I agree. It's fascinating and been helpful with our own (lower budget, lower power) electric Porsche 928 conversion project down here in Australia. If you're interested, it's on the "inCARnation Australia" channel. 15 episodes so far.

I just love the idea of taking the real contours of your project and putting then in CAD to experiment.

Love seeing the process. Design: Keep it simple and clean. I had a Datson 240Z when I was in senior high school. I rebuilt and modified the car. Big whale tail. Fender flairs for 240 wide rear tires. I think about it now and how immature and it looked like a high school kid's hot rod. Be careful about lots of fins and scoops it will look cheap. My design 2 cents. Thanks

This is so interesting to watch. As a vehicle wrap designer, one of the hardest things to do is making sure the design lays the same as when it is viewed in a 2d proof. I always wondered if i used a 3d scanner on a car , will it be worth it to make designs line up from fender, to bumper to hood. Or quaterpanel to rear bumper to trunk.

Great video! Looks like a really good scanner, little out of my price range unfortunately but hopefully they become more affordable as time goes on. Was looking into these when trying to create some 3D printed mirror mounts for my 1977 Toyota Corona, went with the cheaper option of a good old fashioned contour gauge and a piece of paper instead 😂 Turned out alright after about 12 revisions though!!

For 3D scanning I recommend Leica T-Scan 5 with Laser Tracker AT960 MR ...

lol… that Leica costs more than this whole project. The Range 2 was probably free and got the job done.
@UniCodeInteger10 ай бұрын
@@rickmellor Yes, I know. But there are many companies that offer measurement services with this equipment. Just like the company I work for. The whole car body can be measured in about 3-4 hours with a precision of about 0.25mm (uncertainty of Tracker + Scanner + Alignment - Tracker needs to be relocated few times for scanner visibility).
@rickmellor10 ай бұрын
@@UniCodeInteger I'd image you guys charge around $5k USD plus travel expenses for that service? There's no budget in this project for that. If you guys wanted to sponsor some videos and provide the scanning services to him, I'm sure he'd take you up on it. There's definitely a place for the high end scanners, but what he did with the Revo here is all he needs... but better would be better.

So with this scanner I’d need to bring a laptop along as well? I’m hoping to get one of these but I’m thinking I’d have to do some field work and sell some scans to help pay for it 😅
@Todestelzer6 ай бұрын
It’s more like you can accept a job by having a scanner. And whatever you do is more likely to fit on the first try.

That 3D scanner looks pretty legit. And the price is REALLY fair considering how good it came out. Where do you get the tracking dots from? Are those expensive?

I’ve used the pop, pop2, and mini and none maintain tracking over such a large area… Seems thing have come a long way. I wish they would release firmware updates and not entirely new scanners every 6mons… really keeps people from wanting to invest knowing itll be replaced before they get the hang of using it

Technology has not yet reached a point where you can trust it 100% to get it right the first time without correction or control. So it is not suitable for the common user. I hope that the technology will develop enough that we will all be able to use such convenient devices for a moderate price, because you did not mention how much it costs, I conclude that it is not for shallow pockets. 2000+++$
