This is spot on. I made the conscious decision to change from a very negative base and bring true peace and joy into my life. I found that it not only influences myself but others as well. I cannot tell you how many people who are upset or distraught will call or visit to speak with me. I offer them a different perspective and a calming influence. Each and every time this interaction happens there is the same result. The person will tell me that, whereas they were in a state of fear/anger/discontent/etc they now feel perfectly calm and able to continue on. Each time that happens it humbles me more and more. What a power! And in this process the beauty of this world magnifies and expands more and more. The world is so desperate for more of this and less of the fear/anxiety/negativity that is so readily poured out.

It is always a pleasure to watch your videos. I have seen the TED talk by Dandapani some weeks ago and it stuck with me since then. Focus helps me with every aspect of life. It helps me find meaning and joy in my everyday activities. I also noticed that I stopped worrying while doing other things (like thinking about the unpleasant obligation in the evening while reading in the morning). Focus brings order into consciousness. Disorder in consciousness makes unhappy and stressed.

I've lived most of my life sitting in front of a screen pressing buttons. It is because of this that I don't have many experiences to learn from or to share with others. In 2014 I found a book called be here now which changed my whole perspective on life as well as introducing to meditation. Ever since than I haven't been consistent with my practices and have since gone back to a gamer lifestyle which has destroyed me socially, psychologically, physically, and spiritually. Even when I stopped playing it would call me back like a drug. Video games have been such a big part of my life that it has taken time to let it pass. I've had a lot of ups and downs these past two years. Only now have I come to realize, that it's not the past that defines who you are, but rather we have to focus on what can we do right here now for the benefit of all life. Namaste

Love the colorscape you used and love the glow. Iv'e been working on being more focused and grateful. Some tools I use are a dollar store journal to write six things every morning that I'm grateful for and it amazes me now how much I missed by not doing this small practice. I also am training and catching myself to be more loving and accepting but still learning to have healthy boundaries which I think is important to. All and all it has relieved me of a lot of stress and worry and I'm so enjoying it along with being a bit more playful and silly. And every morning I am doing the GLOW. Well described Kenton! I've been doing meditation with the boys with Liz and it's hard to describe why we do it and how we know we're doing it right. I like the idea of our mindscape and being able to detect flavor. I think the boys will be able to grasp these ideas so I'm adding this link to our homeschool viewing. Now I just need to grapple with how this perspective does or doesn't coexist with ideas of peer counseling- where we work through old hurts with attention and space for discharge. Thank you!

Nice , clear explanation of neuroplasticity where we can rewire our brain and train it to respond like we want to. Sometimes I see human brain like a super computer with a kind of msdos obsolete software without user manual !! Keeping in a part of my mind words, feeling and emotions like love , compassion , patience ,smile .... And reviewing them often in my mind during the day , just thinking about those emotions not always in correlation with memories but just the words and their meaning helped me when I have to face angry clients ,it help to calm the customers just showing him empathy , attention and usually it "desarm" the situation. Not always easy to do every time but worth to try. If I receive in the morning a phone call from a customer really disrespectful, aggressive when I listen him attentivly in the same time I repeat in my mind those words and think about his words like rain dropping along my skin like a shower that don't arm me in any way so I remain calm . like a small meditation during a conversation. Is that make sense ? At least it works on me most of the time when I think to apply it, sometimes I forgot and the conversation can upset me, more difficult to deal with .Thanks Kenton for your explanation have a nice day

I've just found out about your channel thanks to Canadian Prepper, and with this single, seemingly simple video as a frame of reference, I can already say it's hopefully gonna change my life in a meaningful way. It probably sounds like overreacting, but at this time it's very much my genuine, heartfelt reaction as I'm still processing what it really means, that such a simple understanding could be so decisive and reshape the very way I perceive the world around me, everyone and everything in it. I shall take your teachings into consideration from now on, and perhaps it will even make me a better person =) Thank you so very much !

Brilliant! just what I needed today. I think everyone will relate to this. So true. I had a bad day all day because of one bad phone call this morning. Which was daft but, it ruined the day. I could have changed that if I had used such an approach as this. This is one of the best videos I have watched of yours. And they are all very good. This reminds me so much of muscle memory. For example when you drive you don't think how to change gears and push your foot on clutch as it is all wrapped up in muscle memory. Same when you play a musical instrument, for example the piano, your fingers remember the scales eventually purely through muscle memory. It become automatic. The mind is what molds those processes and your grooves are the same as muscle memory described by musicians. It must be why some people seem so angry, as it has become their way burned into muscle memory (aka your grooves). You made this so clear. Brilliant presentation.

This video seems like (is) basic 101 stuff, but it is so important, it's the necessary foundation that a stable life must be built on. What you are saying concurs with what I am hearing from many other places on my journey out of depression and anxiety. Everything you are saying rings so true and hearing you explain the process with clear examples is helping me to focus and understand my use of mindfulness and meditation. I'm currently learning to meditate with a guy called Andy Puddicombe through his headspace software application. But you my friend are another piece in the jigsaw of my rehabilitation as you shine light on many of the questions that are coming into my mind. ReWildUniversity hi Kenton, You are very welcome, I follow quite a few people on KZbin who talk about their lives and experiences and find it very helpful and quite often you hear someone's experience and it consolidates what you have heard elsewhere and then gives you the faith to believe that you are progressing. I have Ben caught up with a bit of negativity, have posted some negative stuff more as a reaction to frustration from some who have channels on KZbin. I won't mention any names but one guy use the expression 'you have s&&t pyschology ' if you are depressed. He claims a lot of stuff and clearly I don't think he really understands, ok some stuff he says is true but anyway....don't want to focus on the bad, suffice to say I am learning that it's no good to harbour bad feeling and just got to let it go. Anyway the headspace, yes that has been very good I'm only at day 29 of it but I'm looking at accessing the next guided meditations that Andy Puddicombe provides. I want to tackle issues of self control in terms of getting my body into shape, controlling compulsive eating habits etc and also finding sources of inspiration. I love outdoors things like walking, camping, woods, mountains but in recent years the shine has come off and I am trying to restore the live I had for the outdoor life again and I know I am on the road to recover. Anyway thanks again for your inspiration man, love your love for life. Keep on keeping on buddy! Chris

I know the feeling -- it doesn't do much good to tell us that we're just messed up if we're having mental/emotional challenges. The truth is, most people ARE having challenges, even if they claim to be teachers or to have their act together, so to speak. So I find that the best route is for us all to have compassion and help each other find new ways to approach life. It sounds like you're being very proactive, and that's inspiring. Keep at it, and thanks for your kind words!
@McLarenIT17 жыл бұрын
Impressively informative. It's quite amazing how easy it can be to switch one's awareness from one complex depressing thought into something far more simple and pleasant. And I totally agree that a single thought can subconsciously 'color' your mood for the rest of your day. This reminds me of an old saying stating that the first face you see in your day shall determine your luck for the rest of that day. Now that I'm thinking of this it's actually making more sense. For if the first person you meet in your day places your mind in a positive state it'll boost your energy & creativity for the rest of that day which in turn shall bring you good fortune. I have been following up with your videos for quite some time and I thank you for the difference you are making not only for me but also for those who I have suggested your content to. Your teachings are definitely inspiring. Even the ideas that I already know are blooming upon hearing your impressions of them. Thank you sir.

Wow! This, to me at least is a very profound way to describe the interaction between our left brain (awareness), and our right brain (mindscape). While the comparison here is not exact (judgements can be both left - logical and right - emotional), but we can use the logical part of our brain to influence the emotional part, and vice versa. I do it all the time, but it requires some courage at first - not everyone is ready to really delve into their subconscious - it can be pretty scary when it's all covered with dark red scribbles ;) I would expand this a bit too. I think there are more lenses than just negative and positive. They can have all sorts of colours, because these lenses are emotions. We can attach an emotional charge to thoughts, judgements and memories. Actually, we do that quite automatically as soon as a thought, judgement or a memory forms. What we can use awareness for is shifting this charge to have it influence us in a positive way. There's one danger though - there's nothing wrong in trying to assign good emotions to a negative memory, but it can lead to repressing, and that's not beneficial at all. I think we shouldn't hold back to live through all of our emotions. When something makes me angry - I let it vent out a bit, and THEN I shift it to something positive. Same with sadness, sometimes you just can't help it, and I don't think you should. I always liked to describe it as letting myself sink to the bottom, so that I have a surface to spring back up from. Perhaps at great levels of awareness and mindfulness you can shift those with no harm before the emotional charge hits you, but I don't think I'm there yet.
@ReWildUniversity8 жыл бұрын
I always love your reminders, my friend, that it's okay to feel emotions -- beneficial even! And you're absolutely correct -- the "lenses" are really our emotions -- I was unsure whether to use "flavors" or "emotions", but you've seen what I was getting at. I've always though of our emotions as essentially the "spices" we put on our experiences. =) Kenton

Greetings from Mother Russia. I like your channel, and the little amount of views has an advantage that your connection with your viewers is more intimate and is more personal (as opposed to being mass production). Positive thinking is indeed very fruitful and beneficial, and I have been practicing it for several years now with tremendous results. I can see the lack of positive thinking in the people around but there's not much one can do about it: you can take a horse to a river but you can't force it to quench its thirst. Speaking of you, I think you've got a "channel". Not youtube one but rather a channel with the Higher Forces who pipe the wise thoughts through you. You may think of yourself as a medium, or a prophet. Some people also have "verbal channels" and I bet you've watched myriads of "channeling" sessions before. "They" (the powers that be) teach that the ultimate goal of the whole thing is advancement and not just of yourself but the whole humanity through each and every individual. And not just humanity but the entire Universe through each and every life form. Anyway, just posted it to let you know I liked your videos very much.

Greetings back from Wisconsin, USA! In the area where I just moved, we have a lot of Russian immigrants, so I get to hear your language and get tastes of your culture every day! I agree -- I hope my channel always stays of a modest size, because I LOVE this intimate connection. And so interesting about the "channeling". It's so interesting you say that, because often when I make a video I don't really make a video -- I just wait for an idea, then let it "percolate" for a few days. Then I'll sit in front of the camera and just talk. Usually it comes out better than if I would have tried to plan it. This happens with public speaking, too. I used to have an outline and notes, but that always got me confused. Now I don't even think much about what I'm going to talk about. I just go and talk. I haven't really thought of it as channeling before, but it's something to consider! Thanks for your thoughtful comment! =) Kenton

Hi Annie! First, congratulations! I this your first child? My wife Rebecca did some cold conditioning during her pregnancy, but not a lot, so I don't have much to go on here. Doctors and health practitioners in general tend to be very cautious around pregnancy -- not only because studies haven't often been done on pregnant women, but because some pregnancies don't come to full completion, anything someone starts during pregnancy can be the thing that gets blamed if the pregnancy doesn't go well. On the flip side, I don't get excited about antibiotics during pregnancy -- we don't know the full effects on babies in the belly. Really, your most powerful tool might be your natural intuition. Try this method (I can't seem to find anything about it on Google), and see how it feels. If it feels too intense, or like it's straining your body too much, then perhaps back off or try something else. Your body will be going through a lot of transitions during pregnancy, as you surely have already experienced! There are some things that you can do that can probably help though. Shift to as clean of a diet as possible, and get daily walks and meditation. Giving your mind and body nourishment through quiet walks and some silent time can really strengthen you. Laughter is always good, which can include funny movies. And of course I always advocate a gratitude practice -- I know that for me, even though I thought I was really mentally/emotionally "in shape", children brought new challenges. I'm glad that I took the time to settle my mind before their arrival! The GLOW meditation can do wonders =) kzbin.info/www/bejne/aImVpZmfgN96d9E With love and excitement for your coming baby, Kenton

Good day to you.You couldn't find anything about this method on-line probably because it's from a book written in 1988 and it's in Russian=)(as am I, by the way) Thank you for your encouragement! I will take your advice and really listen to myself. I don't feel good about antibiotics,and really feel that Tolkachev's ideas resonate with me. If you are interested ,I can talk more about it. And this is my second baby. With the exception of this very long lasting infection everything is going great. As it was with my daughter. Thank you again for taking time on me!

It is all good information, but what do you suggest about Trump Kenton? :D

Ha! Fun question! Well, as you might imagine I'm not a big fan of our current governmental structure, and would envision something quite different (it wouldn't fit into any readily described box, and I won't go into it here), but I think that if we focus too much on things that we can't change, whether it's a president or global threats or whatever, then we use up valuable personal energy in frustration and worry. On the flip side, if we can attend to our own self-evolution, then we make ourselves happier, and we also become more effective at being able to help the people around us. That means that we make the world around us a slightly nicer place, and perhaps those we touch will spread that goodness. In this way, our energies to toward making real, positive change. And the more of us who do that, the more it spreads. All of these social institutions, after all, are only made up of humans, so if enough people change, then perhaps we will see societal change as well. I may be helplessly idealistic, but as a former pessimist, I can say that I'm a lot happier this way, and I seem to be able to change things more effectively from a positive position. =) Kenton

In 1976 I quit smoking by turning a yes habit into a no habit. This took me eighteen months. Habit is formed by choice, character is the quality of those choices. Reaction should always be replaced with a response, even if it is to do nothing.
