If youe believe, have faith n obey then no you can't lose your salvation. However if it's only lip speak and the hearts not involved then there was no salvation to begin with. Believing is obeying.. the whole ninle speaks of ppl not obeying him and the punishment that comes along with it. If only ppl would read their Bible. The 66 books. Then they'd know. Sadly they don't. John 3:16. Roman's 10: 9, 10. Works don't get you to heaven. Jesus does. John 14:6 Jesus says, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. Jesus said it!!! He's told you how to get to heaven.

Romans 3:28 was the closest verse in Scripture that seemed to prove Luther’s novel idea concerning justification. However, it lacked the all-important word alone that would have makes Luther’s sola doctrine true. Once again, though, rather than adjust his theology, Luther adjusted the Bible. In his translation of Romans, Luther added the word alone to verse 3:28 (making it say “man is justified by faith alone apart from the deeds of the law”) in order to make it appear that he had biblical support.

Through the Finished work of the cross, Jesus has given us the Grace of God. Forgiveness of sin and eternal salvation. The Grace of God; his free gift to believers. What amazes me is that people who claim to be Bible believing, Sola scriptura Christians...do not take literally the words of Jesus when in John 6, He said TRULY TRULY (Definition believe me, believe me) Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you have no life in you! Jewish law forbid the.Jews from eating the flesh of the sacrificed lambs with their blood. They said how could they give us His flesh and blood. Jesus said Does this shock you? And they left ...He didn't call them back, or say it was a joke. He had to let them leave. They saw two miracles...the loaves and fishes and Him walking on water. They believed what they could physically see but this required them to trust He was telling the truth and truly the Son of God. In human terms, we could never understand this, but it is by the Spirit we believe. St Paul said unless you discern Jesus Body and Blood you bring judgement on yourself. The Early Church Fathers, the disciples of Jesus, believed in real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. So when Jesus says Truly, Truly, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of God and drink His Blood you have no life. So unlike the 5000 disciples who left, I chose to believe Jesus and never leave because I know that I could never have a stronger relationship with our Lord than to receive Him in Holy Communion and to be in His Holy Presence in His Church.

@@andrewlancaster3198 St Paul often speaks of the WORKS of the Old Testament law. Here one is justified by faith: _“For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.”_ (Rom 3) St James however is speaking of the works of love and charity, in love of God and neighbor. Those works DO justify us as well. This confused the 16th Catholic Priest named Luther. _18 But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder. 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish fellow, that faith apart from works is barren? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by works, 23 and the scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?_ (Ja 2) Keep in mind, the works of the OT law did not exist in Abraham's day. He offered his Son, a work of love (obedience to God). And his faith was made complete by works. Works - justified both him AND Rahab. When one is justified, one is 100% saved. A faith devoid of works of love can not save you. _14 What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him?_ (Ja 2) And we already know that the works of the OT law can not save whatsoever. What counts is : _6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love_ A faith working in love. The greek word for faith, _pistis_ means BOTH faith and faithfulness. We have to be faithful having coming to that initial ascent of faith, the "I believe." Faithful to God, obeying the commandments, loving both him and our neighbor. _17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. You were better off as a Catholic. Luther added "alone" to justified by faith. It isn't in the original text. And Luther cut the Epistle of James from the Bible, because he didn't agree with it. So, Protestants don't have to address it. In addition, Catholicism has the Sacraments: look up the Scientific Analysis of Eucharistic Miracles and see why Jesus said that without the Eucharist you "have no life within you."

I don't believe that repentance and confession are an anathema to justification by faith. They are an on going part of any walk with God through Christ Jesus. Repentance is a gift, a wonderful gift in walking with the Holy Spirit. James talks of works SHOWING your faith and walk with God. It does not talk about being justified by works. Infact Paul talks about the law being given to show mankind its waywardness. The outward keeping of the 10 commandments does not equate to righteousness...Jesus upped the bar, it has to be the reality in your heart and we all need tge power of the Holy Spirut for that to become reality in us...David talked about God desiring truth in the inward parts. Abraham was justified through faith. Repentance is a wonderful GIFT!!!!....HALLELUJAH. I love scriptures that take the burden off...I can do nothing, NOTHING apart from Jesus and 'blessed are tge poor IN SPIRIT for theirs IS the Kingdom of Heaven. I have nothing in and of myself that makes me right with God but because He loved me and forgave me loads and loads I love Him and want to bless Him...to be cleansed, to live Holy as HE enables me to in wondrous just amazing fellowship with Him. He is awesome!!!!

Scripture and Tradition Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food and My blood is true drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me and I in him" (John 6:53-56). We all know that Jesus’ disciples struggled to accept his command to eat his flesh and drink his blood: “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” (John 6:60). Some of them even left him for it: “After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer walked with him” (v. 66). We also know that Jesus recognized their difficulty: “Do you take offense at this?” (v.61). Now, the question is, “Did Jesus attempt to ease the difficulty by clarifying their realistic understanding?”

It was. Jewish Passover. The Passover was done in remembrance of their departure from Egypt and how the angel passed over any home marked with the blood of the sacrificial lamb. DONE IN REMEMBRANCE. JESUS is then saying instead of remembering the sacrificed lamb, “Do this in remembrance of ME”. It is symbolic. Did the Israelites drink the actual blood of the lamb during Passover? No. Were Jesus and the disciples drinking His actual blood and His actual body at the Last Supper whilst He was sitting with them? No. Making food offering to Dieties and during blood was actions of pagans practiced. They just carried these pagan practices into the (counterfeit Christian) Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is the Antichrist System. Don’t be fooled. (Jews were prohibited specifically from drinking blood. Why would Jesus say drink my blood. God doesn’t change His Laws)

Wait a second, are you saying you havent read the early church fathers? Surely you should at the very least check out what they said, so that you are fully informed? I used to be protestant but God moved me towards the catholic church and then I read the church fathers. It wasnt solely because of the early fathers, it was a spiritual transformation, but the writings of the church fathers are astonishing. You cant just dismiss what they say. The word of God is number 1 for sure, but the early fathers and what they have written supports the bible. There is nothing in the early fathers writings that contradicts the bible(except those who were found to be heretics). What they wrote backs up the word of God and it also confirms that the church is inherently catholic. I'm not saying that protestantism is a heresy but its not the complete picture, its missing a lot of pieces. I know this experientially. When i go to mass I feel God's presence in the catholic church, if I go to a protestant service the presence of God is not there, Im sorry to say. The difference between the two services is one is alive the other is flat and lifeless. The protestant service, on the surface is very demonstrative, and appears to be lively, but its not.

Baptism gives us the Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity to dwell within us. And Baptism is how Jesus explains that we're "born-again" & is our Adoption as God's sons & daughters. Plus, Baptism Saves us, just as Circumcision previously had under the Old Covenant 1 Peter 3:21 - this is all taught by the Catholic Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, as recorded in the New Testament aka Written Tradition. Mark 16:16 2nd Confession: Jesus breathed on His Apostles, the 2nd time in human history God breathed on man, and shared with them the power given to Him by Our Father to either Forgive or Retain the sins of others. The Apostles, as we see in the book of Acts, each had successors, and as we see later in the New Testament, they established Bishops to oversee the local churches/parishes. This was done by the Apostles breathing on them. And just like the Apostles, the Bishops also had successors, down to this generation. And this is how we, who are Baptized, can receive forgiveness of any sins we have committed since becoming God's Adopted children. John 20:21-23. ALL because of Jesus!!! It was the Word of God that drew me to Catholicism - when I realized how the various Protestant sects could not even agree on how to interpret Scripture, and how they ignored and explained away much of Scripture, or refused to interpret it plainly and literally. When I began to see how many evangelical Protestant practices and beliefs were based on the traditions of men - and fairly recent ones at that - or on marketing research rather than on the Bible, I began to ask questions no Protestants could answer to my satisfaction. In addition, when I realized how much of anti-Catholic rhetoric was based on misinformation and historical inaccuracies, as well as a complete misrepresentation of Catholic theology and doctrine, I began to wonder about the integrity and knowledge of many Protestant preachers and apologists. Protestantism is so fractured, resulting in divisiveness, disagreement, and schism after schism. Is this what Christ prayed for in John 17? Is this movement, based on so much religious pride (“Our little group has the correct interpretation of Scripture and everyone else is wrong”.) possibly of God? Too many Protestants who aren’t filled with pride, thinking the Holy Spirit guides them into truth that others can’t grasp, instead embrace relativism - “This is my truth”. May God have mercy.

@@mitchellosmer1293 Ok, I try to clarify and correct the nonsense you wrote in your comment as short as possible. Firstly ALL CHURCH FATHERS you quote in your comment BELIEVED AND TAUGHT the REAL PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST WITH HIS FLESH AND BLOOD, no one of them taught the Last Supper has to be understood only symbolic, except of Tertullian. But he was the exception that confirmed the truth of the transubstantiation in the Eucharist. Clement of Alexandria called it a mystery and if he understood it only symbolic he wouldn't have said it's a mystery. They all believed in the transformation of the bread in the real flesh and blood of Jesus Christ. This was the uniform teaching of the the early church of Jesus Christ. Ignatius of Antioch wrote in the 1st century A.D. in chapter 7 of his epistle to the the Smyrnaeans AGAINST THE HERETICS the following: "They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess NOT THE EUCHARIST TO BE THE FLESH OF OUR SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again." This is the represetive faith about the Eucharist of the early church of Jesus Christ. I could quote many more Church Fathers than you who clearly believed in the transubstantiation beside those you aleady you cited. Just stop to lie. Secondly the Catholic Church exists since 33 A.D. NOT only 325 A.D. The emperor Constantine 1 declared only the faith of the Catholic Church that the emperors before him persecuted more or less strong for 300 years to the official religion of the Roman empire. Ignatius of Antioch who was martyred around 107 A.D. wrote in his epistle in chapter 8: "Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the CATHOLIC CHURCH." It clearly proves the Catholic Church existed already in the 1st century A.D. This are the historic facts not the nonsense you claim here. And in 2 Thessalonians 2: 15 Paul DIDN'T SPEAK of UNBIBLICAL MAN TRADITIONNS or TRADITIONS OF PHARISEES or of ROMAN CHURCH TRADITIONS but of the ORAL TRANSMITTED APOSTOLIC TRADITION which he clearly defended and demanded from the believers to hold on steady on it. It's just the opposite of what you claim here. Learn to read the Bible correctly before you are telling us such a nonsense. 1. There was no other church than of Christ the Catholic Church in the first 1000 years A.D. In this time the church consisted of the western (latin church) and the Eastern Church (orthodox). But it was 1 united church and not yet divided in a RCC and Orthodox Church. Protestantism and free churches didnn't exist at all. The characteristics of the true church of Christ are ONE faith, APOSTOLIC, the priests stands in the unbroken succession of the Apostles. All this lacks in the protestant churches as they are build on man made teachings and traditions. 2. Christ built up his visible church on earth on Peter. He renamed Simon in "Kephas", Aramaic word for "rock", in Greek "Petros", in English "Peter". He transfered to Peter the keys of the kindgom of heaven and ONLY HIM. Additionally he gave him the authority to bound and lose sins on earth and in heaven, this he also gave the other Apostles. And he promised Peter the gates of the hell won't prevail against the church. Matthew 16: 16 - 18. When Jesus made all this promises to Peter there didn't exist at all any Christian Church, for this reason he used the future tense. The Apostles begun to establish the churches only after the resurrection of Christ. And for about 1000 year A.D. there was no division in a RCC and Orthodox Church, it the ONE UNITED CATOLIC CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST. Of course the Roman church was at that time not yet seperated from the ONE UNITED Church of Christ. It's only logic that due to these historic facts the Bible doesn't speak of a RCC. Use your brain please. 3. There is also only ONE TRUE CHURCH. Yes the church is the body of Christ but this body is not divided in thousands of different denominations, with different doctrines and faith. The true church of Jesus Christ is APOSTOLIC and holds on the ORAL TRANSMITTED APOSTOLIC TRADITION, the teaching of JESUS CHRIST RESPECTIVELY HOLY SCRIPTURE since 2000 years, not man made traditions invented only far more than 1000 years A.D. The Bible says it clearly in Ephesians 4: 4 - 6. 4. Catholics and Orthodoxs are the first believers as there was only ONE church in the first 1000 years AD, this was the Catholic Church, consisting of the western (latin churches) and eastern (Orthodox Churches) united in 1 church not yet divided. This is a historic fact. 5. The pope is the head of the church. Christ built up his visible church on earth on Peter. He renamed Simon to "Kephas", Aramaic word for "rock", in Greek "Petros", in English "Peter" and on this rock, Peter he built up his church. He transfered to Peter the keys of the kindgom of heaven and ONLY HIM. Additionally he gave him the authority to bound and lose sins on earth and in heaven, this he also gave the other Apostles. So Jesus Christ himself laid the fundament of the papacy and determined Peter to be the head of the visible church on earth. Matthew 16: 16 - 18. 6. The meaning of the catholic doctrine outside the church no salvation is if someone comes through the grace of God to the convinction the the full truth is only to be found in the Catholic Church, he/she is obligated to join the Church of Christ. Because the Holy Spirit revealed it to him/her and if he/she refuses to voluntary and conscious to enter in Christ's Church though she/he knows the truth through the revelation of God he/she is obliged to follow the conscience. Otherwise he/she is deobeying the Holy Spirit and sins voluntary and conscious against the Holy Spirit and there is for this reason no salvation in this case. But it doesn't say only Catholics inherit the eternal life in Jesus Christ and even if somebody leaves the Catholic Church it doesn't signify necessarily this person goes to hell. Only God can judge righteous here. You should learn first what catholic doctrines mean. 10. / 11 / 12 / 13 Yes it took several hundred centuries until the papacy and the papal ministry developed as we know it today. The infallibity of the Pope applies only in one specific case when the Pope speaks ex cathedra meaning a question of morals or faith is defined devinitively as true for all time and can't be discussed anymore and is to be held by the whole church, see the keys of the kingdom of heaven Jesus gave Peter. Jesus Christ himself laid the foundation for this ministry in Matthew 16: 16 - 18. In all other cases he is NOT INFALLIBLE. As the Apostles had to build up Christ's church from zero, according to the order of the Lord because there was at their time no Christian faith and churches at their time it's logic that it needed time. And the Apostles switched already the Jewish Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday because Christ rose Sunday from the death. The Jewish Sabbath was a covenant commandment for the Jews of the OT and was valid only in the OT of the old covenant. Paul makes clear in different Scripture passages that the Jewish Sabbath is no more binding for the Christians in the new covenant Christ made with his blood on the cross. I don't know by heart the Bible passages. And this is also proven by the writings of the early church fathers. 14. The clergy of the RCC is not unbiblical because Jesus Christ never abolished the ordained priesthood. There are only different forms of the priesthood. Monks for example follows only the call they received from Jesus Christ to live only for him. They do what the rich young man refused to do when Jesus invited him to follow him in the gospel of Matthew, Luke and Mark. This is absolutely biblical and not at all unbiblical. 15. You can trace back ALL doctrines of the RCC and about 90% of the Orthodox Church until to the Apostles and their direct successors in an unbroken line. So the doctrines of the RCC are to 100% from the Traditions of Jesus, the Apostles and Holy Scripture. What you can't claim of the Protestant doctrines. They are pure man made doctrines without any biblical or apostolic fundament.

Never is it said of any church tradition that it, too, is God-breathed and infallible. (2) It is to Scripture that Jesus and the apostles appeal time after time in support or defense of their actions and teachings (Matthew 12:3, 5; 19:4; 22:31; Mark 12:10). There are over 60 verses in which you find “it is written...” used by Jesus and the apostles to support their teachings. (3) It is to the Scriptures that the church is commended in order to combat the error that was bound to come (Acts 20:32). Likewise, it was the written Word that was seen in the Old Testament as the source of truth upon which to base one’s life (Joshua 1:8; Deuteronomy 17:18-19; Psalm 1; Psalm 19:7-11; 119; etc.). Jesus said that one of the reasons that the Sadducees were in error concerning the resurrection is that they did not know the Scriptures (Mark 12:24). ----(5) Jesus equates the Scriptures with God’s Word (John 10:35). In contrast, when it comes to the religious traditions, He condemns some traditions because they contradict the written Word (Mark 7:1-13). Never does Jesus use religious tradition to support His actions or teachings. Before the writing of the New Testament, the Old Testament was the only inspired Scripture. However, there were literally hundreds of Jewish “traditions” recorded in the Talmud (a collection of commentary compiled by Jewish rabbis). Jesus and the apostles had both the Old Testament, and the Jewish tradition. Nowhere in Scripture does Jesus or any of the apostles appeal to the Jewish traditions. In contrast, Jesus and the apostles quote from or allude to the Old Testament hundreds of times. The Pharisees accused Jesus and the apostles of “breaking the traditions” (Matthew 15:2). Jesus responded with a rebuke: “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?” (Matthew 15:3). The manner in which Jesus and the apostles distinguished between the Scriptures and tradition is an example for the church. Jesus specifically rebukes treating the “commandments of men” as doctrines (Matthew 15:9). (6) It is Scripture that has the promise that it will never fail, that it will all be fulfilled. Again, never is this promise given to the traditions of the church (Psalm 119:89,152; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; Luke 21:33). (7) It is the Scriptures that are the instrument of the Holy Spirit and His means for conquering Satan and changing lives (Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:17). -----In other words, tradition CAN NOT contradict God's Words!!!!! FACT: Roman Catholic Church does not predate any Scriptures. It came in ad300s. It was made the official religion of Rome in ad380 by Theodosius. Scriptures was written by Jewish Christian Apostles and Jewish Prophets. Not Roman Catholics. Acts 9:31 says nothing of Roman Catholic Church. Stop misquoting. Roman Church doctrines came from its own man made traditions. Not from Jesus or Apostles or Scriptures. 95% of them are so. ----quote---. There was no other church than of Christ the Catholic Church in the first 1000 years A.D. unquote FACT: According to Jewish tradition, the Temple of Solomon, also known as "the First Temple," was built by King Solomon (circa 990-931 BCE) long ago on the spot where God created Adam, the first man. But the building was destroyed four hundred years later. THAT blows your lie right out!!!! -----quote----He transfered to Peter the keys of the kindgom of heaven and ONLY HIM. unquote Keys OF THE KINGDOM of Heaven---NOT KEYS TO HEAVEN!!! Jesus gave Peter “the keys of the kingdom of heaven,” not the keys to heaven.1 A key was a badge of authority ( Luke 11:52 ), and then as now was used to open doors. Peter used the keys Christ gave him to open the door to the Jews on the Day of Pentecost ( Acts 2 ), to the Samaritans after the preaching of Philip ( Acts 8:14-17 ), and to the Gentiles after the Lord had sent him a vision and an appeal from Cornelius ( Acts 10 ). -----quote---Additionally he gave him the authority to bound and lose sins on earth and in heaven, this he also gave the other Apostles. unquote Catholic Encyclopedia: The Pope: "The expressions binding and loosing here employed are derived from the current terminology of the Rabbinic schools. A doctor who declared a thing to be prohibited by the law was said to bind, for thereby he imposed an obligation on the conscience. He who declared it to be lawful was said to loose." ----quote---And he promised Peter the gates of the hell won't prevail against the church. Matthew 16: 16 - 18. unquote Yes--correct--means even Jesus' death will NOT stop the spreading HIS word. --Part 2 next:

This is why we go to Mass to worship and receive Him! He didn't tell His disciples He was Joking or clarify Himself. He let them leave. They trusted Him when they could see the physical miracles but not the one that required them to trust the Holy Spirit! A suggestion for what to do when talking to Catholics: Try some *humility.* Show some grace. What has always turned me off about evangelicals is exactly the arrogant, condescending attitude shown even in the title of this video. Then throw in the fact that we are routinely falsely accused of many things because so many evangelicals 'learn' about the Catholic faith from anti-Catholic bigots rather than going to the source and finding out what the Church *actually* teaches. God the Father wants UNITY among His children. He wants us feeding the poor and visiting the sick and bringing Christ to *those who don't know Him.* Instead evangelicals spend their time and energy fighting their own brothers and sisters. It's very sad and surely does not show me any light of Christ that would induce me to join their brand of Christian faith.

I made the ‘mistake’ digging into the meaning of the communion/Eucharist, and now there is no chance in joining a Protestant church again. It makes me kind of sad, actually. I was shocked that there exists no single good argument against the Eucharist tradition, only unknowing, false assumptions, and denial. And most people (including pastors) don’t even know that there exists a difference.

@@Supreme_Court. well, I can try to explain what bothers me. But should know, that I am not Roman Catholic, in fact I still belong to a International Baptist church. It just happens that I moved towns and my wife is in a Lutheran church that tries to align with the old church (=catholic, meaning ‘general’). They celebrate the Eucharist, and there exist theological books from this church that actually re-discover what has been known since 2000 years. I’m searching for the truth, but when the Protestant side has no good arguments for this very specific thematic, then I have to trust the side that has dozens of good arguments. I mean, who am I to judge? Here are some arguments that make sense to me. Keep in mind that I write this message out of love, not to look smart. 1. The old church and her traditions are important, very important. It was the old church that made the Bible canonic. Therefore, if we read Romans and Corinthians and wonder what this and that means, it can make sense to actually ask the church(es) that derived from these early communities. This is a presumption for everything. If we would not be interested in the early church, then why even open Acts and the letters? So we do not believe in Sola Scripta, because that would mean that everybody can interpret the Bible in his own way. 2. The church fathers believed in the Eucharist tradition. If you look into the archives (there exist English translations), you will find plenty of evidence in the Real-presence of Christ in the sacraments. There were disputes about other things, but the real-presence is like a red line. And you can trace this evidence back to the time of the Apostles themselves. That means, church fathers who were scholars of the Apostles, who instructed them. 3. God is a god of order, not of chaos. This is obvious in the Old Testament. And we assume that God does not change, so he still is a god of order. Just because we are not under the mosaic law does not mean that everybody can do whatever he thinks is right. Therefore, we assume that Jesus gave the apostles specific orders and instructions about how a church should be like, behave, be ordered, how Bishops etc. should be ordained, and about the communion. In fact, when Jesus appeared to Paul and he started to preach in Damascus, he eventually got back to Jerusalem to make sure that his gospel was in line with the one of the Apostles. So even Paul himself cared about the teaching of the Apostles and made sure there would be no contradictions and the gospels are aligning. 4. The Eucharist: the sacrifice is already made by Jesus. But we participate in that sacrifice (for real, literally) in the Eucharist. The priest blesses the wine and bread, and its the Holy Spirit who somehow (its a mystery) changes the bread and wine into Jesus’ (already sacrificed) flesh and blood. So, its the Holy Spirit who makes these things, the priest does not have superpowers or anything. 5. Deriving from this understanding, there are necessarily rules around of the Eucharist. It is celebrated frequently (like in the Bible), we take care that no bread or wine falls on the floor, and of course, you would never throw away the leftovers. In short, there is a sense of holiness. So it needs preparation from everybody, from the priest, the church, and the individuals that participate. 6. The Eucharist contains a lot: it is (also) a symbol, but further it nourishes the soul (kind of literally). 7. There are plenty of Bible verses that support this understanding. And also the Passah meal and the Jewish sacrificial tradition support it. But I’m not a theologian, so I will refrain to list all the Bible verses here. 8. Faith alone saves. But faith without works is dead. God has mercy, but that does not mean that you can do whatever YOU think is right. If I love my wife, there are certain that I should do regularly, to stay in touch with her and ‘prove’ my love. So, the works derive from the faith. 9. Even radical Protestant movements adopt certain doctrines from the Old Church that do not appear 1:1 in the Bible. E.g., the Holy Trinity. If we just read the Bible and ignore everything else, I am not sure if we would come up with the exact same picture of a 3-in-one God as now. These are some points that I tried to explain, which appear logic to me. As I said already, I am not Roman-Catholic and do not want to defend the RCC. There are other things I disagree with or I do not understand. And there are other things (like Baptism, or confession) where there are good arguments on both sides. Just personally, I can find no good arguments against the Eucharist, also not in this video here. Additionally, I never really could make sense of the communion until now. I prefer the deeper meaning. If we degrade the communion to solely symbolism, then why even celebrate it? Why did Jesus command it? I hope some of the points can make sense. Please let me know what you think. Have a good week!

Most, if not all, protestants downgraded the Holiness of God's Cleanines and HIS hatred toward sin, when they attack His Mother by stripping off her holiness bestowed upon her by God's grace. Who would want to have his/her beloved son being laid in a filthy vessel? Does 'everything with God is possible ' means nothing at all? logical reasoning tells us because God is holy, then it's safe to say that HIS "vessel " must be holy, too. Mary died sinless because she is holy.

They greet her countless times each day with the angelic greeting, "Hail, Mary", while prostrating themselves before her, begging her as a favour to honour them with one of her requests. According to St. Augustine, even St. Michael, though prince of all the heavenly court, is the most eager of all the angels to honour her and lead others to honour her. This is an example of an apostate that the apostle Paul warned about in the LORD'S Holy Word. The true church is not a man-made denomination, it is simply the Body of Christ. At 33:48j... Mr Gendron states, concerning justification, - It declares the inflexible righteousness of God as the Judge who must punish every sin that has ever been committed by everyone who has ever lived. - The only way condemned sinners can be justified is through faith in the sin-bearing, substitutionary death and resurrection of Christ alone who satisfied divine justice. -Justification is the change of one's legal status before God whereby a condemned sinner has been acquitted and declared righteous. (Rom. 5:12-21). -Justification is instantaneous (Romans 4:3) -The Bible says justification is by faith in what God accomplished in Christ (Rom. 5:1) -Justification is permanent and is never lost by sin. The legal status of a justified man is a unchangeable as the righteousness of Christ (Heb 10:14). -Justification is the imputation of Christ's completed righteousness to the justified (2 Cor.5:21; Rom.4:5) The major problem here is that none of these words are the words of scripture. So is Mr. Gendron establishing himself as the "magisterium" for the church? Does Mr. Gendron have teaching authority? Where does Mr. Gendron's authority come from to make these statements?

Are we judged by faith or works? James says, “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” Notice how he begins with “You see…” James is saying that the way we can see (with our eyes) whether or not someone has true faith is through their visible works.Jan 28, 2020 What counts as works in the Bible? In Christian theology, good works, or simply works, are a person's (exterior) actions and deeds that align with the moral teachings, emphasizing compassion, charity, kindness and adherence to biblical principles, in contrast to inner qualities such as grace or faith. What are examples of work in the Bible? Consider that Jesus' parables often appeal to and include general examples of work: sowing, reaping, buying, selling, fishing, shepherding, investing, etc. Some familiar biblical passages with teachings about work include: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)Nov 21, 2016

@@Crucian1 After my conversion to the Lord and then 2 years of intensive Bible study and partly Bible school, I always found some things strange, such as the constant dispute over the certainty of salvation, the whole rapture thing and many other "secondary matters", which is why many even deny each other's salvation. All refer to the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, but everyone has an other understanding... than the constant theme of rebirth... One of the first questions that fell every time, whether you were reborn; then you would have the salvation for sure And if you fall off, what the Bible warns of continuously; then you were never reborn again!! What a logic.... The rapture and the great unlogic behind everything always floated in the back of my mind In addition, there were the countless "fights" for the understanding of the Trinity and the question of the deity of Jesus That alone was unbelievable for me: 2000 years of Christianity and you still can't know if Jesus is God? What is that? Then reference is gladly made to the first Council 325 and a few Church Father quotes to prove the Trinity, where it is then sporadically quoted from it; the rest of the early fathers is supposed to be false already there?!?! And then alone this Sola Scriptura is illogical; the Bible just didn't fall from heaven... Without a early church we would never have a scripture; the early church had not an New Testament, only the Septuagint after some hunderts of years a canon was made an every church had the same scriptures; before that there was not a canon which belongs to it and which not for example many churches had read the epistle of Clemens or the Shepard of Hermas as scripture; others do not believe in the Revelation of John; after years the church decided which scriptures belongs to the Bible and which not Ahh... I could tell so much more, but that would be more than beyond the scope... In any case, all this led to the fact that I could no longer know myself what is true... I was very confused... I prayed to God on my knees because i frightended to lose my faith... Then I decided to read the church fathers myself (especially the first 2 centuries, later I didn't want to go to be close to the first Christian) and I was shocked!!! I read about the Eucharist and the episcopal order, about the origin of the Gospels and all the traditions of the first Christians, etc. It was simply unbelievable how brazenly cherry picking is practised with the church fathers today... if you haven't read it yourself, you won't believe it I understand that a lot of people don't know church history and therefore don't know it (I was one of them) But all the learned Bible teachers, many very well-known here on Yt, whom I very much appreciate / appreciated; you can't tell me that everyone is so blinded.... I feel cheated and lied to I know that there are many wonderful real believers (come from a small fraternal church with many great brothers) and according to Catholic church doctrine, even such people can be saved if they have not recognised the true church (on the other hand, for many evangelicals, such a view would be difficult) However, I have recognised them and am incredibly happy and have found my peace🙏 You should just think about what the Reformation brought? 3 people who contradicted each other in so many things and partly dealed salvation to each other, should be a hearing of God??? read abou them for yourself and you will see it!Whats the logic; Our God (who promised to preserve his church!) Has blinded people for 1500 years, and then sent 3 reformers, who all have different views, in order to then uncover the truth??? And what are the fruits 500 years later???? That sounds almost like the neverending Islam story where 600 years later the Quran came.... It's just sad... I wish you all the best and God's rich blessings🙏

Also Catholics believe that every Holy Mass places us right back at Calvary. Every time. Not a different Calvary but the one and only time.. Also John 6 verses 22-66? The Lord talks about His body and blood and it is so important that the Lord repeats it over and over.. If you look at the new testiment you can see the start and movement of the early church.. And the institution of the Eucharist when at the breaking of bread their eyes were opened and He varnished from their sight, this shows Jesus is really and substantially present in the Eucharist which according to the Lord in John 6 22-66 gives us eternal life? I also trust the lord's word about His Church that not even the gates of hell would prevail against Her.. Let God be true and every man be aliar? Also didn't the Lord allow Himself to be Baptisted by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit came down on the Lord and a voice of the Father came from Heaven, say this is my beloved in whom I am well pleased So I will do as my Lord does. Baptism is a must and to live that baptismal vow.. A tree is known by its fruit? So James states faith without good works is Dead? Also doesn't the Lord quote macabre when saying it is good and righteous to pray for the dead as it losens them from their chains? Isn't that alluding to a temporary place of purification ie purgatory? Also Scripture is profitable for doctrine ie the Church of Christ to teach with and also as the Lord said to His Church what you shall bind on earth is considered bound in Heaven and what you shall free on earth shall be considered freed in Heaven. What sins you abstain they are abstained and what sins you forgive they are forgiven? That there is confession sacrament instituted by the Lord.. I trust in Him. I pray this might have some bearing on folks. Who wrongly see the Lords own church and flock as some thing else.. Godbless you all.. Kindest regards Vinn.. @@mitchellosmer1293 Initially, the apostles handed on the Faith orally-by preaching- but with time some of them and their associates wrote the New Testament documents, which together with the Old Testament comprise Sacred Scripture. Since Scripture has been handed down to us from the apostles, it is the inspired, written part of Sacred Tradition. Whether or not an item of Tradition was written in Scripture, it is still important and binding. Thus the New Testament exhorts the reader to maintain Sacred Tradition (1 Cor. 11:2; 2 Thess. 3:6), and in 2 Thessalonians 2:15, Paul tells his readers to “stand firm and hold to the Traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter.”

He even goes so far as to order, “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us” (2 Thess. 3:6). To make sure that the apostolic tradition would be passed down after the deaths of the apostles, Paul told Timothy, “[W]hat you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:2). In this passage he refers to the first four generations of apostolic succession-his own generation, Timothy’s generation, the generation Timothy will teach, and the generation they in turn will teach. The early Church Fathers, who were links in that chain of succession, recognized the necessity of the traditions that had been handed down from the apostles and guarded them scrupulously, as the following quotations show.

Probably because it was the Catholic/Orthodox church that gave us the Bible… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? Baptism Saves us & Jesus went to Purgatory aka prison to preach to the souls of the dead - 1 Peter 3:18-21 These & so many other parts of the Bible just completely ignored by Protestant Pastors & left out of their sermons or totally twisted from the plain text reading of the passages. Reading the Bible will lead anyone to the Catholic Church because it teaches things that are exclusively Catholic.

The Bible is the story of Yahweh's fulfilled plan of redemption given exclusively to ancient Israelites cursed with the Old Covenant Law of sin and death and pertains to no one alive today, soteriologically and eschatologically speaking. Here's more... If you believe the Bible, then you'd have to agree with Jesus in Matthew 15:24, that he only came for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. You'd have to agree with Jesus in Matthew 5:18, that no jot nor tittle of the Old Covenant Law would pass away until the Old Covenant system, temple and people associated with it (what Jews referred to as "heaven and earth") passed away. You'd have to agree with history, that the Old Covenant system, temple and people associated with it passed away in AD70. You'd have to agree with Paul, who said in Romans 5:13, "Where there is no (Old Covenant) Law, sin is not taken into account." This of course means that salvation was only needed by those who had sin taken into account, which is not us today. You'd also have to agree with Hebrews 9:15, that redemption was only for those who sinned under the first covenant, which again...is not us today. The bitter pill of truth is that nobody has been saved nor redeemed for nearly two thousand years. The "church today" has been in a massive error; a complete hijacking of ancient Israel's exclusive redemptive narrative, the Bible. "But...but...I'm a gentile!" Are you? The gentiles Paul and the disciples were preaching to were either Greek converts to Judaism or the elect diaspora, grafted-in descendants of the tribes of Israel who had been dispersed among the nations. Through the ministry of the disciple's great commission, they were called out from the nations to again be a holy nation of kings and priests, sealed for the day of redemption, which only they lived to see. Nobody today is a gentile of that sort. Today's self-appointed, self-professing "Christians" have been hoodwinked into believing they're sinners under a law that passed away, and need a savior who said he came for someone else, who will save them from a sin that's already been removed, and a judgement that already happened and allow them into a covenant that was made with someone else. The fact is, we today were never and are not part of ancient Israel's exclusive redemptive narrative, the Bible. ~Michael Bradley

If you are Baptist, Catholic, Atheist, Buddhist, you must not die with an unrepentant mortal (serious) sin. And everyone around the world knows what is serious wrong. The Ten Commandments are written in the hearts of human beings. Merely asking forgiveness on one's death bed will obtain God's forgiveness. If you are wrong theologically by zagging when you should have zinged, you will not be sent to hell. This mild mannered act of this ex-Catholic doesn't seem to understand this. Perhaps you can answer the questions below for your brother. If you want to convince him the Catholic Church is wrong on the Eucharist AND all of Christianity wrong as well for over 1500 years, then answering these questions is necessary. I've asked Mike repeatedly to answer them but he avoids them, over and over avoids them. 1. Prove that your fallible interpretation of scripture is right, that Jesus - scripture - was speaking symbolically ONLY when saying : 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 2. Cite who in the first 1,500 years of Christianity interpreted scripture as you do, that the bread and wine are symbolic or figurative ONLY? 3. Explain how could Christendom have error'd so fast, so universally on this point? 4. Explain why one should follow the fallible gospel of Mike and not all of Christendom for those first 1,000 plus years? 5. Explain why one should not trust our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who said the Church is the Pillar of Truth, that the Church is the Bulwark of Truth, and that the Church is where the manifold wisdom of God is made known? 6. Explain how and why Jesus was undependable, and that he lied when he said that he would lead his church to ALL truth? 7. Admit that you are fallible 8. Admit that since you are fallible, you could be in error with your personal and fallible interpretation of scripture, and the Catholic Church right. 9. Explain how it is that you trust that your New Testament canon is right, when it was decided 100% by the 4th c Catholic Church, Catholic Bishops who would ALL disagree with your interpretation of scripture repeatedly?

Love your lies which proves you never read the catechism nor open a bible to the Commandments If you’re ever worried about loving the blessed Virgin Mary too much don’t be, you can never love her more than Jesus does.” - St Maximilian Kolbe Mary does not take away from the redemptive work of Christ nor does she add to it. If you want proof that Christ's redemptive work is perfect look to exhibit A- The blessed virgin Mary. yup Your mother loves the scripture you hate Mary as the first Person To say Yes to Gods plan for redemption Mary Was the First person to say thy will Be done Mary thru who the WORD was made Flesh The words of the first part of the Hail Mary are words addressed to her by the angel Gabriel and her relative Elizabeth. The second part is merely a request for the mother of God to pray for us. But most important of all: the whole point (the context) of the Hail Mary is not Mary but the incarnation of Jesus. Without the incarnation, we would have no Our Father. If Jesus had not taken flesh in her womb, we would necver have heard of her. So whenever we pray the Hail Mary, we are professing our faith in Jesus, the Word made flesh. As she said to Elizabeth, her soul magnifies the Lord; everything about her speaks of God. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Luke 1:29 "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." (Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee) Luke 1:38 "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." (blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus) 1 Corinthians 7:34 "An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit." (Holy Mary) Luke 2:6-7 "6 While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn son." (Mother of God) 2 Corinthians 1:11 "as you help us with prayer, so that thanks may be given by many on our behalf for the gift granted us through the prayers of many." (pray for us sinners now) Matthew 10:22 "but whoever endures to the end will be saved". (and at the hour of our death. Amen.) I don't think you would disagree with me on the Lord's Prayer, Glory Be, and the Apostle's Creed, but if you do, then tell me :0) In summary: the Rosary is 65% directly to Jesus and about him. It is 35% honouring and requesting prayers from Mary, his Mother. 88% of the Rosary is directly from the Bible, 12% is from the wisdom of early Christians. The Hail Mary Is all about Christ incarnation guess these morons are against Jesus ..Without the incarnation, we would have no Our Father. If Jesus had not taken flesh in her womb, we would necver have heard of her. So whenever we pray the Hail Mary, we are professing our faith in Jesus, the Word made flesh. As she said to Elizabeth, her soul magnifies the Lord; everything about her speaks of God😆😆

I do admire how well my Protestant friends know the Bible. However, all devout Catholics know it as well and are actually the ones who chose and compiled the books in the Bible. I’m sorry that you’ve never had a priest tell you to read the Bible (that’s awful!) but I have. If you go to mass every Sunday, you will have heard the entire Bible (all 73 books) in 3 years. If you read the Catholic Catechism. and the entire Bible for yourself and attend mass, I believe you will understand and see that the Catholic Church has a reason for every single tradition and action. Many Protestants have only been taught lies about the Catholic Church. Most of what this man is preaching is not true. He might have good intentions and believe what he is teaching is true or maybe he was poorly catechized by a lukewarm Catholic who doesn’t really know Jesus. I pray to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for ALL souls that we may all know God and make Him known. God Bless.

@@robertdelisle7309 I have many Protestant and Catholic friends who are both filled with the Holy Spirit and believe that Jesus died on the cross for them. There are so many Christian churches, how is one to choose? All of the Protestants do things even ever so slightly different from one another and so much bickering between them. The Catholic Church is the oldest organized Christian church that exists and it’s name is Greek and the word Catholic literally means “Universal “ and is the same mass every Sunday at every Catholic Church in the world. There has to be truth to seek within the Catholic Church but of course you will find corruption in all churches. The devil wants to divide us! The church cannot force you because every man has free will to see for themselves and decide. Unfortunately, there are poorly catechized Catholics who don’t understand their own faith/religion. You’ll find that at every denomination as well. I’m just glad that people are seeking and trying to know God! I decided to practice my faith in the Catholic Church and I believe their is a fullness of faith that is experienced in the Catholic Church if done correctly. The 2nd commandment is clubbed in the first one. You shall have no other gods included images of gods. The last commandment was split into two for this reason. The sin of coveting the property of one's neighbour and coveting neighbour's wife. Women are not the property of men. Woman are individuals created in the image of God. Coveting neighbour's wife is sin of lust which is different from coveting neighbour's goods. All points of the ten commandments are covered. Catholic Church prohibited having images considered as "gods". Images that are not considered as gods are ok. That is why statues, paintings, murals of Jesus, Mary and the saints are ok to depict stories. These things are not gods including the statues of Jesus. If we should not have any images whether it is considered as gods or not, then having photos and paintings of our loved ones too should be prohibited. In that case, Israelites too have committed sin fir having the Ark of the Covenant which had the images of cherubim in gold. Even Moses committed sin by making bronze serpent and hung it on a pole. Those bitten by the serpents looked at the bronze serpent and were healed. Solomon's Temple too had images to beautify it. I think you should ask this question : what type of images are prohibited and why.

I was raised as a Catholic and attended Catholic school through grade 8. All of my life I felt conviction of sin and that I was being drawn, but I questioned Catholicism constantly. It didn’t make sense to me that a religion that claims to believe in the love of God was so against any other faith that believed in God. I started to read the Bible and made an appointment with the priest at my church. But by bit, God opened my eyes to the false teachings and His truth. In time, my whole family repented and followed Jesus. My mother’s conversion wasn’t until she was dying from cancer and watching the 700 club. Her deliverance was the miracle we had been praying for. Though her life on earth ended, she lives eternally in the afterlife with her Savior! I am in awe of the work God has done in my life and my family. I eagerly look for His return.

Maybe think about the other way around? The Church was founded by God the Son. His way is counter-cultural. His way is not the way of the world. His way is not the way of Pat Robertson. Of course the Church stands against all other religions! We recognise that there is Truth in other religions, just as God can give his grace to people of any faith. This doesn't change the fact Christ founded only one Church, and that church is not the 700 Club or the SDA or any form of Evangelical church or any Lutheran church or any kind of Baptist church. The only religious institution that can successfully make the claim of being the Church that Christ founded is the Catholic Church --- The Church. The Church has stood solidly on the bedrock of Christ's teaching in the face of individuals and groups and alternative churches, all of whom claim that they believe in God, for two thousand years. The question is not "do you believe in God", but rather are you doing what God asked you to do? The entirety of scripture is all about God forming people who will obey him rather than rebel against him. This spirit of rebellion extends into the religious realm as well. If you want to know and live the gospel, if you want to follow God's lead then you need to be in his Church. Catholics stand for obedience to God and the kind of Church he founded and ordained. Protestants either reject this or have grown up in a situation where they never understood this. I'm glad that God has wrought miracles in your life! Go and reconcile yourself to the Church that Christ founded!

@@redbird9000-- We know that Christ is the Rock. And we also know that Peter is the rock upon which Jesus founded his Church. If you wish to follow Deut 4, then consider becoming Jewish and follow all the ancient commandments. We are not under the old law. There are obviously new covenant priests. Jesus is the High Priest and he ordained his Apostles to that office. The New Testament clearly speaks of bishops, priests and deacons officiating in the Church. The Church has continued this practice established by Jesus. Can you clarify what you mean by favouritism and "the church being built in a human"? The Apostles are indeed equal. They are "brothers". Peter was given a particular role among his brethren. Christ is king;l to Peter was given the role of Prime Minister, the keys; it fell to Peter to feed the sheep; it fell to Peter to strengthen his brethren. We agree: Jesus is the chief cornerstone. We agree: twelve foundation. And also one given the governorship, as seen above. Peter is one of the twelve and he is also set apart from the twelve. He is given a different role as compared with the twelve. You quoted Revelation. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Jesus commands us to pray for each other, and so we do: we ask the saints on Earth to pray for us and we ask the saints in heaven to pray for us. The Church has done this since the very beginning. Yes, there is one God and one mediator. And he lets us participate in the divine life by interceding for one another and asking each other for intercession. If you think there is so much wrong with the Church, then you must concur that there is so much more wrong with the teachings of Jesus, that there is something wrong with the way he ordained the Christian life. On blessing same sex couples. OF COURSE the Church blesses same sex couples! They're SINNERS! Just like me! And just like you! Do you not wish to be blessed? Even in your sinful state? Maybe you don't, but I sure do! I want all the grace God can heap on me! Because I do sin, and I sure need all the help I can get!

I bet you were never taught the following either… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?

Acts 2:38 reads as follows: “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” This verse is important as it answers the question of the preceding verse, “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” (Acts 2:37). The above interaction on repentance and baptism took place after Apostle Peter’s speech on the day of Pentecost. This day marked the beginning of the Christian church, led by the Holy Spirit. Following Jesus’ instructions, the disciples waited in Jerusalem and received the gift of the Holy Spirit, which was manifested through speaking in other tongues. This drew the attention of passers-by who heard the disciples speaking different languages. Through the Holy Spirit, Peter then delivered a speech that resulted in the conversion of over 3,000 people (Acts 2:41). Repentance and baptism are central concepts in Christianity, but they have also become controversial, with differing opinions on their meaning. Before delving into the “why,” it is important to understand what it means to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. The Greek word for “repent” is metanoia, which conveys a change of mind about something. In the context of Peter’s sermon, repentance involved a change of mind about the person of Jesus. Peter had just confronted his hearers with the truth that “God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). The Jews of Jerusalem needed a big change of mind: they had thought Jesus was worthy of death; they needed to see Him as their Lord and Messiah. In most contexts today, repentance involves a change of mind about Jesus, sin, and salvation. Before coming to Christ, our perspective on everything was different. Sin was considered normal, Christ was merely a historical figure, and salvation was something to be earned by good deeds outweighing bad deeds. At the point of conviction, our mindset needs to change-we must repent. Sin is revealed for what it truly is: rebellion against the Creator. We also realize that we cannot meet God’s perfect standards and that Christ is our only hope. This total change of mind should inevitably result in a change of behavior (Matthew 3:8). The word for “baptism” is the Greek word baptismos, which refers to the act of being immersed, submerged, or fully wet. Scripture records two forms of baptism: water baptism and Spirit baptism (Luke 3:16). The context of Acts 2:38 points to water baptism, though, with the mention of “the gift of the Holy Spirit,” Spirit baptism is also at play. Arguments about the relation of water baptism to salvation can become intense. First, we need to establish that baptism is a command (Matthew 28:19-20). However, we should avoid making water baptism a prerequisite for salvation. In the very next chapter, Peter preaches another sermon (Acts 3:11-26). In it, he commands repentance (verse 19) but never mentions baptism. We are saved by grace through faith, not by faith plus baptism (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is symbolic, representing outwardly the inner transformation of the Spirit. Peter commanded it in Acts 2:38 as a way to publicly identify with Jesus. But what did Peter mean by commanding people to be baptized “for” the forgiveness of sins? The Greek word translated “for” (eis) in Acts 2:38 can mean “because of” or “as the result of.” The word for in English can carry a similar meaning: a doctor’s advice to “take two aspirin for your headache” is an obvious command to take the pills because of the headache. Noted Greek scholars as A. T. Robertson and J. R. Mantey have maintained that the Greek preposition eis in Acts 2:38 should be translated “because of” or “in view of,” not “in order to” or “for the purpose of.” The same Greek word (eis) is translated “at” in Matthew 12:41: The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at (eis) the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. They repented “because of” the preaching of Jonah. In the same way, one should be baptized “because of” the forgiveness of sin. So, why do we need to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin? Repentance is a necessary change of mind for salvation, and baptism is a symbolic act through which we identify with Jesus. Both actions demonstrate our faith in Christ and our willingness to obey Him.
