I’m from Lehi, Utah, Cody and his family were never in danger of being arrested. Do you know how many polygamist live in Utah and no one is ever arrested, ever. It was all a storyline, and people fell for it hook, line and sinker.
@lisetta5052 Жыл бұрын
If you look it up, the court records are public info and you can find the case against them, however it was a case brought by the state instead of the county (or vice versa, I can’t remember which but that’s why it gets overlooked by people sometimes) There was indeed a case against them and they were being investigated. What happened is that there was an agreement in place in the state that polygamists would only be prosecuted if there was suspected harm against the kids or women being forced into marriage etc. So the brown family wouldn’t have normally been targeted. However when they went public, the county decided to make an example out of them and started to pursue a case against them. So when they left the state they sued the state because of the investigation against them and basically the state admonished the county, reminding them that charges weren’t to be pursued against polygamists unless there was suspected harm and the browns didn’t fall under that umbrella. So the case got squashed. It’s possibly the other was around, like I said, I can’t remember if it was a state case or county case or which one had the agreement, but I looked into it all before when WOACB made the claims that there was never a case. Google it and you’ll find it as well as an explanation of what happened.

According to Lehigh UT law enforcement, the Browns would never be arrested for polygamy because Utah has turned a blind eye to it in statute. The only way the Browns were ever in danger of arrest would've been IF they were being investigated for tax fraud, welfare fraud, child endangerment,or other criminal activity. I saw that in a Utah newspaper article on the internet AND a relative of the Lehigh Police chief said he told her the same thing.

Ex Mormon here… to be honest Robyn says out loud what a LOT of the church members think. There is a lot of that in the church. A lot of her comments in the first 15 seasons just reminded me 100% of things I use to hear people say in the church all the time. There are a lot of Mormons who think they are better than others and have better morals, principals and values.

IMO every religion thinks they have it all perfect & are better than other religions
@lisetta5052 Жыл бұрын
@@g.flesch9731 I get what you mean but in my experience mormons are a bit extra. It’s not just that they believe that they are the right religion, but there are layers of “heaven” that members can get to depending on how well they follow the Mormon rules. Which kinda creates this attitude of feeling superior because you’re being better than even your church buddies. I can remember sobbing my heart out as a child when my grandmother was explaining this to me because my mom wasn’t considered a good Mormon by the rules, but I was. So I was told that when we die I would go to a higher level than she would. I was distraught by this. Members can be nice and feel sorry for you and try to help you be a better Mormon or they can look down on you “nicely”, but there is definite judgement. Not many other religions kick member out, excommunicate them, if they don’t follow the rules. A young woman I knew got pregnant out of wedlock and was excommunicated from the church even though her whole family went to the church as she had her whole life. The given reason for excommunication is to allow someone to repent, seek forgiveness, take classes and go through baptism again to wash away their sins. However the reality is that this is hugely embarrassing and that’s part of the reason they do it. There is a lot of judgement.

She still lives in Flagstaff. How do we know she won't be with him in the future??? We don't! Janelle has left before & later came back. What if all this conflict between her & Kody was staged. What if Kody still has 2 wives? Maybe 3, because we all know Meri would run back into the fowl in a heart beat for Kody. Think about the words they have said or not said. Just my musings.
@g.flesch9731 Жыл бұрын
When Kody spoke with Janelle criticizing two of her sons for not adhering to R&K Covid protocols & telling her it was her responsibility to get them on board & apologize to Kody, I thought Janelle did not take well to Kody's denouncing her sons. She did point out that they were adults & she was not wanting to put herself between Kody & her sons. It is always others who have to humble themselves to Kody's will --- Kody denied Janelle building a modest home on their land. Janelle has no home. She is living in a small apartment which Kody visited on the show & all he showed her was disgust. I hope she is done. Kody needs to return to Janelle monies she gave them for the million dollar house R&K live in. IMO, Janelle needs to get a lawyer & sue K&R for her share of money.

If you have seen Big Love the character Roman is slightly based of at of Rulon.
@g.flesch9731 Жыл бұрын
"Big Love" was a fictional account of on-compound/off-compound polygamy life. Bill Paxton played the polygamist husband to three wives & he supported them financially with a Home Depot type of business. (Kody kind of reproduced this when they all lived on a cul-de-sac in Las Vegas) The wives did have individual jobs as well. The wives did share the aspect of multiple children & multiple homes all next to each other. Each week the 1st (legal) wife sat down with the other wives & planned out what things needed to be done & helped each other. In other words, the wives did not always agree, there were jealousies & the husband did deal with that in a more or less positive way. He did not play the women off each other. Kody played the women's need for his affection --when that was a thing -- against each other from the beginning of this reality show - it seemed to be a not so subtle way to keep the wives off balance & an ego boost for Kody. That was before he outright did not want the 3 wives in favor for Robyn. Kody & Christine used to refer to her status as coming from polygamy "royalty" as one reason he "married" her.
@spookymicah3131 Жыл бұрын
Big Love’s Bill and his family was loosely was based off of the Darger family (Joe’s parents). Bill, in the show, does play the wives off of each other and uses them to settle things with other wives. Roman Grant in the show is based off of Christine’s grandfather Rulon Allred.
@g.flesch9731 Жыл бұрын
@@spookymicah3131 Did not know Big Love's Bill was based on an actual family. I thought the Bill character was more or less kind to his wives. In polygamy, the wives are expected to get along with each other & work together to accomplish the spiritual goal of polygamy. In Big Love their religious beliefs are front & center. Bill married his 2nd wife who was raised on a compound & he did use her to get intel re what was going on there. Bill's character practiced polygamy off-compound. But, he had to deal with people - Roman Grant - who lived 0n-compound-life polygamy.

I think he loved them too! He just did use them to play off of each other, manipulated their money, had an ultimate say in where they worked, and major purchases. Barb’s story is close to Joe Darger’s Mother’s story. Joe is married to someone from the FLDS like Bill is. The Greens from the show are pulled from the LeBarons and the ones from Kansas are loosely based off of the Kingstons from what I remember.

I don't think they were under any threat of arrest or prosecution. The AG was investigating them for issues like underage marriage, abuse in the home. They had all filed bankruptcy, failed to declare support from Kody or that Kody was part of their household and none of that was investigated. Utah was not prosecuting people for polygamy at that point, so unless Kody was beating wives, marrying 14 year olds. or abusing his children, there was no threat of prosecution. Here's Brown's problem. They tells us things in season one that they change in season 3 (Christine is now a stay at home mom, but, wait, wasn't she a stay at home mom in season one?) or 7 or 17, or that they conceal, they exaggerate things -- like Robyn insisting she hid her polygamous family life when she didn't even go to school with her father's other family's siblings, or the family pretending to run from the law, leaving Utah. It's hard to follow with any consistency the narrative because they leave information out, conceal things from us, exaggerate, and sometimes just outright lie. It makes it hard to find characters who are sympathetic in this family. In season 17 Christine tells things went bad for her when she was pregnant with Truely and needed Kody's help to put her children to bed because she had an evening job and Kody said no, so 11 year old Aspyn had to do it. Well, the problem with that story is that Aspyn was 15 when Truely was born. Christine was married 16 years to Kody when she had Truely and she had Aspyn after the first year of marriage. Now, that story may have been true when she had Ysabel, but it was not true when she had Truely, or Aspyn was older that Christine claimed. It's hard to keep up when they lie to us and hide things. Another example is that Kody and Meri had not had sex since about the time the show started or there about. Maybe, right after Kody talked Meri into divorcing him. But in the show, for years he acted like he was still lovey dovey with Meri. So when the catfish episode happened, the context for Meri's vulnerability was left out. And why weren't they even talking about the lack of sex with the marriage counselor? In season 17, Kody acted like he was spending nights with Janelle. He made a big fuss about the height of the lamp on the night stand and about the dogs in the bed to make it look like he was spending the night. Savannah spilled the beans that Kody no longer stayed over, that he just came by and left. Janelle let us think that she and Kody were an in tact marriage, when they weren't. Janelle, until season 17, was very quiet about pretty much everything. When her foot was out the door, suddenly she found her voice and said the things we've all seen, which is a big relief. We still don't know how Kody and Robyn support their lifestyle, and what about the other wives' share of the family account or returning their loan to buy the McMansion? Did Robyn ever report as income the money Meri and Janelle gave her to pay off her debt? Did Robyn tell Kody before they married that she came with that debt or that that $32K was only her half of it? She told us in later seasons that she took the debt to keep the peace, without telling us that her ex took the other half to keep the peace, too. She also appears to have worked to turn her children against their father and no one talks about that. As the audience, it's really frustrating that TLC doesn't bother to explore any of these things. It's getting hard to follow a family that hides so much from us that we can't even follow the narrative from season to season. And why doesn't anyone ask what Kody's obligations are to each of his other 3 wives and 13 children and why it's okay that over $1.6M is in Robyn's name, while Christine walked with $150K after 27 years of marriage? Why is it a problem for Christine to be jealous when Kody spends no time with her or her children, and has handed over to Robyn over $1.6M in assets? No one ever asks that question. it's frustrating.

In season 17, when Kody dropped by Janelle's cramped, tiny apartment -- No way Kody slept there it was filled with stuff, dogs. Kody could not keep the look of utter disgust with Janelle's place. But, when Janelle showed Kody her architectural drawings for a modest home to be built on Coyote Pass --- Kody was a no go. Kody probably has plans to sell that land -- he does not have the $$ do keep that land or build houses. In Flagstaff, Janelle has lived in a small rental home, an RV on their property & now a tiny apartment. Meanwhile, K&R have the big house.

Check the court records for their lawsuit against Utah - it was eventually dismissed on the grounds that the Browns weren't really at risk because no one has been prosecuted for polygamy in Utah for a long time.

Despite what Kody says, Christine was the one that put then in the spotlight for being on the show. She headed up a group to make polygamy more out in the open to everyone.

I definitely agree with your spill on ethics. Kind of like the African diaspora vs African/Black Americans war on social media. Or Europeans vs Americans

ethics and morals apparently doesn't apply to paying your bills (how many times have they declared bankruptcy?) committing welfare fraud, and engaging in multi-level marketing scams.

I would love someone to dig into their financials. I would bet there is some food stamp fraud.

Before making some money with the TV show, the Browns did rely on public assistance. They have also had multiple bankruptcies. Polygamists rely on "bleeding the beast" to survive financially. The wives are registered as single parents & the govt gives them assistance even though they consider themselves "married" to a man. It is not considered illegal because they are single mothers without a father listed on the birth certificates.

I have to believe they used the need to move, to make room for Robyn, as a storyline, but made it a "need to flee" for dramatic effect.

Christine's family is HUGE in their religion. She is an Allred and she is closely related to a former prophet- I forget how exactly but it's a big deal. Actually Robyn's first husband is also from this family (her cousin I think?) but keep in mind how big these families are so I don't think they were close. Kody straight up admitted her married her for clout, marrying an Allred was a BIG DEAL. Especially because she was his 3rd wife and his ticket into the Celestrial Kingdom and made him an elder in the church. Plus Christine is obviously very popular because of her fun & easy going personality. So Christine got him clout, popularity and power in his church and family.

Poor Christine took care of the 13 kids Kody had with wife no 1, 2 and 3, and then worked nights, because she was of course not compensated for her work. Robyn did not grow up plyg. Her dad had two families living in different towns, she had NOTHING to do with the other family, they did not mingle, did not attend the same school as them

@@b.m.t.h.3961 ecactly. When a friend of mine was 17 it came out her dad had 2 families, 3 kids with my friends mother whom he was married to, and two kids with the other woman. Her parents got divorced and he married the other woman. I was at my friends wedding 10 years later. It's been over 20 years now and all 5 kids are good friends and have told their parents their issues are their issues, don't drag the siblings into it

I don't know that Janelle will ever actually leave. She still believe in polygamy. So I think she'll leave independently, but never actually "leave" him because she still believes in her "marriage." Christine is definitely the spoken person in the early years. Very polished.
