Have a Helix, waiting for my Revv D20 to arrive. Was thinking about using the Helix as a pedal platform for my future Revv D20, so this video was a perfect taste of my new rig. Looking forward to this. Thanks for the great video.

Love the tones you are getting straight in the Revv 20

Any chance of sharing these helix presets?

I used a lot 4 method cable but what I really loved it's about I can split the the routing, So I have my rig on stage (Head+1x12+Helix) and at the same time I'm sending to the PA a signal too with the impulse response. Thanks for sharing, all the time waiting a new video.

A very cool thing is that you can program your boost f.i. on leads, so the soundguy doesn't have do it, and do it late ;-)

I use my loop a bit, often with a TC G-Major for Reverbs, Delays and occasionally Chorus. It's old school but good tone is good tone. Really enjoyed this video, makes me want to pull out more of my effects units and put them in the loop.

I've used my helix as a "pedalboard" like the way you did in this video, 4 cable method, direct using the amp modeling and as a wet/dry (1st path only drives into my amp, 2nd path direct to pa with delays, verbs and mods)

Which configuration to you find you're using the most? Thanks for watching!

@@ShawnTubbs I've only had it for a few gigs since being shutdown. I find myself using more direct for sessions from home! Still contemplating replacing my actual tour/session board, but I like turning knobs on the fly too much!

That is what I am doing with my Headrush Pedboard. Straight into my Bogner Shiva. I dig it. Although that G2 would make a nice addition, 😁

Love your videos and your playing... I don't own any Revv stuff yet but I do have a helix... not sure if you've experimented with the modeling but if there's any available Shawn Tubbs presets for helix, I would be intrested and having some of your tones.. cheers

Helix in wet dry is the answer. I mix my wet with an exp pedal landau style. It changed the way i play and sound in the band

I'll admit there is a bit of a learning curve to it and there's something to be said for the old school approach for sure. Thanks for watching!

If you get a Helix you just start from that position, no problem. I have a complete setlist of just pedalboards if that's all i need. The price to options ratio is off the wall. I've saved so much money since getting my Helix ;-) Even if you only have one preset/pedalboard it's still a good buy. And less cables, less dropouts ;-)

Shawn - hey what virtual cabinet and mic did you use for the XLR out direct to recording interface? I just bought the D20 and have been a Helix owner for years and want to explore what your doing here.

Thank you Shawn. Née subscriber here and love your channel. I’d be curious to hear how the amp models in the Helix sound into the front and also know if there is a difference if plugged into the FX return. I have a D20 on back order and wondered how the amp models sound and feel I got the D20. The question I ask is Does it feel like playing a great tube amp, or am I better off from a feel perspective with using something like the G2 into the front of the amp, which is how I think the D20 was designed to be used. Thanks Shawn, amazing playing and great videos.

I've been using my HXFX both ways you've demonstrated, 4CM and as a pedalboard platform. Both ways you really can't go wrong with. Although, the nice thing about using it as a pedalboard is there's no loop involved that can introduce some hum and going through less digital conversion(I could be wrong there). Great video Shawn as always!

Hey Shawn this is not related to amps but I am curious as to what that shirt is that you are wearing in this video. Great work by the way.

Very cool and interesting way to run the Helix! I used a Kemper for awhile and the tones were incredible, but I just couldn’t get used to the feel of it... since, I have switched to an all analog pedalboard into a Suhr Badger 30. Running the helix this way into the front of a tube amp, do you’d till get the feel of the tunes blooming?

I bit the bullet and got 2 Celestion F12-X200 speakers loaded into 2 BOSS Katana mk.1s. Now I can run the same IR output to both amps and FOH which means the levels follow each other. So if I'm low in the amps so is the FOH signal. So the only missing aspect is a live tube amp and I don't feel I'm missing out because of the sound quality coming from the Helix. So now I have my reverbs,delays and modulations and clean boost after the "amp" and a little pro-quality compression. Usually that would mean; amp, loadbox, IR-loader,EFX, poweramp + more. Now it's all being processed in The Helix going to my combos and FOH with a minimum of cables and a great sound :-) !! P.s The Katanas only funtion as poweramps now, the F12-X200 does not sound good without IRs, it is a FRFR guitar speaker that reacts more natural than FRFR monitors ;-) And acoustic guitars sound great as well now. Since I'm a Variax user the whole package is complete now.

I’m really a pedal guy & minimal pedals. I don’t mind dropping a couple hundred $$, when it pops along at about $1200. To $1600. To gamble wether or not I could get use to it. Honestly to me nothing sounds better than a great guitar into a great amp & maybe a little distortion. We all chase those magical tones. This isn’t really a place for my views on large processors on a whole. Good video & I appreciate your work!
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! Nothing wrong with being a minimalist in any way at all as tone is a very personalized thing indeed.
@chrisyoung80624 жыл бұрын
Shawn, in order to maintain a stereo rig what do you think about going guitar into helix (compression/distortion blocks first), helix send to D20, D20 XLR return into helix (wet effects applied after the D20) and out to FRFR powered speakers? So the D20 becomes the amp and cab block with helix distortion/compression before and wet stereo effects after. Thoughts?
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
That could be very cool. There's no wrong way to run things unless it doesn't work...and then..well it's wrong but that being said, I would think that would be a cool way to run a rig. Just have to try and see! Thanks for watching!

I’ve been thinking of doing this. Making my Stomp send/return to my D20 and therefore making the D20 a block in the chain. Is that what you’re doing and how does it sound. 🙏🏼
