Got Z900 and thanks to your video, asked dealer to change tyre to Pilot 5 and now wet or dry its perfect. Got Puig screen and I dont feel any wind pressure. Exhaust is actually fine, the bike is really quiet under 6k but above 6k its very loud and need no extra exhaust. I also got Givi hard back box and I love it. Now my bike is a fully light weight touring machine.
@mikerbiker39125 жыл бұрын
Just curious how tall you are that it's cutting all the wind pressure and what range of speeds are you finding totally comfortable now with the screen (i.e. body not getting pounded anymore lol)? I take the occasional longer trips with high speeds for extended periods of time, been thinking about the Puig screen cause it mounts on top of the stock so I can remove it when I'm in city the rest of the time.

As a helmet i use a shoei rf 1200 with photochromatic windshield and sena 30k, best Setup i ever had in 20 years of riding
@LexGrossmansDog6 жыл бұрын
Good informative video. Still seems a bit infomercial, but better than past videos. The SW Motech bags are pushed hard by RZ, and it’s a good around town or home-back home day trips, but the bags do not hold much, and the waterproof bags take even more valuable room, but are so needed. Plus, they are an expensive option for what they bring in terms of convenience. Look at Nelson Rigg gear for soft luggage, they are a great alternative to the SW Motech, a third of the price and come with waterproof rain covers.
@SpurgeonDunbar6 жыл бұрын
I've done many a trip with regular throw-over soft luggage, but it has its drawbacks. You need to have specific tie down points which can sometimes be lacking on modern naked machines. Once they're in place they can still move and rub against moving parts like shocks or tires. And those rain covers you mentioned don't do anything to cover the back of the bag and have been known to blow away from time to time after long jaunts down the highway (ask me how I know). That being said, you're right in the fact that it's cheap, yet still functional. For folks operating on a budget it's a great option to use to get you started. As I've talked about in multiple Common Tread articles I survived my first 6-7 years on a motorcycle touring with soft luggage. And that included everything from multiple cross country trips to weekend adventures. But, semi hard luggage didn't exist back then, and I wanted to try it out. As far as what RevZilla as a whole is pushing, I can't speak to that. I wanted to add semi-hard bags to this bike because I wanted luggage with supports to hold the weight of the bags in place for when the road got curvy. Regular soft luggage doesn't do that. And the two main manufacturers making luggage like this are Givi and SW-Motech. The only manufacturer making that luggage for the Z900 specifically? SW-Motech. What did I learn? This stuff worked great. Whether you're looking at the Givi set up or the SW-MOtech design, it's a rather nice in-between option. Yes, it's more expensive than traditional soft luggage, but it's still cheaper AND lighter than hard luggage. Most of which (hard luggage) isn't readily available for these bikes to begin with.
@LexGrossmansDog6 жыл бұрын
Spurgeon Dunbar thanks for the reply. I know you’re a busy guy and I do appreciate the dialogue. I myself use all hard luggage now, except for some dry bags I Rokstrap for off road jaunts. If I may make a suggestion, since many cannot afford some of the pricier stuff, can you recommend both? That way the videos can apply to all customers and not just the ones that can afford suggestions. I find Fortnine videos useful in that regard and wish I had some budget friendly rated alternatives when I was younger. Thanks and keep up the quality vids.
@SpurgeonDunbar6 жыл бұрын
That's a great suggestion. I hear you 100%. As we continue to evolve our process it is definitely something we've been taking into consideration, especially regarding the products in the upcoming "Best Of" for 2018 gear videos. Yeah dude, to each his own but Revzilla is always great, nevertheless I have my own riding philosophy. I began riding in 92, I was already 25 but I bought my first bike with my own money. I've always had nakeds and I started on Yamaha's XV Virago cruisers. Everything about them was old school. Then I moved on to sports nakeds. I've had a lot of bikes but today I ride a Yamaha MT-07, slightly modified the ECU, the fact is I can't even mount a cell phone holder. I'll wear a backpack or even use old school saddle bags but that is it. For me the simpler, the less tech a bike has, the more appealing it is. I could never even put on a wind screen, it's almost sacrilege. Take care. Mike.

Could also add some levers onto that list, a fairly cheap way to add an extra adjustment level to something you are going to be using a lot. They also provide better build quality then stock levers. ASV do some good ones but feel free to shop around and I know its not a Mod but investing in some decent gloves that are slightly thinker will help in reducing the amount of vibration you feel and relieving some of the pain from a long ride.

The Battery Tender brand USB converter sucks. It doesn't provide enough output amp to keep up with the demands of a smartphone draining the battery from using the GPS features. It's junk. I went through 2 of them and both had the same results. I opted for a handlebar mounted off brand USB with built in voltmeter, off of Ebay. It had an on off switch, but upon further testing, the power switch in the off position didn't truly disconnect power and would eventually kill the battery, when the bike was off. I decided to tap 12V off the powered side of the fuse box, where there would be a 5 or 10 amp fuse for the ABS, if my bike had abs. Tapping power off the fuse box ensured the USB charger port would be killed of all power once the key was removed. Also, some handlebar risers make a nice difference in comfort for very little money.

Full faired sportbikes are overrated outside of a track environment. I recommend at minimum a 600 naked for some occasional touring use. Anything smaller, I'd install a +1 front sprocket to keep the RPM's down a little more when at highway speeds. You will lose a little bit of passing oomph at highways speeds though and will really notice it with smaller bikes.

Smart phone on trip warning: I’ve had two new iPhone’s go bad due to being mounted on my handle bars. The camera cannot handle the constant vibration and breaks the internal components. Apple is aware of this issue and will not cover this under warranty. They claim it’s in their warranty paperwork. The motorcycles used were Multistrada 1200 & BMW F800, neither of which vibrate very much. I’ve moved back to a Garmin for navigation.

Are there any good saddle bags system for the z 900rs? I'm still having a hard time finding one that is compatible.
@RevZilla6 жыл бұрын
The bike is still so new that there aren't a lot of accessories available yet. That includes any bike-specific saddlebags. -DrewZilla

Would this work on a Ducati monster?
@RevZilla6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the mod. The SW-Motech saddlebags require bike-specific mounting hardware, but there are universal fit saddlebags out there as well. The bike protection kits are also bike-specific, so you could use our Shop By Bike feature on our site and select Exact Fit Parts. The windscreen is also bike-specific, but there are both bike-specific and universal fit windscreens available for the Monster. The cell phone holder will mount to the Monster just fine. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle-parts *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle-accessories
