Rage and RTJ should form a supergroup called Run the Machine. Tom and El P would do some wild riffs together, and Zack's voice works so well with Mike and El already.

Like Anthrax and Public Enemy? Public Anthrax wasn't welcome and, IMO, the first to not back down in cancel culture. Loved the "Basket full of puppies" tour, then the "we're not changing our name" tour. Run The Machine is exactly what Rage Against is now for, dude.

I love when people acknowledge Ice-T and recognize his contributions to not only rap, but metal too. That time he did that track with Six Feet Under was probably one of my favorite rap/metal crossovers. Need to hear you guys do something like that. RTJ with literally anyone in metal would be dope. Ye I'm a couple years too late on this video, but I give no fucks.

Didn’t know that happened! Thanks for the tip! Six feet under is some crazy heavy shit to collaborate with lol. Ironically they were at the first “scene” type of show I went to see, along with 25 to Life and maybe E Town Concrete (might have two shows mixed up) but I’m thankful to this day I got be here in the central NJ area and a teen in mid 90’s with so much awesome music and fans everywhere. I always wonder what a 15 year old dude is expected to listen to to cope with that rage that comes out of nowhere in ur teens? Anyway I was actually listening to Cannibal Corpse this morning after reading about Chris Barnes being in both CC and 6fu

I remember when Body Count first came out. I went to see them at a little club and the first half of the show was Ice doing his rap hits, of which I was familiar with some, then closed out with Body Count. It was seriously one of the most inclusive and positive atmospheres I've ever experienced at a show and he absolutely encouraged it. A true O.G. of moving the cultural dialogue forward.

I've been a lover of metal and hip hop since 1987. Discovered it all at age 11 through some older lads and used to go watch the DJ battles at the local record store, face squished against the glass because I was too scared to go in. Also bear in mind that was in South Wales. Hip hop spread really quickly to the UK and there was a thriving b-boy culture in every little backwater town, even if it was just a few mates with a boom box and a copy of a copy. It was also thanks to this music that I learned of the American civil rights movement and had my eyes opened to the way humans can treat each other. Metal was the perfect counterpoint to that. I cut my teeth in Queen then guns n roses and iron maiden, quickly going to megadeth and Metallica then grunge in the early 90s. Then a decade of the most incredible music from both genres, particularly metal which just opened up sonically and went fucking mental. The two meeting was inevitable with the likes of Rage, the Judgment Night soundtrack, Bodycount and public enemy were sampling slayer in the late 80s on she watches channel zero, ahead of the curve as ever. Unfortunately both genres now suffer with weak mainstream acts but there's still as much good music in both as there ever was, you just have to look for it (which is now super easy, thanks interwebs)

Sometimes when I listen to music I just want it to be heavy: overwhelming yet exhilarating, a release of tension and a rush of new energy at once. These guys do it for me. RATM, Deftones, NIN for sure. Guess that doesn't make me a very tasteful or intellectual listener, but you can't deny power when you hear it and feel it. Digging For Windows goes so hard. When I got into RATM I discovered that song, but now I'm getting into RTJ and it makes sense that El produced the track.

Judgement Night Soundtrack, circa 1993. Huge names in hiphop doing tracks with metal stars. Mediocre film, but a fantastic soundtrack album. Blew my mind back then and I still stick that album on regularly. First heard El-P on a record by Brighton electonic duo Evil Nine in 2009ish and thought the guy was absolutely stellar back then and you could sense the metal vibes through the lyrics and delivery. Fast forward and he and RTJ exploded. The boys don't just love hip hop, they love music.

I read a long time ago the el-p was obsessed with blade runner and authors like Philip K Dick, i think thats where that sharp, rigid, futuristic sound comes from. I've been a fan since like 97 when company flow opened up for the beastie boys at the electric factory in Philly where he basically got booed off the stage. It's amazing to see the evolution from then to now. How can you not love these 2, greatest hip hop duo ever

i literally gave Slayer a shot because of hip hop super producer Rick Rubin and the fact they had albums on Def Jam Records. If not i would've only known Raining Blood. Slayer is easily one of my fav bands outta any genre of music ever. And im a young old-head, born in the 80s.

There's been a crossover between hardcore metalheads and hardcore hip hop heads for a looooong fucking time. It's something you easily pick up on if you're heavily into either genre or talk to someone from the opposite camp and realize how much you relate to them. Love of metal is why I have a love for hip hop, and it's vice versa for allot of hip hop heads who find love in metal.

I continually say there is a connection between hip hop and metal. There's something there. I just need a better way to articulate it. But there's a reason these guys like Waka Flaka are into bands like Lamb of God. It's a different kind of heavy, but it's still there. Are the lyrics for some of these new guys the best or kind of stupid? Yeah, but there's some stupid punk lyrics too. Things evolve. These new guys are punk and thrash will come soon. RTJ is just their own thing though. If you haven't heard El-P's Fantastic Damage, do yourself a favor and listen to it.

DefThrone I think the connection is being emotional, and putting it all out there. Everything pent up, everything keeping you down, you just blast it out. Just in a different way

A heavy focus on rhythmic qualities, double bass, lots of triplets for increased intensity... Those are a couple shared values.

Black Sabbath and most metal showed up as an expression of the darker sides of reality. A lot of rap music also takes this approach.

I mean more from a historical point. Body Count, Rage, Rick Rubin, Anthrax and Public Enemy all straddle the line. As someone who enjoys both hip hop and metal, I'd like to see those two communities more united. But that doesn't mean we need another Limp Bizkit. God no. But something new and innovative that utilizes both.

I’ve always said music is subjective..if you feel it ..your body will move involuntarily..my first love was metal ..and till this day I’m still listening to it , but hip hop and that deep baselines and nice drum patterns that makes it so unique and also well put together i mean music it’s truly an art

THIS. Fucking this. People wanna clown the 90's teens for having crossover artists/bands, but we first grew up in the 80's with the Rick Rubins of the world in our ears. Love the Jewels, love RATM, love how dudes in our 40s are now setting the standard for what good music really is.

Getting slightly on the older side now... I got in to hip hop from its rise, way way back in the day, Grandmaster Flash days. But, because of being in to music from a very young age, before finding hip hop, I think I always had a taste of music that was spread wide. Although at the time, my iron maiden and AC/DC collections were hidden firmly from the view of my hip hop friends ;) So when metal and hip hop started to merge, especially with bands like rage, it was a god send for me. I used to break dance, do graffiti (something I still do occasionally as an artist) but after what I personally found to be its hay day, I fell out of love with hip hop a while back. If I'm honest, and much to the horror of a lot of die hard hip hop fans, I kind of saw Wu Tang as the beginning of the end for me. Not that they were bad, at all, but what followed was a slow decline. I am definitely one of those grumpy old men that constantly moan about hip hop being dead... music being dead for that matter. But, like anything you love, its hard to let go and so dip your toe in the water occasionally, see if theres anything that grabs your attention. Sometimes, just sometimes, something new grabs you like a fucking piranha and wont let go. Just like these guys... Hip Hops not dead... nor is music... or cinema... or insert any creative pursuit you like, as much as I moan that it is. Its just harder to find the quality among the ocean crap we're bombarded with these days. But occasionally, when swimming through that ocean, those killers surface... that shark of an artist comes along, rips your arm off and demands your attention. Reminding you times might have changed, but the killers are still out there... Love these guys.
