El-P is the real deal. I've been to hundreds of shows and he's one of the few that really amazed me after-the-fact by just schmoozing with fans a bit in a way that felt incredibly genuine. Sounds dorky, but I'll never forget his attitude that night. Edit: This was in fucking IOWA no less. The thing people not from the midwest don't realize is that we KNOW we're from the midwest. We're not naive. We like good music too. When people like El-P show us love, it means that much more.

Great interview Kweli. I actually met EL-P back during a "I'll Sleep When You're Dead" tour show in Gainesville, FL. Pretty down to earth guy. I got a picture with him and an autograph for my Funcrusher Plus album copy. I still remember shaking his hand and saying "Thanks for all the music. Best of luck in everything you do. And best of luck with your label.". I could see on his face that the label comment registered as an empty compliment (He wasn't angry. He just sighed and said "Thanks".). I then shortly found out that Definitive Jux was to shut down. I also remember seeing Beezy from DEHH waiting for his turn in line behind me and EL complimenting their show (I had no idea about DEHH at the time). Good to see EL is still doing good after all these years (Healthwise, and musicially). Definitely looking forward to RTJ 4.

These dudes are so much of an influence on my growing up. I'm from ATL so I could have only dreamed Killer Mike would join all this later. Rawkus changed my life man. I'm not a rapper, DJ, anything, but that shit made me move to NYC with no job. I just wanted to be in the city and to be around people like this. Rage Against the Machine was my bigtime mind changing group growing up. Their first self titled album & DJ Shadow's Endtroducing are still my favorite albums ever made. When Zack appeared and dropped that shit on Lyricist Lounge it was so amazing to send me more into that world. It was the cross between both worlds for me. I always knew Zack worked with Roni Size, Shadow, El-P back then and only a few songs got out and I always wish I could have heard more. Props to Talib for asking that question. I grew up in ATL on 'Kast, Goodie Mob, Field Mob, LaFace Records, etc all that while also being obsessed with the 8 Steps to Perfection buggin' like Rwanda type NYC backpacker scene made Run The Jewels turn into the craziest group. In my imagination they'd only get together if I won the lottery and put that shit together lol. I may not always agree Talib but I'll always respect his opinions. I love how relevant El-P has always been. To me he's the Trent Reznor or Maynard James Keenan of hip hop, love it or hate you still have to respect it.

I ended up here because, like many, I'm so waiting for RTJ4. I didn't know this channel even existed, and I loved every minute of this interview, and not just because of El-P. Amazing interview format. Naturally, I subscribed.

Take white out of that sentence. He is one of the most talented rappers PERIOD
@fossyradrock70775 жыл бұрын
@@MTWENTY I agree. Hes just a rapper, theres no reason to be race obsessed and calling him a "white rapper". imagine saying "white jazz players" it would sound retarded.

Great interview, thank you for sharing this conversation. Last Good Sleep is super powerful, it is interesting that he revisited that idea again later with Stepfather Factory. I started following El-P due to his super densely layered production style, still to this day there are only handful who create such deep musical landscapes and even fewer who do it right...then he lays these heavy conversations on top of all that with just enough humor interlaced so that you don't lose all hope.

I came here for El-P but wow Peoples Party is legit too! I love real talk and real connection, thats why I dig El-P and so thank you for having him as a guest. I feel like peoples party and El-P just helped each other out and that helps bring all of us together.

One of the best interviews I’ve seen El-P in. Very in-depth. Who better to interview El-P other than a fellow New York Legend MC. Much love to Kweli!

RTJ, best thing to happen to hip hop since Public Enemy. Killer Mike should have been a household name way before but I'm glad him and El-P found each other and made the tightest shit this decade. Thanks guys, you brought me and my daughter something that brought us together musically

I remember listening to an interview with Andre 3stacks and he said when he finally went to NY he now understood why all the beats from the NY sounded the way they did. EL-P reaffirms his understanding in this interview. Dope interview Talib!

I'm a black man who's loved hip hop my entire life. El-P does not need to prove anything to me or anyone else. His legend status is certified by him being present at the foundations of this culture and working just as hard as anyone else in it since then.
