I transposed the mellow sax (as guitar), drum, and bass section Tetragrammaton to MIDI and the way everything lines up is suuuper satisfying. That’d be great if they made a video on a part like that :)

Is the perfect fith functionally equivalent to the fourth ? is the major 2nd = mixolydian 7th ? minor 2nd and major 6th? ive heard something akin to this in music theory class and was wondering if you could clear it up?
@LukeBass10005 жыл бұрын
They are reflections of each other. Eg: C -> G is a fifth up but G -> C is a fourth down.
@orchidcolors5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how to best answer this, but inverted intervals aren't really functionally equivalent. What does happen is, if you're on middle C, then you go up by a major second, you're on D. If you are on middle C and go down a minor seventh, that's also D. I hope that helps, at least somewhat. :)

Does tool make this type of music working out the theory first, or in the feel?

Sambuddha Bajracharya Like they said they feel first ... then comes the theory or it’s already in their genes ... I’ll vote for 1 &3

I get it, but i don't at the same time. Like, is TOOL constructing the song like this on purpose? Or just like, jamming and then this is what happens? Either one is fine, however, the latter makes more sense to me.
