Keep in mind, though, the characters of Jack and Frank were completely different (as were those of Rose and April), plus the times were very different. In the 1910's, wives for the most part kept a low profile and did whatever their husbands told them to do. By the 1950's things were changing (values, etc.) and women were becoming more independent. Not saying Jack and Rose wouldn't have had their differences (of course they would have) but you can't compare Jack & Rose to Frank & April.
@kinndah25194 жыл бұрын
Jack and Rose were both Rebels in their own way. They're also ages of 17 and 20 where April and Frank are supposed to be well into their 30s or possibly even 40. It wouldn't be too far a stretch to compare them. I'm not one to do it, but I can see how their marriage could have ended up like this if it had taken a bad turn.
@coldhands66484 жыл бұрын
Plus, I always thought it sorta makes sense--in Titanic, Jack was all loose and carefree. Cut to him in adulthood, he'd be more inclined to the idea of settling down and playing it safe after a lifetime of being wild and unstable. On the opposite end, Rose had been constrained her whole life. She'd still have a deep desire well into her 30s/40s to explore the world and never settle for a lifestyle that makes her truly unhappy.

@ThisLeprechaunWrites4 жыл бұрын
He just told the simple truth and the truth is 'triggering' to a lot of people. Leo's character hid behind his wife's conditions because he hadn't the balls to risk everything and move to a brand new country. It's one of the easiest things in life to find any excuse to talk yourself out of anything that frightens you deep down. Leo's character was frightened of the responsibility and the unknown, his wife wasn't, and his character felt safer with the Status Quo, which made his wife so depressed, she gave up on not only their marriage but her life and the life of her baby inside her. Frank is the real immature one, the loser and the coward in this whole story, afraid of everything and uses Rachel and everything else around him - his job promotion as the excuses he needs to hide behind because he does not want to face the brutal truth of himself and how weak he really is, even though deep down he knows it, it terrifies him. Rachel was too mature for him and outgrew him mentally whilst he stayed the same and didn't evolve with her. That is why she fell out of love with him. She could no longer relate but was stuck, which would cause anyone that intelligent and ambitious to lose it. Yes, she went crazy but Frank drove her crazy in the end because she could see no way out and he'd trapped her. The poor girl should have made a one year plan, put money aside for herself, and then when the time was right, leave for Paris and leave him with the children. Sounds selfish but when you're in a relationship with a polar opposite, it can affect your mental health to the point of taking your life, so the most responsible thing for her to have done was to have had the baby, save aside parts of his new earnings and her money she could scrape together for a year into an account of her own and then when the time was right, book a flight and leave when the children were at school and he was at work. Abandoning her kids would be what would be best for them rather than them growing up with a mother like her who would only deteriorate mentally in her suburban jail and she would end up resenting them and potentially harming them. Sometimes you have to sort yourself out when you have a mental illness or an ambition that will cause mental illness if you don't at least try to fulfill it, which she had. What good are you to anyone, especially children if you're that ill and depressed? Plus, you have to save yourself sometimes when the life you choose may kill you. Frank would have eventually found someone on his maturity level and who is unambitious and wants a safe life, like the girl he was cheating with, so the children wouldn't have suffered as much if Rachel had left. But look, they suffered even more in the end when their own Mother killed herself, rather than have another sibling and a happy Mother living in Europe they could visit when they were old enough. So, life ain't black and white. In circumstances like these, sometimes it's best for the children and for the person to leave.
@ayeshasiddique14762 жыл бұрын
perfectly well said...Frank was a coward from the start. but I guess that April's death really did do a 360° turn on his entire married life version of himself, which I wholeheartedly liked seeing how much he finally regretted all his decisions (yea I know it sounds kinda sadistic 😭) and how at the end the hopeless emptiness managed to eat him up. yup he 99% deserved it
@-maru-chan Жыл бұрын
@@ayeshasiddique1476 I don't think it's fair to say that he is a coward, everyone wants stability. With that much of responsibility, having two children and one on the go is absolutely terrifying if u move to another country. Call it a coward thing, but what he did is save enough for their children. April is too selfish to hold onto her fantasy. Imagine having to risk your baby's life just for your own pleasure. "The real reason" was that Frank didn't want to be a stay-at-home dad and let April be the breadwinner and was hellbent on preventing that, even if it meant being stuck in depressing suburbia and a job he hates and the plastered smiles and the white picket fence. He just couldn't handle people seeing that he's not in charge in the family.
