer at the time. But as Iain knows as well as every owner of an aging exotic, the faults are as exciting as the features, and they give the car a unique character that wins you over and consistently brings a smile to your face. Another great one, Iain!

I was at "Classic Cars & Coffee" in Perth, West Aussie last weekend and spotted a white 1976 Countach which looked & sounded amazing. I did my homework later and found it currently listed for sale on Car sales over here for AUD$220k and realised it was a replica based on an early Prova 88 Kit with custom tube chassis. Holds a Renault Rego with TVR 4 ltr V8 engine and is fully engineered. It looks like a pro build and stunning deap dish wheels & same for interior. Not the real deal which are worth a fortune, but whoever built it has aimed for a high standard. There were over 500 cars at the meet but this white Countach certainly pulled the crowd over over 1,000 like a magnet. It even outgunned the rare Pantera's and other rare exotic's that turned up and just as you say Iain they still command massive attention for sure (even replica's). I had one as a poster on my bedroom wall when i was young as my dream car and seeing that white one in the flesh last weekend was such a blast as it rumbled past me to find a parking spot. The exhaust note was sublime!!

I can almost smell the atmosphere of exhilaration in this clip all the way from Canberra, Australia. Great car and a master of the brand clearly at one with the car. The analogy with a Tesla's acceleration is apt as they may move like a scalded cat, but they lack any soul, nor red blood in their DNA. A v12, vs a battery... dearie me, its a no brainer: The Lamborghini has blood, guts and a visceral central nervous system and, looked like it fitted Iain like a glove...sticking out in five places! Thanks Iain, for your continued work. These video's along with Harry Metcalfe's, are surely food for motoring souls- even those of us with a pacemaker.

There's a simpler technique for getting in and out of the cars with smaller door opening or "cramped" interior. 1. enter with your rear end in first and be seated 2. rotate your right lower leg (in the left-hand-drive vehicles) to the horizontal position and outward from the car 3. turn your body toward the front while sliding the right leg underneath the steering column 4. lift the right leg slightly upward to clear the pedals and position the right foot onto the pedal 5. move the left leg toward the interior That's it. I learnt this technique from a physiotherapist who specialised in working with people who had the operations for hip replacement, knees, ankles, and such.

Iain. It was so funny as you inserted yourself into the car ......it was almost Tommy Cooper !! I must confess l'm very much on the fence with ceramic coating . When l restored my series 2 XJ6 in 2008 ( for my daughters wedding ) l was going to use 2 pack but unexpectedly painted it in cellulose . After flatting , polishing & waxing in 1 day ! (I used "Auto Glym " radiant wax polish . ) lt went on to win best paint in show at many shows . John , who purchased the car in 2009, brought it to a local show a few weeks ago and l was nearly emotional ....it looked as good as the day l sold it . The Countach sounded magnificent ! But could l hear a few body rattles ? The only V12 l owned was a 1978 XJS that l persuaded the owner to swap for my 1983 Vauxhall Cavalier in 1996 ! But you really cannnot compare it to the Italian V 12 's .....certainly not for sound ! Thankyou as always lain .

When I was a young lad, I saw those around and about in south Ken. Futuristic chariots. I'm in my mid fifties. But, when I'm an old man, that design will still look like a dream from the future. Utterly stunning. Thanks Iain. Every video is pure joy.

Been watching a lot of your videos today. So, let me get this right (whilst pinching myself). Tyrrell's Workshop has Ferruccio Lamborghini Ferrari (the reason he started Lamborghini) and they also have his Lamborghini Countach? That's mental! MEGA!

If you check the odometer when in view, it reads 6 thousand something. I am sure the conversion was right and Ian miss-spoke on the km reading

I remember going to Brent's (Australia) after school with friends, just to stare in awe at a new Countach on display in their window. There was nothing like it at the time, in fact, still a isn't.

Another beautiful vlog, the passion that you have for these very special cars (pieces of automotive art) is infectious. The view of the engine bay showing the throttle linkages moving was just gorgeous. Cheers

I cannot get enough of your videos because it seems like the only place to get a deep well balanced understanding of owning these beautiful cars. Thank you!
