I think that part of the issue is that people are not living with the landscape, we see nature as a tool, not Mother Nature, when people live off the land and not merely on it we are an ecosystem engineer.

@@Eco-Nerdand as engineers we could take example from countries that have already found a way to coexist with nature. In South Africa, nature thrives because it is seen as an opportunity. Animals attract tourists, and there ecological tourism brings 71% of the country's earnings and with elephant-proof fences the problem of coexistence is not so great, thanks to the fact that the ecosystems are complete. I want to believe in the possibility of having some Game Reserves in our home and being able to appreciate the nature behind my house, as a citizen of South Africa can do an hour's drive from his home!

@@Eco-Nerd and regarding the video "big cats in Europe" technically there are examples of large African cats that develop thick fur in captivity. The Asiatic lion in European zoos develops a majestic mane and its cubs thick fur. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGGVgoWnbdeSeNUsi=SlEvkJF1MhnjIMkD kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYPIf6ONl6x9kNEsi=fUGSJabBBZnqzP56

Cool, thanks for the video links! Yeah, lions do okay in the cold but a Russian zoo tried keeping them outside full time and the young cubs weren't able to survive and that's with the adult lions being fed by humans. Who knows though, they might do well in Europe if they were given time to adapt!

The wolf and lynx is a must for any balanced eco system to work. Farmers and land owners in Europe know how to work around these predators. talk to them and see what they do.

The most beneficial species of all that we desperately need is the Beaver. We have approximately 30,000 kms of now shaded out streams and small rivers where our trout and salmon used to spawn, kept open until the mid fifties by the rabbit and human cutting for firing. Of course they were here before, what we now call the island of Ireland, being contigous with the rest of the so called British Isles, Doggerland and across. Anyone interested in ponticum issue, please contact me.

I love this video brother. I am buying acreage in cork soon, saving for the mortgage currently, I plan on planting native trees and buying boars and red deer from the UK (Cannot find sources locally) once my trees have matured to the point where the animals wont ruin them. Ther boars are great rotyavotors for preparing the ground for tree regeneration

@@Eco-Nerd i would disagree on that, they're probably even more easy to reintroduce than wolves. 1. far less dammage on sheeps and cattle 2. culturally important, maybe more than wolves, in celtic and gaelic culture iconography etc. 3. they're less carnivorous/predtaory, so don't impact farmers or hunters that much. 4. better cultural and mediatic perception, not as demonized and seen as more "friendly" despite being the only predator that can and will (rarely) attack human compared to lynx, wolves or wolverine. look at the situation scandinavia, eastern Europe or even France, they accept bear far more than wolves. They tolerate bear but are very hostile toward wolves. what's surprising is what kind of brown bear should be used for reintroduction in ireland. Roman says that irish bear were very large and ferocious, genetic analysis show they were a distinct lineage from modern two clade of bear in Europe, and had lot of polar bear mtdna. Sitka/Stickeen bear or even Kodiak bear seem to be the best proxy in genetics. But using scandinavian bear would be the most practical and second best choice.

The beaver was 'accidentally' released in the UK. When they had visibly restored the landscape, beavers were 'discovered' & beaver reintroduction was legalised. Can someone please release lynx in deer areas. Our government moves way too slowly, constantly pandering to nimbys. I don't have the resources myself.
