for some reason I can hear the story that first inverted power chord tell its story, wow, Dave is the man!

I notice he solos with his bridge pickup in this. I do that too.

not uncommon. lots of people do so

There are a lot of bends in what he's doing here and they "scream" a lot better with the bridge pickup
@user-oy7gz5bf2h8 жыл бұрын
I had a friend in a metal band who taped his pickup switch to always be in the bridge position. When I asked him why, he simply responded: "Cause neck pickups sound like crap!". I switch pickups all the time, often mid-solo. It all depends on what I'm doing or what the mood is.

I just found this confusing to be honest - lack of a drum track to define the groove, probably.

And that's why theory bugs me. Why all this makes sense, and my slaughterhouse soundtrack solos are wrong? Yeah, they sound like ten pigs being murdered with a chainsaw... nevertheless.

The solo would sound better over regular 7th chords. I don't care for "tension and release" or any complicated and unnecessary reason to use those minor-maj7 chords. When something is shit, it is shit, no matter how much you try to disguise it as artsy stuff. I know my theory, i love Dave and I respect him, but you have to know when a song requires a certain feel given by the harmonic structure (chords), and that solo clearly was meant for a more melodic and easy chord progression.

Nicolas Arango Yeah it probably would have been more consistant with popular aesthetic, but if everyone followed that, there would be no metal music. People can tollerate different amounts off disonance but there's no set limit to what is acceptable.
