Btw when playing these games and cycling troops out use the ‘withdraw’ button at the bottom to prevent them getting shot in the flanks(and thus taking more damage/morale loss) as they withdraw, most of the time they will withdraw in the correct direction. Just something I’ve learned from UGCW Also presumably double clicking activates charge as well, which is probably what you did with the unit that went in seemingly by itself

I'm also a Rev War reenactor, and while I was excited for this game, I'm nervous now. Taking Battle Road and turning it into a British assault on a fixed position demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of that battle. As the first engagement of the game, I was hoping it would be the best researched. I would have preferred the battle start with 1 American company in Lexington, and use that as an explanation of movement controls and demonstration of the impact of morale. Then, fast forward to Acton and Concord militia attacking British forces at the North Bridge, followed by a race back to Lexington. Smith tries to reach Percy in Lexington, Americans try to destroy the column before they get there. From there, Americans and British try to out maneuver each other and reach Boston first. It would have been more dynamic and accurate than the linear slugging match we see here. Not to mention the fact that Smith's column was entirely light infantry and grenadiers.

I love the picture where the leader of the Massachusetts Patriots looks like Mel Gibson from the movie The Patriot. Does this game have the ability to set up ambushes with an element of surprise, in which you could call on the enemy to lay down their arms or die with honor? Accordingly, the movements of armies and supply convoys in the game could be subject to ambushes, including cavalry raids. Is there a way to ambush and surprise the enemy with less forces than he has? This game looks great!

I have UG Gettysburg and Civil War. Love them. Been so stoked for this game since announced. Played it after work and it's an absolute blast! The AI is impressive. There is A LOT to learn though via campaign. Excited to dive in this weekend. Great video man !

Released out of the blue. I wasn’t expecting it until the new year. I’ll probably wait for the steam release . Super excited to see your play through of this. I didn’t get to see your first impressions of UGCW. For whatever reason those early videos aren’t there. But I did like the later playthroughs, as they helped me get past some of the levels. Can’t wait to see more. Keep it up.

Wow - I would pay almost any amount to have them redo the ultimate general: Civil War with the same mechanics. I love the battles for UG:CW, but I CRAVE the detail campaign style.

I just decided to pick this up and I have to say I am insanely impressed. For a pre-early access release...this is incredibly well put together already. I've been playing for like 4 hours already today and havent run into a single bug, at least that i've noticed.

One mechanic that isn't very clear is that on the campaign map, charging into "melee" is the autoresolve equivalent. On the campaign map melee, or close combat as the game calls it, factors in both your units melee and shooting potential. Charging units with cannons on the campaign map can be very effective for example because of their high close combat stat. - If you stay at range your units are only lightly engaged or skirmishing so casualties are vey low. If you get multiple units firing at one you can rout it, but if you just want to get rid of a settlement garrison quick charge away.

Firearms is great for min/maxing. For a first playthrough I'd go Willpower. As Napoleon said, there will come a time when battle has a momentum of its own and the General must Will it to his favour.

Around 11 min mark you send a regiment to aid your left flank and have and 2-1, why not manuvure that supporting reg around his right and rout it before reforming your line?

And the reinforcements at the 15min mark on your left would have enabled you to seize the initiative on that flank if you desired to "roll 'em up"! Haha, I wrote that before I heard you say it, great minds think alike.

Your 2 starting units already seem to have "leveled" up. You should check all your units their stat cards. There were a few who got a new skill or ability... or whatever they call it in the game.

There are few games that manage to do both the operational and the tactical level of war properly, usually it's either or. Let alone make the tactical-level battles, their setup and objectives depend on what happens on the operational level. This one could really be it, they already have the tactical level well done from UGCW, and those mechanics should translate pretty well into this era.

I remember they originally stated when they released the “features sheet” of this game that they were going to model courier transit time when issuing orders over distance, and “freshness of intelligence” in regards to parts of the map you can’t actively observe. Did that stuff make it in?

You need to close half the distance. Staying at max range is getting maybe one kill per volley. You also didn't get the three supply drops.

Impossible to beat on normal difficulty. Brits have bigger army and fleet and they just keep taking my cities. I have barely enough time to survive until I get my engineering and logistics departments and then they just take over the map. I’m done for now, will wait for a patch or something

Hey pal great vid pal this looking awesome maybe the best experience for the AR. My question. If i buy the 50euros - dollars version etc etc that they have in the site you have the link are they gonna keep updating the game like the games you buy in Steam in early access and they update their games and they release at the end the final version of their games and you buy it cheaper that way or they are not gonna update this version and you will have to buy another version of the game again or on steam when they will have it in steam eventually. I will buy this version if they are gonna update it and this will be the the only money i will give is this the case or they are not gonna update it and stuff from this site??
