such an excellent video! When the first Star Fox came out I was a huge Nintendo fan and that game really captured the mix of simple arcade action with flight sim mechanics which I loved. Its still my favorite in the series. And even as someone who never liked the N64 much, StarFox 64 was easily one of the best releases on the system, and I now play it on 3DS. I would love a modern sequel to star fox that keeps the old flat shaded polygon look but really build up the details of world around it to fly around in. There is so much painstaking detail in the slick edits and information, this is a grand slam!

StarFox was my second favorite SNES game (only seconded by Final Fantasy IV, or FFII to us in the west) and I remember being mesmerized by it being demoed in my local Kmart. When I got it as a birthday gift, I played it heavily, and then when I had played it out, it fell out of favor with me. Then when the N64 came out, my friend had a copy of StarFox 64 and I was blown away, and during a spring/summer, I put a N64 into layaway alongside a copy of StarFox 64. The day I paid off my N64 was one of the happiest of my life. I would later pick up StarFox Adventures as a gift from my parents, and I found it lacking, Zelda-lite, and nothing like the experience I had in StarFox 64. Later, I picked up StarFox Assault, and while it was better than the previous adventures, it still wasn’t as good as the original or 64. The last game, StarFox Zero, was about the best effort towards the experiences from the original or 64. But, the push towards motion controls for the game made it tougher to enjoy as well. I truly hope that we get a new StarFox that ignores the walker or land master and focuses on the aerial combat that it mastered in the first two titles. Fantastic video!
@RewindArcade
@RewindArcade 2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing! I love hearing about people’s memories with how they got into a series. The games sadly haven’t quite ever matched SF64 yet, but I do agree that Zero, even with its awkward controls, still felt like it had a lot of potential. We go into the rest of the series in part 2 of this video series, which honestly may be even more interesting than the first part. Very curious to see if they do anything for the series’ 30th anniversary next year. Thanks for watching!

@@RewindArcade no worries, a very minor detail, it's a great piece of historical work you have created here with fantastic attention to detail. I've always maintained Battlezone is an incredible feat of 3D game design and arcade-to-home porting for the VCS in achieving a 360 degree playfield with horizontal DOF, and it rightly deserves a mention as an early example of sprite scaling that you have done such a great job with here.

you know, it would of been really cool to see Nintendo make an on rails shooter arcade game based on the SNES StarFox. especially if they had a custom built arcade cabinet similar to Act Raiser but in the style of an Arwing cockpit, the sound quality of Killer Instinct, and the smooth controls & graphics similar to StarBlade.

@@RewindArcade awesome. I can't wait to see it. I was aware of Star Fox Armada when they were working on Assault, which was around the same exact time that Joy Ride Studios was origtinally going to release their Star Fox Adventures action figure, which sadly never happened. Hell, I still think a StarFox arcade game can work extremely well now a days with the proper team involved. Raw Thrills has definitely managed to keep the arcade alive with games based on movie properties, and if they went with a more classic approach utilizing the SNES art style, I think this would of been such a strong way to bring back StarFox with a proper 3rd game. plus, it would of been a great talking point among gamers to see this series get a revival in the most bad ass way possible.

@@RewindArcade that's true. they also had an arcade machine of Mario Kart 8 not too long ago as well. so, it's not that farfetched of an idea if you ask me to premier Star Fox 3 as an arcade game which could potentially be ported to the Switch. hell, if the arcade games had SD memory card support, theoretically you could unlock stuff from the arcade game and from the console port. it would be a fun way to incorporate the old with the new in a way that we haven't seen since the 90's.

seeing this video come out this week is such a major coincidence for me for 2 reasons. (1) - I was extremely excited with the recently released fan made rom hack of StarFox EX Exploration Showcase which blew me away. not only due to the new content that they were able to generate, but for the technological improvements that makes it look like a lot of fun playing. the only problem is that I need to get an FXPak Pro in order for me to play it properly on an actual SNES console, until the day someone finally decides to release it as a reproduction cart. still, it is very impressive and it's far more effort in keeping StarFox alive than Nintendo as of late. & (2) - I'm going to be getting a 2nd custom made statue of Fox McCloud from the SNES version from a seller who made me a statue many years ago that had to be fixed earlier this year. she will be using the same exact mold but will be giving it a different paint scheme that's closer to the actual puppet that they've used in the advertising. I'll definitely plan to do a comparison video on my channel whenever I finally obtain the 2nd statue in hand. based on her profile, the seller whose making me the 2nd Fox McCloud statue went to the Stan Winston School Of Character Arts. so, as you can see, my hype for StarFox has been pretty high as of late due to so much going on in such a small period of time. ^-^

@@RewindArcade yeah, that was a rather impressive fan made game. it makes me actually want to invest money into getting an FXPak pro just to play it. it really does feel like the StarFox 3 we never got. I will definitely keep you informed whenever I manage to get the comparison video out. I still have the 1st statue on my shelf, but I try to take extreme care with it since it had to be fixed directly by the seller earlier. it will definitely take a while since I have yet to send the seller payment, which I promised would be near the end of this month. but, we have been in talks and she is willing to make me a 2nd statue with the different paint scheme in mind. I had to dig up a lot of reference photos of the actual physical puppet which is the desired intentions for the 2nd statue. afterwards, the next custom made item I have my eyes on will definitely be the SNES Arwing itself, which I've desired for such a long time. the original SNES StarFox is still my most favorite game of all time. the fact that this game is still cherished after all these years is a testament to how timeless that original game has become. ^-^

@@RewindArcade I actually have the final beta version of StarFox 2 as a repro cart with a custom label (which I've edited myself and sent to a seller as a request), which I plan to get the final released version also as a repro cart with a more refined custom label. I love StarFox 2 quite a lot, far more than Star Fox 64 to be honest, I still prefer the original SNES game the most. while I still like SF64 quite a lot, I prefer the more sci-fi heavy tone & style of the original SNES game plus the music has never been as good. I also blame SF64 for the series not being able to move past that art style and the comedic tone that would affect some of the later game's quality. the original has a lot of charm and simplicity to it that I think has help up better compared to the original, plus those realistic puppets that they've used just screams Jim Hensen. I still think that a Jim Hensen style StarFox film would of been awesome, especially if they used both puppetry & model ships similar to Star Wars. thanks to films such as The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and the original 2 TMNT films, using puppetry for story telling has been proven successful. thanks to TV shows such as The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, I honestly think that it would be far more impressive to make a StarFox film in that art style rather than CGI which has been done to death.
